Avoiding them

Avianna's Point of View

Shit. Shit. Shit. Where do I go now? Why did I run away in the first place when I don't even have any place I know?

Well, it's too late to regret my choices. I already ran away and it is too far to come back. I don't think I'll also be able to return after the scene that my arrival caused.

Geez. It's just my first day and I already did that with just my entrance inside the cafeteria. What else is stored for me for this day? I hope not. My energy won't be able to cope up with that.

I halted on my track to catch my breath. I was holding my knees while doing so, unaware of where I am.

When I could finally breathe properly again, I stood straight to look at where I was. A familiar large door welcomed me.

The headmaster's office.

Should I tell him about what just happened?

How can I when I haven't even processed what just happened? But I think he should know, especially knowing that my parents entrusted me to him. I should be honest right?

"A penny for your thoughts, young lady?"

I shrieked in surprise, jumping a bit when  a voice emerged from behind me. I quickly turned around only to see the headmaster grinning at me.

"H-headmaster!" I exclaimed, fiddling with my fingers out of nervousness.

He narrowed his eyes at me, "what brings you here? Do you need something?"

"Uh..." I trailed off, not knowing what exactly to say.

Should I really tell him?

"It seems like you have something to say but you don't know how to start. Do you want to get inside and talk it out?"

"Do you have time?" I asked.

He smiled, "Of course."

So here I am inside his room, sitting across from him with a small table between us and a juice placed in front of me.

"So would you mind telling me what made you come here?" The headmaster asked.

I took a sip on the juice first before I finally answered, "Uhm... you see, I... met my mate."

He suddenly squealed like a teenage girl. He looked genuinely happy and excited as he leaned forward a bit, "Really? Where? When? How?"

"A while ago. I got hungry while roaming around and so I decided to eat at the cafeteria," I swallowed the lump on my throat before I continued, "then... then there's this specific scent that hits my nose hard. Among all the scents inside, it was all I could smell."

"Oh? So what's wrong then?"

I stared directly into his eyes, "Is it possible to have two mates, headmaster?" I asked.

His eyes widened, "W-what— you have two mates?!"

I nervously nodded, "is it bad?"

He was speechless for a good one minute, just staring at him with mouth agape in surprise.

"No... not really. It depends on the situation," he responded.

"Is it rare?"

"It is. They called it 'twin mates'."

"S-so I have mates that are twins?"

He chuckled, "not the literal twins. It was just a term."

I nodded in understanding, "what should I do, headmaster?"

"What do you mean what should you do? Go on and meet them!"

"But it wasn't my plan to meet them! I only went here to finish my highschool in peace," I said.

"Sweetie, you know that your plans are nothing when the Moon Goddess decides your fate, right?" He said. "And don't your parents want you to tell them once you meet your mate?"

I sighed, "I know, but I'm not really interested in being a Luna at this age."

"You also know it's inevitable, right?"

I groaned in frustration, earning a laugh from the headmaster.

"Sweetie, you're overthinking too much. You will be their Luna, but not while you're this young. You are just set to be one," the headmaster said.

"But if my... my..." I swallowed nervously. "If they're on different packs, how am I supposed to be a Luna? Do I get to choose?"

"That's for your Alphas to decide," he answered. I mentally cringed upon hearing him pertaining to them as my alphas. "But the best choice is for your Alphas to unite their pack."

"Gosh, I never expected to meet my mate here, then I have twins," I muttered.

"The Moon Goddess has a reason why She gave you twin mates," the headmaster stated.

I sighed, "I guess."

"What's your plan now?" He asked me.

I shrugged, "I don't want to meet them again. I'll avoid them as much as possible. It wouldn't be too hard I guess, since the campus is way too large."

"If that's what you want, I don't think I have any say on it," the headmaster nodded in understanding. "Oh, how come I forgot about it?" Then he stood up and went to one of his cabinets. He took out something that seemed like a key before he went back in front of me.

"Here's the key for your dorm. I'm sorry for the lack of welcoming I did but I didn't expect to have you here today. Your parents didn't give notice in advance so I don't have my secretary to assist you around."

"It's fine, headmaster. Don't worry. I might go to the cafeteria first since I'm still hungry," I said, flashing a smile to him.

He softly patted my shoulder, "Well then, good luck! I hope you hide well."

I chuckled at him.

As soon as I stepped out of the room, I heaved out a deep sigh.

I wanted to go to my dorm room and hide and rest, but my stomach keeps on rumbling, asking for attention. But what if they're still in the cafeteria? I'm serious when I said I didn't want to meet them, unlike my mother who was so eager for me to meet my mate.

She told me countless times to inform her when I do meet my mate... but how can I tell her I have twin mates? Geez.

Moon Goddess, why are you doing this to me? I'm fine being alone. I just wanted to finish my highschool here and get a diploma. How am I supposed to keep on avoiding my... them? I heard Alphas take pride in their egos. If they found out their soon-to-be Luna doesn't acknowledge them, wouldn't it be a big blow to them?

But what can I do? I don't really want myself to be a Luna, moreover for a two pack. I always wished I was just an Omega. But alas, I presented myself as a Luna.

As I made my way towards the cafeteria, I kept on looking around and smelling the air. I learned before that mates have a strong sense of smell towards their mate. So I'm assuming if they're nearby, I can immediately smell them especially now that they're scents were engraved in my mind and nose already.

Luckily, there's not many people inside the cafeteria, including... them. I sighed in relief as I made my way towards the counter to order some food. After that, I sat on the far corner of the room.

I let out a low groan upon tasting the food. It's delicious! Of course, it should be! This is one of the most prestigious institutes, anyway. Parents don't pay for their students' fees just to give low quality foods and facilities.

As I finished my food, I sat there for a few minutes to let the food digest. However, that same antsy feeling I felt earlier while going here resurfaced. My eyes widened as I anxiously looked around.

I could hear faint noises outside. Girls who were squealing because of something. It gets a bit louder as if it's nearing, at the same time the scent of sandalwood and peppermint gets stronger.

I abruptly stood up, at the same time two men entered the cafeteria. Without hesitating, I ran towards the kitchen area of the cafeteria. I heard yells from those men telling me to stop but I didn't pay them attention. I ignored their yells once again as I tried to find a way out of the cafeteria.

Luckily, there was a door that led outside. I sprinted in that direction, not minding if I just finished eating. As long as I avoid them, I don't care.

I ran mindlessly, not knowing where the girls' dormitory was.

Damn, what should I do?

I sighed in frustration. I'll just ask then.

I approached the first people I spotted. In one of the benches seated a girl and boy. They don't seem to be a couple, so I'll just assume they're close friends. I quickly ran to their direction which startled them both.

"Uh... sorry for disturbing but I'm a transferee here and I don't know the way so can you tell me where the girls dormitory is?"

"Woah, woah. Slow down! Catch your breath first!" The boy told me.

I shook my head, "I have no time. Someone's coming at my back and I'm trying to avoid them as much as possible."

"Is that so?" The girl muttered. "What's your room number?"

I took out the key from my pocket and read the number out loud, "017."

The girl's eyes widened, "Really? What a fate! We're roommates!"

"Really?!" I exclaimed out loud. "Can you show me the way please?"

"Sure, sure. I'll accompany you there," she said then she turned towards the boy. "Let's just meet later! Mirco wanted us to meet at the gymnasium at dinner and I heard Zen also planned to meet you guys later."

My heart pounded at the names they mentioned. Or maybe it's just because of running. So I just shrugged the weird feeling I'm having.

"Yeah, I heard he has something to announce," the boy said. He then turned to me and smiled. "Goodluck sharing with Marrah! She can be a bit too much sometimes."

"Stop spouting nonsense!" The girl, which I assumed is Marrah, said and smacked the boy's head, earning a pout from the latter. I chuckled at their interaction.

"Let's go, roomie!" Marrah exclaimed and pulled me away.

She led me towards a huge building. As in huge, way bigger than the rest of the buildings. She was the one who pulled me towards the second floor where our room is. As soon as I stepped inside, I could only mutter a low 'wow'.

It was... spacious. Two queen size beds, two walk-in closets, two study-tables, a mini-fridge on the side and another door which I assumed is the comfort room.

The interior design was a shade of rose quartz and serenity. A beautiful pair of colors aesthetically mixed together.

"It's pretty, right?" Marrah asked me. I nodded, still in awe. She giggled. "I chose this color."

"It's beautiful in the eyes," I muttered. Then when I glanced around once again, I saw my things placed at the side of one of the beds.

"And oh! Your things were brought here earlier by the headmaster himself."

The headmaster brought it by himself? How embarrassing. He should've just told me.

"Have you looked around the campus?" She asked me as she sat on the bed opposite of where my things are.

I nodded, "I roamed around alone earlier."

"Then I bet you also heard that short scene that happened earlier at the cafeteria? I heard it everywhere I go."

I paled at the mention of that. I'm pretty sure she's pertaining to that incident that I have in mind.

"W-what scene?" I nervously asked.

She smiled brightly, "They said two of the top Alphas here had met their mate earlier at the cafeteria!"

Top Alphas?

I swallowed the lump on my throat as I faked a laugh, "R-really? That's great then."

"It is, but you know what's more interesting than the fact that the top competing Alphas met their mates?"

"What?"

"They have the same mate."

Fuck.

She was talking to the headmaster about being a Luna and having Alpha twin mates, but until her room-mate says this at the end of the second chapter how does she know her mates are Alphas? She didn’t hang around long enough in the cafeteria to find out their names or rank
