I glanced at the tattered book cover of my favorite novel and tossed it into Violet's beach bag with a towel, a bottle of water and my SPF 50 for my tanned skin. It was a hundred degrees—about right for this beautiful place, and I was enjoying this vacation with Violet.

The sun was dimming to sunset, the water was flowing in rapids to the shore voluminously as the birds chirped in a song through the sky.
