CHAPTER 109

Layla's POV

The shove was brutal, sending me stumbling forward onto the cold, damp stone of the dungeon floor. I caught myself on my hands and knees, the impact jarring my bones, the stench of mildew and despair filling my lungs.

Behind me, Clara cried out as she was thrown in with less care, landing in a heap beside me. The heavy iron door slammed shut with a deafening clang, the sound of the bolt sliding home echoing like a death sentence.

Two guards remained inside the cell with us, their silhouettes stark against the flickering torchlight from the corridor. Their shadows danced on the walls like monstrous puppets.

“Get up,” one of them growled, his voice a low rumble. He nudged my shoulder with the toe of his boot. I pushed myself up, pulling a trembling Clara to her feet behind me, shielding her with my body. Her fingers dug into my arm, her fear a palpable thing coiling in the small space.

“Strip them of any valuables,” the first guard ordered his partner. “The Alph

CHAPTER 115Layla's POVMy fingers, slick with a mixture of sweat and grime, trembled as they hovered over the Lunaria bracelet. The cold silver seemed to mock me, a beautiful cage for the monster coiled within my soul. Around us, the metallic tang of drawn steel filled the ravine. Dozens of Evergreen soldiers, men I once might have passed in the training yards, held their positions, their faces grim masks of duty. Their hounds snarled, straining at their leashes, their eyes fixed on Clara, who stood steadfastly at my back.Protect her. That was the only thought that cut through the roaring panic. I could feel the Death Goddess stirring, a hungry whisper against the bars of her celestial prison, sensing my desperation. She promised power. She promised survival. All I had to do was unlatch the door.My thumb found the clasp. I pressed down.“Don’t do it, Layla,” Clara whispered, her voice tight with fear. “Please.”“I have to,” I breathed, the words tasting like ash. “I won’t let them

CHAPTER 114Layla's POVI collapsed forward, my knees hitting the damp forest floor with a thud. My hands, my real hands, flew to my face, feeling the familiar contours of my cheeks, my nose, my lips. The coppery tang of blood was thick on my tongue, a gruesome reminder of what these hands had just done. What she had done, using me as a puppet.“My Queen.”Clara’s voice was a lifeline. I looked up, my vision swimming, and saw her kneeling in front of me, her face pale with fear but her eyes steady. Her hand was still near my wrist, the one that had snapped the bracelet back into place.“Clara,” I croaked, my throat raw. The words felt heavy, inadequate. “Thank you. You… you saved me.”“Always, Layla,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. She helped me to my feet, her arm a sturdy support around my waist as my legs trembled, threatening to give out. The world felt unsteady, tilted on its axis. The faint, ethereal whisper of the Moon Goddess, the one who had praised my ‘mission

CHAPTER 113Daven's POVA groan tore from my throat, a ragged, guttural sound that was half pain and half fury. My shoulder screamed where it had connected with the stone wall. The impact had been immense, a force that had no right coming from a woman of Layla’s size. For a moment, the world was a dizzying smear of grey stone and flickering torchlight. My head swam. I was an Alpha. I didn’t get thrown around like a child’s toy. Then, the familiar, potent warmth of my own healing surged through me. It was a dull thrum at first, then a hot, knitting fire. I felt the dislocated joint in my shoulder grind, pop, and reseat itself with a sickening wet crunch. The pain receded, replaced by a deep, aching throb and the tingling sensation of regenerating tissue. I pushed myself up onto one elbow, my breath coming in harsh pants. The dungeon air was thick, cloying with the coppery tang of blood. So much blood. My gaze swept the chamber, and the air froze in my lungs. It was a charnel house. M

CHAPTER 112Derek's POVThe name hung in the air between us, a catalyst that shattered the man’s composure into a thousand jagged pieces. The dismissive calm he’d worn like a second skin evaporated, replaced by a raw, visceral shock that widened his piercing blue eyes. Dread, cold and absolute, chased the surprise across his face. He stared at me, not as a challenger or a nuisance, but as if I were a ghost bearing tidings from a world he had long since buried.“Saraphina,” he breathed, the name a ragged whisper torn from his throat. “She sent you? To stop the uprising?”I nodded, my body aching from our fight, my breath still coming in short, sharp bursts. “She did. She said the fate of all packs depends on it. That I had to reach Snowrest.”He took a half-step back, his gaze sweeping over me, reassessing everything he thought he knew. The warrior’s stance melted away, replaced by an urgency that crackled in the frozen air. He looked past me, toward the treacherous path I had yet t

CHAPTER 111Derek's POVThe black void below swallowed me whole, then spat me out, not into the crushing embrace of stone, but into a desperate, tangled suspension. My eyes fluttered open, refusing to adjust to the oppressive darkness that still clung to the air around me. It was night, certainly; a deeper, more profound darkness than the brief, blinding white of the blizzard that had swallowed me. A throbbing ache pulsed behind my temples, a dull counterpoint to the sharp sting that spread across my ribs.I was caught, suspended, some grotesque marionette dangling from invisible strings. A thick, coarse fabric – netting, I realized, or some kind of tattered camouflage – had snagged around my left arm and shoulder, holding me in a precarious, dizzying freefall. My legs dangled uselessly, my boottips brushing against empty air. A gust of wind, still laced with the icy bite of the blizzard, swirled up from beneath me, carrying with it a chilling dampness that seeped into my bones.Pan

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 110

CHAPTER 110Layla's POVMy consciousness was a prisoner, shoved into a dark corner of my own mind. I was a spectator watching a gruesome play through my own eyes. My body, no longer mine, moved with a fluid brutality I had never known. The Goddess of Death wore my skin like a fine gown, and she was eager to dance. One of the guards, the one who had steadied himself after I’d first struck him, lunged forward with a roar, his short sword aimed for my heart. My arm her arm shot out, not to block, but to catch his wrist. The sound of bones crunching was sickeningly loud in the stone cell. It felt distant, like hearing a twig snap underwater. The guard screamed, a high, thin sound that was abruptly cut off as my other hand, open-palmed, slammed into his throat. He crumpled to the floor, gagging, his eyes wide with a terror that would be his last sight. No! Stop! I screamed in the confines of my skull, but my voice was a silent echo. My lips curled into a smirk I did not command. The oth
