Chapter 17: Trauma

“LUTHER?”

I blinked to fight back the tears. I thought I’d forgotten how to be human, that I didn’t know how to cry anymore. The last time I shed tears was back in the woods. But seeing Alexandra again seemed to have brought back these human feelings inside me.

I thought she died that day. When I came back the following day in the woods and all I saw were traces of blood on the ground, for the first time, I understood what grief meant. I thought Pa took care of the body just like how he took care of the bodies of his enemies. I felt so guilty especially when I overheard Pa and Uncle Mason talking in the library that night and heard that they were the ones who staged the kidnapping.

It was Uncle’s ‘bright’ idea and Pa went along with it to gain the public sympathy. Our mothers didn’t know about it though. They even killed the hired thugs to make sure that what they did will not come back to haunt them one day.

After that, they began putting their so-called attention in helping more kid
