LOGIN_Leah's POV_
Later that afternoon, while Tariq was outside tending to chores around the house, I found myself in the kitchen with Susan. I offered to help her prepare dinner, not wanting to sit around doing nothing when they had already done so much for me. “I can chop the vegetables,” I said and grabbed a knife from the counter. Susan smiled warmly at me. “Are you sure? You should be resting, Leah.” “I am sure,” I insisted. “I need something to keep my hands busy.” She didn’t argue with me after that, and soon enough, we were working side by side, preparing the meal. It felt... nice. There was a certain ease to being in Susan’s presence. No judgment, no pressure. Just warmth. I hadn’t realized how much I had missed this simple, domestic normalcy. It felt like... family. I was slicing carrots when Susan suddenly spoke up. “You’re a good girl, Leah. Your mother would be proud of you.” Her words took me by surprise. I hadn’t thought about my mother in such a long time, not like this, anyway. The memories of her were too painful. But hearing Susan talk about her now, it made something inside me stir. “I hope so,” I whispered. “I never knew she was... who she was.” “She loved you more than anything,” Susan said softly. “She gave up everything to protect you.” A lump formed in my throat, and I nodded. “Thank you for telling me that.” We worked in silence for a while after that, but it was a comfortable silence. I found myself smiling a little as I chopped the vegetables and watched Susan knead the dough for bread. There was something soothing about it all, something that made me feel like I belonged here, even if just for a little while. As the sun began to set, Tariq came back inside, his face flushed from the cool air outside. He glanced over at me, his gaze lingering just a little too long, and I felt a small flutter in my stomach. Was he looking at me that way on purpose? Or was I imagining things? We sat down to dinner together, the three of us at the small wooden table. The meal was simple but delicious—roast chicken, vegetables, and freshly baked bread. I hadn’t realized how hungry I was until I started eating, and for a while, the conversation was light, mostly between Susan and Tariq as they talked about the chores around the house and what needed to be done tomorrow. But as we ate, I noticed something strange. Every now and then, Tariq would catch my eye, a small smile playing on his lips. Once, when I reached for the bread, his hand brushed mine, lingering just a second too long. My heart raced, and I quickly looked away, my cheeks flushing. Was he... flirting with me? I wasn’t sure. He hadn’t said anything outright, but there was something in the way he looked at me, the way he smiled at me. It was subtle, but it was there. Or maybe I was imagining it. I had been through so much in the past few days—maybe my mind was just playing tricks on me. “Tariq, don’t tease her,” Susan said suddenly, her voice full of affection but with a hint of reprimand. “Leah has been through enough.” I blinked and looked up in surprise. Had he been teasing me? I hadn’t even noticed. Tariq just chuckled and gave his mother an innocent look. “I am not teasing her, Ma. I am just being friendly.” “Hmm,” Susan hummed. She was clearly unconvinced. She looked at me, her eyes softening. “Don’t mind him, dear. He has always been a bit of a flirt.” My heart skipped a beat at that, and I quickly looked down at my plate, trying to hide the blush creeping up my neck. Was that what this was? Flirting? Did Tariq... like me? But before I could dwell on it for too long, Susan’s voice broke through my thoughts. “You know,” she said, glancing at Tariq with a playful smile, “I keep telling my son that he needs to find his mate. He is getting older, and I am not getting any younger. I want to see some grandchildren before I am too old to enjoy them.” I froze, my heart suddenly pounding in my chest. Mate. Of course. Tariq hadn’t met his mate yet. That’s why he was single. That’s why he was still living here with his mother. I swallowed hard, trying to push down the strange wave of disappointment that rose up inside me. Of course, Tariq would find his mate someday. And when he did, he wouldn’t need me anymore. I was just... passing through. Tariq sighed and leaned back in his chair. “I know, Ma. Believe me, I know. But I am already twenty-nine, and I haven’t met her yet. Maybe the Moon Goddess hasn’t blessed me with a mate. Or maybe... I’ll have to take a chosen mate instead.” He said the words casually, but as he spoke, his eyes flickered to me, locking onto mine for just a moment too long. My heart stuttered in my chest. What was he trying to say? Was he implying something? Or was I just reading into it too much? I quickly looked away and focused on my plate. My mind was racing. Did Tariq... want me to be his chosen mate? No, that couldn’t be right. I was just an omega, a broken girl with no real future. He deserved better than that. Better than me. But still... the way he had looked at me. The way he had smiled at me. It made me wonder. “Don’t worry, Tariq,” Susan said with a soft laugh. “The Moon Goddess has a plan for everyone. I am sure that you will meet your mate when the time is right.” “I hope so,” Tariq said, his voice low. “But sometimes... I wonder.” There was a strange tension in the air after that, and I couldn’t help but feel like Tariq’s words were meant for me. But I couldn’t let myself believe it. He was just being kind, and I was just... confused. That was all. After dinner, I helped Susan clear the table, my thoughts still spinning. Tariq had been nothing but kind to me since I arrived, but now I wasn’t sure what to think. Was he just being nice, or was there something more? I found myself glancing at him as we worked, wondering what he was thinking. But every time our eyes met, my heart would race, and I would quickly look away. By the time we finished, I was more confused than ever._Leah’s POV_I woke up that morning with a strange feeling in my chest. It was not fear. It was not worry. It felt like I was forgetting something important but I could not remember what it was.Kayden was already awake. He was sitting on the edge of the bed. He was buttoning his shirt. When he noticed I was watching him, he smiled softly.“Good morning,” he said.“Good morning,” I replied. I was still studying him.He leaned down and kissed my forehead. His lips lingered a little longer than usual and I felt warmth spread through me.“You have meetings today?” I asked.“Yes. A few things to settle,” he answered but he did not look directly at me.Athena stirred inside me. He is hiding something.I frowned slightly. “You are acting strange.”“I am not,” he said quickly and that made me even more suspicious.“You are,” I insisted. “Your voice sounds tight.”He chuckled softly. “Maybe I am just tired.”“You do not get tired.”“I do when my Luna keeps me awake at night,” he teased.Heat
_Leah's POV_I never thought that I would be the jealous type. But I was wrong. It happened on a quiet afternoon. The sun was high. The pack house was calm. Reagan was outside playing with the other children. I was in the courtyard going over patrol reports when I felt it.There was a strange shift in the air.I noticed a scent which was sweet, floral and strong. It was not familiar. Athena stirred inside me. Someone new is here, she said softly.I looked up.A sleek black car rolled through the gates. The guards stepped aside quickly. Fred walked forward to greet whoever it was.A tall woman stepped out of the car.She was striking. Long dark hair flowed over her shoulders. Her posture was perfect. Her eyes were sharp and confident. She moved like someone who expected the world to make space for her.“Alpha Selene,” Fred greeted her.A female Alpha. So that explained the aura around her.I stood still as Kayden stepped out of the pack house. His presence was calm and commanding.
_Leah's POV_Seven years had passed since the day I stood in the Emerald pack hall and claimed my name.Seven years since two packs chose to stand together instead of apart. And that day, the courtyard was filled with laughter instead of whispers. It was Reagan’s fifth birthday.Green and silver banners hung proudly around the courtyard, moving gently in the breeze. Flowers were woven along the railings and wrapped around the wooden posts. Long tables were set with food and the scent of roasted meat and fresh bread filled the air. Children ran between the trees, laughing loudly as their voices carried through the open space.I stood near the center of it all and watched.I still did that sometimes.I watched and made sure everyone felt safe.“You are scanning the area again,” Athena said softly inside my mind.“I am not,” I replied.“You are,” she insisted. “But this time, you are not looking for danger. You are looking at what you built.”That made my chest warm.“Mommy!”Reagan’s vo
_Leah's POV_A few days after Kayden proposed, we stood in front of the Emerald Pack gates. My heart would not stay still. The gates were tall and made of dark wood and iron. The symbol of the Emerald Pack was carved into them; a wolf surrounded by vines and leaves. I had seen this symbol in dreams before I even knew what it meant. Now it stood in front of me.“This is it,” Kayden said quietly.I swallowed.“What if they don’t believe me?” I asked. “What if they think I’m lying?”Athena stirred inside me. They will feel it. Blood calls to blood.“I’m not sure that will be enough,” I whispered in my mind.Kayden turned to me. His eyes were calm but serious.“Leah,” he said softly, “if they try to send us away, you only need to show them your power.”I looked down at my hands.“Maybe they won’t accept me,” I said. “Maybe they won’t want the daughter of someone who disappeared.”Kayden stepped closer. He cupped my face gently.“I am with you,” he said. “No matter what happens, I am with
_Leah's POV_Kayden kept his promise.A few days passed after everything that happened in the temple. After the blood. After the dark magic. After the end of Tariq. The pack slowly returned to its normal rhythm. The air no longer felt heavy with fear. The nights were quieter. The shadows did not feel like they were hiding monsters anymore. And for the first time in a long while, I could breathe without feeling hunted. But tonight, none of that mattered.Tonight, it was just us.Kayden took my hand after dinner. His fingers wrapped around mine. They were warm and steady.“Come with me,” he said.“Where?” I asked. He only gave me a small crooked smile. “You’ll see.”Athena stirred inside me. His voice is full of excitement. This is dangerous.“Dangerous how?” I asked her.Dangerous for your heart, she said.I tried not to blush.Kayden led me outside. The night was clear. The moon hung high and bright. It was like a soft white coin in the sky. The air was cool and smelled like pine and
_Leah’s POV_At first there was only the dark.It felt heavy and soft at the same time. Like I was at the bottom of a deep lake. Then I felt something warm. It brushed against my cheek. It moved through my hair. Then I heard a low voice. “Leah… please… open your eyes. Please.”It was Kayden. My heart stirred.Athena’s voice came from very far away. Follow him. He is your way back.I tried. I pushed toward the warmth...toward the voice. And then the dark cracked.Light slipped in through the cracks. My chest hurt. My head throbbed. My fingers tingled.I dragged in a sharp breath. Air rushed into my lungs. I coughed hard.Familiar arms tightened around me at once. “Leah!” Kayden’s voice broke on my name. “Leah, look at me. Come on. Come back to me.”My eyelids felt heavy but I forced them open. The world swam into focus. The first thing I saw was his face.He was leaning over me. His eyes were wild and red-rimmed, his jaw was tight. There was dirt on his cheek and blood on his neck.
_Leah’s POV_I stayed very quiet. My hands were still tied. My feet were bound and my heart was thudding in my chest like it was going to burst. I didn’t know what to say. My mouth felt dry. My thoughts were spinning wildly.Athena was stirring inside me. She was tense but strangely calm. “He looks
_Leah’s POV_The day of the ball finally came, and my heart was beating faster than it ever had before. I kept telling myself that this was my one real chance. I had never been to the Duskfang pack before. Everything felt unfamiliar. That was exactly why I hoped it could help me disappear.I kept r

_Kayden's POV_I called for a pack meeting. Not tomorrow. Not later tonight.Now.Fred and Ray were already waiting outside my office. I gave them one look. “Bring her.”Fred nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”Ray cracked his knuckles. “If she tries to run..”“She won’t,” I said. “And if she does, break her leg
