Damien's POV

Blood on the stone under my boots. I got there before her head hit the floor, just barely. Somebody shouted behind me. Too late to matter.

Her skin burned against my hands, hot enough it stung. I got her into the crook of my arm. She weighed almost nothing. The air kept pressing down around us, worse by the second, like something was leaking out of her into the room.

The weaker wolves around us folded where they stood, hands at their own throats, gasping at nothing anyone could s

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 081: HIDE AND SEEK ENDS IN PIECES

Sienna's POVPain came first, before anything else made sense. I knelt in the dirt, head down, unable to lift it. They circled me, waiting for something I couldn't name."Juvien."Nothing answered.Images flashed behind my eyes too fast to hold onto. A scream tore out of me before I understood I'd made the sound."Look." One of the wolves pointed. The others turned toward me at once."That mark. It looks like a curse.""Don't get close to her." Another voice, thin. "I don't like the way it's glowing."I looked down at my arm without meaning to. David's mark, the one that never faded, burned hot enough that the skin around it had gone red. I pressed my other hand over it, trying to push the heat down. I didn't know why it was burning, or why my body had carried me this far without asking first."She's getting weak. Get her. We don't have much time.""Are you certain? Look at that mark. What if it's a trap?""Everything out here is a trap. Get her now."Six of them stepped in at once, t

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 080: LAUGHING IN BLOOD

Sienna's POVAngela's weight dragged against my side, her head lolling with every step. I got one arm under hers and pushed off a tree trunk, legs shaking, and made it halfway upright before my knees buckled again.Who had tried to kill me? Where had she gone? Why had she screamed Lydia's name like it was the last word she'd ever say?I didn't have answers. I had a forest, a body I couldn't quite carry, and blood already drying stiff down my leg."Angela." Her head rolled against my shoulder, eyes half open, unfocused. "Stay with me. Please."I started walking anyway, because standing still felt worse. The trees thickened. Birds called somewhere far off, indifferent to any of it. Cold worked into my chest through the duvet, and I stopped once to catch my breath, sweat cooling fast on skin that shouldn't have been sweating in this weather at all.Lydia. The woman had screamed that name like the sound of it alone had been enough to send her flying. What did that mean? I didn't know. I w

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 079: THE POLITE KIND

Sienna's POVI hadn't slept in days. Every hour I lay there the same thoughts came back around. Was tonight the night? Could I trust what Angela told me, or was I about to chase something into the forest that wasn't even real? What if it went wrong out there? What if she'd lied to me?I needed to decide before I lost my nerve.I checked the clock. Past midnight. Everyone asleep.I sat up and crossed the room. Lydia lay in the corner bed, one arm over her face. Angela curled near the door, breathing even."I won't leave either of you," I said, quiet, mostly for myself. I pulled a duvet off the hook and stepped outside.Cold hit me the second the door shut. I wrapped the duvet tighter and stood there, breath fogging in the dark. Then I saw him.Damien, walking toward me out of the trees. A faint light sat around him, like something had been lit under his skin.My chest went tight before I understood what I was even looking at."Damien?" His name broke coming out of me.He kept walking,

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 078: NOBODY WARNED ME ABOUT THE LEAF

Damien's POVWho the hell were they.My stomach hadn't stopped aching since the bond snapped. I filed it under things to deal with later, same shelf as the two strangers now closing on me.I tightened my grip on the sword as two figures stepped out of the dark. Black and red cloaks. Faces covered. Something rolled off them that wasn't wolf, wasn't Alpha, wasn't anything my wolf had a name for.Helen didn't seem bothered by any of it. Our eyes met for half a second, and then she threw another leaf at me.Wind gathered around this one as it cut across the clearing, faster than the last. I held my ground. I wasn't going to flinch in front of a woman with a handful of leaves and two strangers who hadn't said a word yet."I'm an Alpha," I muttered to myself, twice, until it started sounding true again. The leaf stopped an inch from my face and hung there, edges twitching like it was listening for something I couldn't hear, standing guard instead of attacking.I had no idea what that meant.

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 077: THE BOND HAS DIED

Damien's POVBlood ran down my jaw from a cut too clean for a blade. A single leaf had done it, drifting past my cheek and opening the skin like paper. I didn't understand how, and I didn't have time to work it out.She sat above me on a low branch, legs swinging, turning another leaf between two fingers like she'd already forgotten the first one had drawn blood at all.I healed the cut walking toward her, slow, watching the pink of her dress catch against the snow. Her expression gave nothing away. Then it hit.Pain tore through my skull. My knees found the ground before I decided to let them. Blood came up in my mouth. My vision split red and green, bleeding into each other until neither made sense, and my sword hit the dirt hard enough to crack it."Argh."What's happening to me?You've taken in too much, my wolf said. Her voice arrived before my vision cleared, and the pain doubled the second I heard it."Little wolf." Soft, almost fond, the tone of someone speaking to something s

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    CHAPTER 076: ASH ON THE CAKE

Sienna's POVAngela set the tray down without a sound, but the smell of broth still found me anyway."You haven't eaten in two days."I didn't answer. I was looking at the chair across the room, the one nobody had sat in since we got here, and thinking about a conversation that had nothing to do with any of this.Damien had once told me he'd rather starve than eat my cooking again after I burned an entire pot of stew trying to impress him. I'd thrown a spoon at him for it. He caught it without looking, the same way he caught everything, like the world simply handed him whatever he reached for."If I die," he'd said, "at least it won't be by your hand."I'd told him that wasn't funny. He said it again anyway, slower, watching my face the whole time to see if I'd break first. I did. I always did with him.I laughed out loud before I could stop myself, and then the laugh broke apart into something else halfway through, and I pressed both hands over my mouth like that would put it back to

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    Chapter 002

Sienna's POV The air hit me first. Clinical and sharp, thick with the industrial rot of bleach and old iron. I tried to drag oxygen into my lungs but my chest was pinned under an invisible weight, my body heavy, my eyelids rusted shut by dried salt. I tried to shift. A loud clang echoed through t

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    Chapter 001

Sienna's POV Today was my Luna coronation. The Silver Fang Pack had waited months for it. I had waited longer. I stood on the balcony, looking at the thousands of wolves gathered in the courtyard below. Their torches burned in lines and clusters against the dark edge of the forest, the light catc

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    Chapter 007

Sienna's POV The air here didn't belong to the living, lacking the scent of damp moss or the metallic bite of the cellar to taste of ancient dust and ozone instead, like the heavy, electric stillness right before a mountain storm breaks. I choked on the thickness of it, my lungs burning as they str

  • The Luna He Rejected Is The Millennium Wolf    Chapter 006

Damien's POV Ceremony torches flickered against the night sky while smoke tightened my chest, the heat of it thick and bitter. Three years of searching for a missing piece of my soul, yet every she-wolf the council trotted out remained a hollow imitation of what I needed. Near the entrance, Kael s
