When he thundered back into the cabin I was astonished, for many reasons. He looked horrendous for a start. The exhaustion on his face, the red, raised, blood-covered lines on his neck where he had rubbed his flesh raw were so distressing to see. I was most surprised by the way my senses leapt at the sight of him.
