He comes in.

I step back to let him through and he stops just inside the door. Looks at the room. At the lamp I left on. At the chair I have been sitting in for the last hour, not sleeping, not reading, just waiting without admitting I was waiting.

He looks at me last.

"I owe you an apology," he says.
