Claiming Ground

Lyra’s POV

“You must be out of your mind, Damon, if you think you can come here, disrupt my life, flip it upside down in a matter of hours, and I’ll just listen to you.”

I don’t need a scholar to explain what Damon just did. I know exactly what it means. But if I let him walk all over me like this, I’d be showing weakness—and that’s the last thing I’ll do.

“Don’t you see what’s happening, Lyra? Don’t you see? Need a reminder?” He pointed sharply to the phone he’d handed one of his men, then back at me.

“I’m the Alpha now. I reign over you and your family.”

He emphasized it like a predator marking territory.

“I’m in charge. Accept it. You belong to me now.”

Oh, the son of a bitch.

“Fuck you! I don’t belong to anyone. Especially not you!” I screamed, fury burning across my face.

I know I should stay quiet—play along, keep everyone safe, plan my next move. But I can’t. I won’t let him claim me after everything he put me through—rejecting me, mocking me. He can go back to his whore. The whore who was better than me. The whore he chose over me.

“What did you say, little wolf?” His voice dropped an octave, furious.

“Repeat.”

Everything I thought I knew about Damon has changed. Every last shred of kindness or compassion is gone. Five years have reshaped him—body and soul.

I hate to admit it, but he’s even more damn attractive than the last time I saw him.

He stepped closer, finger tracing my chin as he lifted it slowly, forcing me to meet his gaze.

“Little wolf,” he tilted his head like a predator daring me. “What did you say?”

There was control in his voice now—barely. Like he was fighting his wolf for dominance. His eyes flickered between gold, ocean blue, and amber.

I guess his wolf doesn’t agree with his attitude. Well, neither do I.

We’re mates — a bond never severed. I hadn’t thought much about it before, but now, just inches apart, I feel his breath on my face.

“Answer me! Damn it!”

I knew the safe answer, the one that’d keep trouble at bay. But I couldn’t stop myself. I swallowed hard and said, “I don’t belong to you,” staring straight into his amber eyes. “You’ll never make me stay here against my will. You’re insane if you think that.”

In an instant, he pounced — predator’s instinct — and slammed me against the nearest wall. A gasp rippled through the room; every eye was on us.

He pinned my wrists with one hand, forcing them above my head. Pressing his weight into me, he growled, “You belong to me, little wolf. Remember that. I will hunt you from the depths of hell if you try to run or hide. And I will tear apart everyone you hold dear.”

I knew he wasn’t joking.

Hearing him call me “little wolf”—when I’ve always struggled to find my own—made me feel raw and exposed.

There’s no way I can fight this man, not here, not now. Any plan I have will take time, patience… and cunning.

I gave a small nod against his fingers, trying to pull my face away, but he held me firmly—no escape.

“I want the words, Lyra. Don’t test me.”

“I belong to you.” Motherfucker, watch where you catch me.

It was obvious from the start: he hated me like the rest. I was the plague, the unlucky one. He took my innocence and then spit hatred in my face.

Why does he even want me here? I’ve been fine on my own.

I was better off away from all this. Being back now floods me with all the reasons I left in the first place.

“Return to your room,” he said, releasing me, voice calmer as if he hadn’t just promised to make my life hell.

“I apologize for the rude welcome,” he added smoothly. “But while you’re here, you have my protection—and the pack’s. This is your home.”

Those words sounded so sweet. The fulfillment nearly overwhelmed me.

My home.

Except it never truly was.

All bullshit.

I never belonged here.

But of course, I said nothing. At least, not yet.

Damon’s POV

It’s crazy how she still gets under my skin. Even crazier that I’m letting it happen.

She left when I needed her most. She knew me better than anyone, yet she didn’t see the suffering I was drowning in.

She could have stayed.

“I want cameras planted in every corner of her room,” I ordered. “Kitchen, bedroom—everywhere. Except her bedroom, of course. That’ll wait until she throws herself at me.”

I know how bad the pack was for her before she left. I get how hard it’ll be for her to be back. That’s why I prepared rooms separated by a door only I can open.

Her own space. A little safety.

Ricco stayed silent, staring at me like I’d lost my mind. I get it. I’m acting like a maniac.

I made her leave. I forced her away. And now, I’m dragging her back—but I can’t show weakness. I’m Alpha. I’m in control.

I tell myself I just want to watch her. Protect her.

My wolf has gone quiet—he didn’t agree with my earlier actions. I fought hard to keep him from taking over. Because if he did, he’d go soft on her.

And that’s the last thing I need.

“Alpha, how many times do I have to report on her activities?” Ricco asked.

I looked at him. “You don’t report to me. Set the cameras to stream directly to my laptop. No one else gets access. Not even you. And I want it done within twenty-four hours.”

He didn’t question how. He knew it’d be hard to get Lyra out of her room so soon.

“Consider it done, Alpha.”

As he turned to leave, he looked back.

“You’ve gone crazy. I’ve never seen you let anything affect you this much since becoming Alpha. What’s she doing to you?”

I smiled darkly.

“Hell if I know.”

Hunger in His SilenceLyra’s POVHow had he found me so fast? And why did it look like his self-control was unraveling with every breath he took? He was staring at me, and I could see it all—anger, hunger, and something much darker blazing in his eyes.He had called me a slut. Said I was “begging to be fucked.” I could’ve laughed at the sheer absurdity of it, but it didn’t dull the sting in my chest. No, that still lingered.I had been having an actual conversation with the poor man before Kael stormed in and gave the guy more than he bargained for. Was Kael angry?I didn’t wait to ask. I moved to the dance floor. Unless he was ready to beat up every single man in the club, he couldn’t stop me.When I decided to go out tonight, my mind had immediately gone to this place—once called The Royale Club. It had changed, but the thrill still lingered in its neon-lit bones. As if the DJ had read my mind, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus blared through the speakers, and I locked eyes with anot

Kael’s POV"You couldn’t sleep last night either? Pills not working then?" Ricco asked beside me.I massaged my aching temple with two fingers and fixed my attention on the documents in front of me."Should I get the doctor to find you something stronger than what he prescribed?""Of course not. No one can know about this," I said coldly. "Don’t you think if the doctor finds out none of the drugs he’s given me have worked, he’ll run his mouth? To his wife, a colleague... anyone. I’ll just double the dosage. If this gets out, Ricco, I’ll have your head."I pulled my focus from the weakness clawing at me and looked down at the papers again."What are they suggesting?" I asked, pointing at the documents I had just dropped on the table.I’d already read them. I knew exactly what the council was pushing. He should have known that was his cue to change the subject."They want us to buy more land. To build our own supermarkets and hospitals.""More supermarkets and hospitals? Are they prepari

Fractured BoundariesLyra’s POV“I can’t believe he’d do this, Mama! He won’t even let me see you. He hasn’t changed. Not one bit—maybe worse. How did I ever fall in love with that bastard? I can’t believe I once felt butterflies for him.”I threw myself onto the bed, muscles trembling with frustration and fear as I spoke to my mother over the phone.I didn’t tell her about his threats—how he promised to hurt my parents if I didn’t obey. The sting of tears hovered just beneath my skin.“Come on, Lyra! Don’t show weakness in front of a man when you’re trying to prove a point. Don’t let him get to you. I’ll come visit if I have to—before this month is over,” I heard her say, her voice soft and soothing. I pictured her holding me close, whispering everything would be okay. One month? How could I tell her Damon wanted me tethered like a puppet for far longer?“I’ve tried so hard to run from this feeling. Just when I think I’m free, it crashes down on me again. He hates me so much he won’t

A Line in the SandDamon’s POVI was heading back from a run in the woods, trying to clear my head, when I saw her and her friend arrive in the yellow taxi — we hardly get those around here.My heart skipped a beat when I saw her look at me. She saw me. I was sure of it. But why did she suddenly look pale… and then relieved?“Your long-lost love has finally come to you, Alpha Damon,” my Beta, Ricco, muttered from behind me as I dried my hair, standing at the top-floor window, watching the hall I had prepared for our reunion. This whole exchange meeting was just a pretense.I had made it happen — all of it — because I wanted to see Lyra again. And I knew she wouldn’t come unless it was a matter of duty. Her parents were the key. She just needed a little push.I turned slowly to regard Ricco, letting just enough menace show in my eyes to remind him where he stood. He’d been loyal for four years, but if he ever spoke of Lyra in that tone again, I wouldn’t hesitate to rip his tongue out.

  • The Luna’s Forbidden Love   Chapter 2

When the Past opens its doorsLyra's POVIt’s been five years since I turned my back on my pack—or should I say, since they turned their back on me. My Alpha knew Kael and I were mates. Heck, everyone knew we would be mates even before it was confirmed. No one had ever forcefully separated fated mates before then. But they did.I reached up and held my long-cherished necklace, taking a deep breath. It’s the one thing I can’t seem to get rid of. I’ve tried my best to forget about my pack, to put everything behind me, but it always feels impossible. A few things still tie me to the Blue Moon Pack: my parents… that night… and the life that came from it.Now I know that there were only a handful of people who accepted the fact that I was wolfless—and being wolfless meant being weak. My parents… and Kael.Or so I thought. He tried to explain the situation surrounding his engagement, but not when I needed him to. He waited three days. He only tried the night before his wedding to Christine.
