Chapter 35 - Steamy hot springs

Though her muscles protested the climb to the packhouse that evening, it was the hum on her lips that lingered after the training session. Cassy ghosted her fingers across them, remembering the look in Jace’s eye, the delicate brush of his thumb and the way he had consumed her with his kiss. She had never felt like that before; her single focus becoming him, their bodies pressed together and yet still sinking deeper into his embrace. Heat stirred within her at the memory, followed by a flutter in her stomach. They were meeting at the hot springs to relax and heal after training but after the last time they were there and the kiss earlier, excitement curled through her at the thought of being alone with him.

Thoughts of the Alpha played in her mind until she stepped from the tunnels that led deep into the mountains from the packhouse to the hot springs. The pink hue of the room wrapped around her, drawing her into its sanctuary. The light in its cavern was dim, only a few of the lant

Time slowed to an almost stop, silencing the battle around her. Like always, she couldn’t move, so it wasn’t like she could slip free of the King’s hold and rush to help Logan, however she needed a minute. Panic was racing through her, sending her thoughts tumbling in all directions, but clarity was precious. As false seconds ticked by, she calmed, her mind cleared and she focused. William had threatened to kill Logan, provoking a fear in her that he’d die trying to save her. Yet, he was in no more danger now than when he had first rushed into save her. It seemed to please him, and gained her a few hours alone in Alex’s room to come to terms with what was happening. She left the room twice, looking for an opening in the three guards William had placed on her, but they didn’t allow an inch of time or space to escape.
