28 – A personal defeat

Vittoria let out an exasperated sigh, turning her face away, desperate to escape the damnable pull that Vincenzo radiated.

Her lips pressed into a thin line, her steps heavy, almost dragging, as if every movement beside him was a personal defeat.

“I should’ve pulled the trigger,” she whispered, a dark smile playing on her lips, as if savoring the memory of a missed chance.

“A chance you won’t get again,” Vincenzo shot back, a slow, sinful smile curling his lips. “Because, let’s be honest, bella, you’d rather feel the fire I ignite in every damn inch of your body than the pain of imagining me dead.”

Vincenzo released her fingers with deliberate ease, as if relishing the taunt before it even landed.

His hand slid along her side, warm, firm, tracing a path as if carving his name into her skin.

“Don’t touch me,” Vittoria snapped, her tone sharp, as if every curve of her body screamed that he no longer had permission to cross that line.

But of course, he didn’t listen.

Vincenzo’s gaze fell on Tommaso, heavy with demand and suspicion. No words were needed; the question hung clear in the tense silence between them: who was this woman?“You look confused, Vincenzo!”His name slipped from her lips with a familiarity that shouldn’t exist, too intimate for a stranger, too bold for someone who had no business being there.“Should I know you?” Vincenzo asked, lowering his gun with a slow, deliberate motion, his body still taut with alertness.“Antonella Mancini,” she introduced herself, with a slight tilt of her chin and fingers gliding through her long blonde hair, each gesture part of a silent performance. Then, with graceful poise, she turned her face, her eyes locked onto Tommaso with a serenity that commanded more than any shouted order.“Tommaso, why don’t you leave us alone?” Antonella asked, her tone was not a request but a subtle decree.“Miss Mancini,” Vincenzo began, his voice steady, carrying the weight of a man who didn’t need to raise it to in

Vittoria’s expression crumbled the moment Vincenzo’s words hit her ears. The heat that had flushed her face vanished, replaced by a sudden pallor. Her eyes widened, and instinctively, she took a step back, as if the slight movement could shield her from the intensity of the man before her.“How?” Vittoria whispered, almost voiceless, her gaze locked on him, searching for any crack in Vincenzo’s armor. But in the next second, she realized her mistake. Showing fear in front of him was like bleeding before a predator. She stepped forward, lifted her chin, and held her stance firm, even as everything inside her threatened to collapse.“You’re a bastard, Vincenzo,” she snapped, her voice sharp, each word a shard flung with precision. “Just minutes ago, your face was between my legs…”“Yes, it was,” he cut in, his voice dripping with contempt, his eyes burning with restrained fury. “After all, that’s one place I know those filthy lips of his never touched. Because if he’d dared go that far,

Vincenzo’s smile unfurled at her words, slow and almost lazy, spreading from his lips to his eyes with a razor-sharp confidence. There was something insolent in that gesture, something that provoked and commanded all at once.It was the kind of smile that set Vittoria’s blood ablaze—not just with anger. Because, as much as she loathed to admit it, that damned smile pulled her in.It infuriated her with its arrogance, its certainty, the way it read her and prodded her, knowing exactly how to strike without even lifting a finger.“Hate?” Vincenzo questioned, his hands gripping her waist firmly, drawing her closer until no space remained between them. “Interesting,” he drawled, unhurried, as if savoring the taunt. “Let’s see what your body has to say about all that hate.”Without waiting for her reaction, his hands roamed her body with a bold, teasing touch, as if he knew every curve with the intimacy of someone who’d claimed her before yet still craved her like it was the first time.Hi

The command echoed through the room like an undeniable decree, sending an involuntary shiver down Vittoria’s spine. She didn’t need to open her eyes to recognize that deep, resolute voice, as commanding as the man himself.Still, with trembling fingers, she slowly lowered her hands from her face. Her heart raced, wildly out of sync, the moment her eyes locked with Vincenzo’s.There was something in his steely, unyielding gaze that threw her completely off balance.“Don’t dawdle,” Vincenzo said, tossing a package onto the bed with deliberate force, his voice restrained but betraying the tension of someone fighting to keep their irritation in check.“Who do you think you are?” Vittoria snapped, springing from the bed as if each of his words reopened an old wound. “How dare you speak to me like that after everything you’ve put me through?”“What I put you through?” he echoed, tilting his head slightly, his eyes boring into her as if dissecting her every thought.A crooked smile curled hi

Tommaso forced a tight smile, trying to mask his unease as his fingers fidgeted across the phone screen.“Tell me what’s going on, Tommaso. Don’t you dare hide anything from me,” Vincenzo ordered, his voice sharp, impatience burning in every line of his face.Vincenzo stood again, this time with more controlled movements. He braced himself against the bed’s edge to keep his balance, forcing his body to adapt despite the weakness still gnawing at him.“Vittoria,” Tommaso muttered, extending the phone toward his cousin, his expression taut. The moment Vincenzo’s eyes landed on the photo, his jaw clenched so tightly it seemed every muscle in his face reacted to the blow.Tension rippled through his body in silent waves, his fingers gripping the phone so tightly that it was as if he wanted to shatter the image with his bare hands.“Where’s my stuff?” he demanded, anger clear in his tone as he referred to his belongings.“What are you planning?” Tommaso asked, eyes locked on him, watching
