_Leah’s POV_

The next morning, a soft knock woke me up. I shot upright in the bed, my hand instantly reaching for the gun I had kept on the nightstand beside me. My heart pounded as I stared at the door. I needed to be ready. What if it was someone who had bad intentions?

"Leah?" a familiar voice called. "It's Fred. Alpha Kayden asked me to wait for you downstairs. Breakfast is ready."

Fred. I let out a shaky breath and glanced around the room. Light was streaming through the window, soft and golden. It looked peaceful, but nothing felt peaceful inside me.

Athena stirred. "It’s okay. He doesn’t sound like a threat. But keep your guard up."

I got up from the bed and looked around for something I could use to strap the gun to my body. My eyes landed on a long silk scarf draped over a nearby chair. It must have been left there as part of the room’s decor, but it would do.

I tied the scarf around my waist and slipped the gun underneath it, positioning it against my lower back. Then I pul

_Leah’s POV_Fred rushed after Kayden, leaving me alone in the dining hall with Ray, the Gamma. The room suddenly felt cold despite the warm tea in my cup and the golden sunlight slipping through the windows. My heart was pounding, loud and wild. Tariq was here. He had come for me.Ray gave me a glance but didn’t speak. I sat frozen. Every second felt like an hour.Athena whispered, "Stay calm, Leah. Breathe. You have the gun. You are not powerless."My hand drifted to the scarf under my shirt. I could feel the hard metal tucked at my back. It was the only thing keeping me from bolting out of my seat.I wanted to run. I wanted to hide. But I forced myself to sit still.Minutes passed. Then footsteps echoed in the hallway. Kayden returned with Fred beside him.I looked up quickly. Kayden's expression was tight and serious."He is gone," Kayden said as he approached me. "Tariq came asking about you. He said you had disappeared. He believes you came here. He was... certain."My breath ca

_Leah’s POV_I sat in silence as the car moved through the dark forest. My hands were still tied and my feet still bound. My heart was beating so loudly in my chest that I thought Kayden could probably hear it. I kept my face turned to the window, trying to control my breaths, but my hands wouldn’t stop trembling.Athena stirred inside me. “Stay alert,” she whispered. “He might mean what he says, but we must be careful.”I nodded to myself, my gaze fixed outside. Trees passed like ghostly shapes, and my thoughts tangled themselves up like thorned vines. I kept seeing Tariq in my mind. He would be looking for me already. How would I hide? Going back to Blood Moon Pack was the last thing he would ever expect me to do. Maybe that was my only advantage. My heart gave a strange ache. Going back to this place that had caused me so much pain felt like stepping into my own nightmare. When the car finally pulled up at the gates of Blood Moon Pack, I felt my hands tighten into fists. Memories r

_Leah’s POV_I stayed very quiet. My hands were still tied. My feet were bound and my heart was thudding in my chest like it was going to burst. I didn’t know what to say. My mouth felt dry. My thoughts were spinning wildly.Athena was stirring inside me. She was tense but strangely calm. “He looks like he truly regrets it,” she whispered. And that scared me most of all.Kayden was apologizing to me? Kayden; the man who had rejected me, who had punished me, who had left me in a dark cell like I was nothing? It felt like I was dreaming. Could this be real? Or was this some new plan to trap me? My hands were trembling even though they were tied. And then I thought of Tariq. Tariq would surely be looking for me now. How would I escape him? Maybe Kayden was working with him. That thought made my heart pound even faster.“Is this a trick?” I asked Athena.“I don’t feel him lying,” she answered softly. “But we need to be careful. Even if he seems regretful.”I shifted in my seat. My eyes we

Even without seeing his face, I could recognize him by his scent and those deep gray eyes that looked at me so intensely. Kayden. My heart thudded wildly. What was he doing here?A part of me was scared, and another part of me was furious. Before I could speak, I felt his hand still over my mouth. My hands were trembling and I could feel my chest tightening. I tried to twist away but his grip was strong.I didn’t know who was worse between him and Tariq.Athena? I whispered in my mind. She was tense. “Stay sharp, Leah. He might mean you harm. Don’t let your guard down.”I nodded internally. And then I felt it; that horrible, familiar rage stirring inside me.I bit down on his palm, my teeth sinking into his flesh. He jerked his hand back and I gasped for breath.“Kayden, let me go!” I screamed. “Let me go, or you’ll pay for this!”Before I could do anything more, he grabbed my waist and hauled me off my f

  • The Luna Queen    Chapter 59

_Leah’s POV_The day of the ball finally came, and my heart was beating faster than it ever had before. I kept telling myself that this was my one real chance. I had never been to the Duskfang pack before. Everything felt unfamiliar. That was exactly why I hoped it could help me disappear.I kept repeating in my head that Tariq wouldn’t dare harm me, not until after we were married. That was my only comfort as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The red ballgown he picked for me fit perfectly. Too perfectly, like it was tailored for someone who was already his. The silky fabric felt soft against my skin, but it also felt like a cage.Athena’s voice whispered gently in my mind. “You look beautiful, Leah. But don’t lose focus.”I breathed in slowly. “I know. This might be my only chance.”My hands trembled as I brushed my hair and tied it back. “If we don’t escape tonight, Athena,” I thought, “I might never get another shot.”She answered firmly. “And we will escape. I will help yo
