Simone waved at Ryder, an awkward smile on her face, before following William into his office. The moment she entered it, William trapped her against the door, with both hands resting on each side of her face.

Her breath hitched, and her eyes bulged, unwilling to believe that William would do such a thing, particularly to her.

“Are you trying to drive me crazy?” He asked gruffly, his eyes narrowed.

She shook her head no vehemently as words failed her. Her heart tried to beat its way out of her chest, but she tried to keep her breathing under control.

“Do you even know what you did?” He went on, and she shook her head negatively again. “You’re letting him think he stands a chance.”

Had the circumstances been different, Simone would have tried to taunt him, and tell him that Ryder was a perfectly sweet suitor… But as it was, she could barely keep herself from inhaling his cologne. And it was all she could manage to look William in the eyes already. If he were to touch her, she would be a goner, and she knew it.

His right hand soon brushed against her cheeks, as his eyes softened.

“Why are you crying?” He asked in a soft tone of voice, making her realize the dam had indeed broken.

“I don’t know,” she told him as she bent her head, so he wouldn’t have to see her tears.

William, however, was having none of that, and he soon lifted her chin up, “You do know, but you don’t want to tell me.”

“I don’t want you to be angry at me,” she let out in a hushed tone of voice after a beat.

“I am not angry at you,” he deadpanned. “I am jealous. I want your eyes to only see me…”

His words were more than she could handle, and she soon placed a finger over his lips. She refused to cling onto hope that there might be a chance for them to be together. He couldn’t mean that, not the way she wanted him to anyway.

“We can’t,” she shook her head negatively. It almost seemed like that was all she could do at that moment. “We can’t.”

“Why not?” He challenged, an eyebrow rising in question.

“We’re family,” she told him in a hushed tone, even if the words hurt her more than they would probably hurt him. “What would society think of us, of you? You’ve worked so hard to get where you are now. I don’t want to be the reason for your downfall.”

He grunted, as his eyes became even more tender, “And I am ready to lose it all, as long as I don’t lose you.”

“You will never lose me,” she assured him with a watery smile. “I am your stepsister.”

“In name only,” he insisted, rolling his eyes. “We never cohabited together, and we are not blood related.”

“Please, William,” she implored him as more tears fell down her cheeks.

“Please what?” He taunted in a suggestive manner. “Please take me or please leave me alone?”

Simone could never see herself telling him that. She didn’t want to be alone, but she didn’t want to ruin him either.

Her mouth opened, ready as she was to say something else entirely, and try to reason with him, when his mouth descended on hers… and she couldn’t argue any longer at that point. Her eyes closed as she relished the kiss she had longed for. She moaned against his devouring mouth, and clung to him like a desperate and wanton woman.

His tongue explored her mouth at leisure, his teeth nibbled on her bottom lip, and she allowed it all to happen, too far gone to do anything but feel.

She faintly heard the click of the lock, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. He was playing out her every fantasy right then… She had no business worrying about anything but the man making her feel like a needy teenager.

William was taking his sweet time with her, and Simone had no objection to that. When his hands lifted her up by the waist, for better access no doubt, she opened her legs, and encircled his waist. Soon, she began to rub herself against the evidence of his desire, desperate for him, and wishing there was no barrier between them.

“For a woman bent on rejecting me, you sure are yielding to me beautifully,” he soon declared as he broke the kiss for a few seconds.

Simone blushed a furious crimson, and didn’t dare to meet his eyes, as her tongue darted to lick her lips. She wanted to tell him that she couldn’t possibly resist him when he was that intense.

“Stop giving me the come-hither looks, woman, unless you want me to take you right here, right now,” he all but growled the words out at her, his chocolate brown eyes tender but oh so lustful at the same time.

“William,” she mewled his name, even as she bit her bottom lip, his words making her almost delirious with need.

“We belong together, Simone,” he said hotly before capturing her lips again.

She didn’t have it in her to argue, not when he was kissing her so passionately, not when the world revolved around this man whispering sweet nothings to her.

And then, just as he was seemingly ready to deepen the kiss, there was an audible ding, that indicated the arrival of someone to the floor.

William broke the kiss, but didn’t stop there, even as her eyes bulged. Instead, he kissed down her neck and sucked, making Simone unable to think properly.

“William,” she let out in a panicked voice.

“You’re making me crazy,” he licked at the spot he had just sucked, seemingly intent on making her feel him for the hours to come.

“Someone just came,” she said in a hushed voice.

“I know,” he deadpanned. “But you come first. Always.”

That was the best kind of innuendo… or possibly the worst, for it made her wish she would never have to part ways from him.

  • The Love of a Stepbrother    Chapter 7

It was 7:30 am, and William was in his office, already working on his laptop – or rather trying to work. He recalled the party and, most importantly, the kiss, and he felt like he could curse himself to the moon and back.He had been sober but different shades of jealous that evening, so much so that he could barely control himself… but it was too soon. He knew it and could feel it in his bones. Simone didn’t know the depth of his feelings for her, and would probably try to dismiss it all some way.He had seen the looks she gave Laura, and it was like his own version of salvation. But busy as she was glaring at his date, she had been oblivious to the anger simmering just behind the surface. It was his first time seeing her with someone after her prom date. And lo and behold, the man didn’t look fazed by his cold demeanor, whether it be out of carelessness or confidence, he didn’t know… But then again, he was the ruthless boss many whispered about, at least behind his back. He wasn’t e

The following morning, Simone woke up with a pounding headache. She had been tipsy the night before, not wasted, so it wasn’t exactly a hangover. The issue was that she had kept thinking about William, about their kiss, and everything that could follow said kiss… And sleep had thus evaded her until it was almost 4 am.Thankfully, it was Saturday, and she didn’t have to go to work. Hell, if possible, she would rather avoid work and stay home for a week, but that wasn’t an option. Come Monday, she would have to go back.Long gone was her bravado from last night, when she thought she wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. She now had one sole excuse to give William, and she could already picture herself as she told him that it was a mistake, that she had been drunk. She remembered the texts that had followed the kiss, and a small smile broke onto her face despite her earlier resolutions, making her tiredness fade away slightly.Naturally, the coffee she was drinking helped her greatly

  • The Love of a Stepbrother    Chapter 5

Simone wouldn’t need to be paid in gold to help the mouthy Laura shut up. She could picture herself pouring wine over the blonde, red wine preferably, but had to restrain herself and put a commercial smile on all through the evening. She learnt from the overly talkative woman that she was a model, a well-paid one… Simone had to repress a yawn more than a couple of times. She didn’t know how William could put up with the woman. But then again, he was a man, a man with needs, and she couldn’t expect him to remain celibate.Hell, this was surprisingly her first time seeing him with someone, and that in itself was more than she could hope for.In this day and age, finding a faithful partner was hard enough, never mind finding someone who never indulged in the pleasures of the flesh. In her ire, and out of rampant jealousy, Simone didn’t pay attention to her alcohol intake. Soon, she asked to be excused from the small gathering of officials amidst the party, needing to use the restroom to

Upon getting hired, Simone knew that she was playing with fire. She also knew that her feelings, which seemed ever-growing, might get discovered. But she never expected the workload to be as insane as it was.She barely had time to breathe during the day – that thankfully helped chase away her daydreams – and would each day go home too tired to do anything but eat and sleep.Soon, it was the end of the second quarter, and there was a party to be thrown – which naturally needed her supervision. She needed to learn many names but also had to make sure everything would be on point. She was busy with a couple of documents when William called her in. She left them on her desk and went to his office at once.“How are the preparations going?” He soon asked, his deep chocolate brown eyes looking right into her soul.“Everything should be ready for tomorrow evening,” she assured him without delay, a little bit of a proud smile stretching her lips. She appreciated how he slowly eased her into t

Simone was almost in tears. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have landed a job so last minute, and at William’s company no less. But it still didn’t solve her rent issue. She thought hard before giving her landlady a call. The elderly woman picked up soon, and greeted her amicably, “Hello Simone, how have you been?”“I have been better to be honest,” she retorted without missing a beat, preparing to tell her she needed to have the deadline extended. She was hopeful for she usually never missed.“Yes… that, I believe. I am sorry I couldn’t attend the funeral, sweetheart. My deepest condolences,” old Mrs Atkins’ response made tears fill her eyes for they had the knack to open back her wound.Simone wouldn’t dare to cry though, not right then. She got her sh*it together within a few seconds before saying, without so much as a sniffle, “Thank you. I called to tell you I will be late in paying the rent this month. I am truly sorry, but I will do my best to pay you in about 2 weeks
