LOGINAria’s POV
By the time I stepped into the grand hall, I had already heard at least six different versions of how tomorrow was supposed to go. According to one omega, the ceremony would begin at sunrise. According to another, it would begin at noon, according to the head cook, the entire pack would be gathered before breakfast because apparently no one was allowed to eat until the Alpha was officially crowned and according to Martha, who had been following me around all morning with the patience of a saint, I was not supposed to believe anything I heard unless it came directly from the elders. I decided to listen to Martha. The grand hall looked nothing like it had the previous evening. Workers had transformed the enormous stone chamber into something almost unrecognizable. Long white cloths hung from the walls, embroidered with the silver crest of Ironcrest. Banners bearing my family’s name had been placed beside the newer black-and-silver banners of the pack. Tall candles stood in golden holders along the walls, though the enormous windows still allowed enough sunlight inside to make the room bright. At the far end stood the raised platform. That was where I would be crowned and where I would become his wife. The thought made something twist inside my stomach. I stopped at the entrance. Martha nearly walked into me. “Why did you stop?” I stared at the platform. “Because this is real.” She followed my gaze and sighed softly. “Yes.” “Tomorrow? I am getting married tomorrow?” I asked with awe. I turned to her. “You sound entirely too calm.” She smiled. “Someone has to be calm. You’re doing enough worrying for both of us.” I rolled my eyes and stepped into the hall. “I am not worried.” “You’ve been staring at the altar for nearly a minute.” She frowned. “It is not an altar.” I corrected her. “Fine. The ceremonial platform.” I rolled my eyes. “Thank you.” Martha laughed. I tried to laugh with her, but the sound died quickly. There was something unsettling about seeing the place where I would stand tomorrow. For most of my life, I had imagined my wedding differently. I had imagined flowers, music, my father smiling, perhaps my mother, if she had lived long enough to see it, and the the man beside me would have been someone I chose because I loved him. Instead, my father was dead. The man beside me was Kael and I was still trying to understand what my heart felt whenever he looked at me. I pushed the thoughts away. Today wasn’t about that. Today was about making sure everything was perfect. I walked farther into the hall. “The flowers are too close together,” I said. One of the omegas immediately moved toward them. “Spread them apart. I don’t want the entire platform looking crowded.” “Yes, Luna.” She hurriedly went to work. The word still made me pause. Luna? I wasn’t used to hearing it yet. Not because I didn’t know what it meant. I had been born to carry the title. But for years, I had rejected everything associated with it. Now it was being placed back into my hands and strangely, it didn’t feel as heavy as I expected. Perhaps because I wasn’t taking it for Kael, I was taking it for Ironcrest, for my father, and for myself. I moved toward the ceremonial platform. The elders had placed two chairs there. One for Kael and one for me. I stared at mine. It was decorated with the Nightshade crest, my family’s crest. My throat tightened. Someone had remembered. “Do you like it?” I turned and saw that Kael stood several feet away. I hadn’t heard him approach. He wore a simple black shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, his dark hair slightly disheveled as if he’d been training before coming here. His eyes moved from me to the chair. “I didn’t know you were here.” I straightened. “I’ve been here for several minutes.” He folded his hands. “Then you should make more noise when you walk.” I blurted out. One corner of his mouth lifted. “I’ll remember that.” I looked away. “You like the chair?” He gave a small smile. I touched the silver crest carved into the back. “It reminds me of home.” His expression changed. “It should.” I looked at him again. “Did you arrange this?” He didn’t answer immediately. “Your father would have wanted your crest here.” My fingers tightened around the edge of the chair. “You knew?” I gasped . “I helped with the arrangements.” He shrugged. “Why didn’t you tell me?” I frowned. “You would have assumed I was trying to impress you.” I frowned. “Are you?” “No.” His answer came so quickly that I almost laughed. He walked toward the platform. “I don’t need to impress you.” “That’s a very confident statement.” I chuckled. “It’s the truth.” He smiled. I watched him stop beside the chair that would belong to him. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then I asked quietly, “Are you nervous?” He looked at me. “No.” “Not even a little? We’re getting crowned and married tomorrow to me. I stared at him. “I know.” His jaw tightened. “I know that too.” I raised an eyebrow. “ why.” He looked away. “Why what?” “Why aren’t you nervous?” I glared at him. He was silent for several seconds. Then he said, “Because I’ve spent most of my life preparing for responsibility.” His voice softened. “Tomorrow is just another responsibility.” Something about the way he said it irritated me. “Just a responsibility?” His eyes returned to mine. “I didn’t mean it the way you think.” “Then what did you mean?” I shot back. “I mean that I have been preparing for the position of Alpha since I was young. And I’ve known for some time now that one day I might have to marry you.” My chest tightened. “Because my father arranged it.” “Yes.” He nodded. “And you accepted because it would give you the throne.” His expression hardened. “Is that really what you still believe?” I didn’t answer. He looked at me for a long moment before stepping away. “Never mind.” I watched him walk off. I hated the strange disappointment that settled in my chest. I hadn’t expected him to say anything romantic. I didn’t want him to. So why did I feel like I’d lost something when he walked away? I shook my head. “Aria.” Martha’s voice brought me back. “What?” She pointed toward a group of omegas waiting for instructions.“They need your approval.” I inhaled deeply. “Right.” I spent the rest of the afternoon working. I inspected the seating arrangements, I checked the ceremonial garments, I approved the flowers, I made sure the kitchens had enough food for the entire pack, I reviewed the guest list with Elder Agatha, and I argued with Elder Abel about where the elders should sit. I rejected three different arrangements for the musicians and by sunset, my feet hurt but the hall was beautiful. It looked like Ironcrest. Strong, elegant, proud, and when I stood at the center of it, I realized something. I wasn’t afraid anymore. Tomorrow wasn’t something happening to me, It was something I was walking into on my own feet, and with my own choice. Even if that choice was complicated, or if Kael and I still had wounds between us and if I didn’t know what our marriage would become. I would not run, not this time. ********* The next morning arrived far too quickly. I woke before dawn. For several minutes, I simply stared at the ceiling. Today echoed in my mind. Today I would become Luna and Kael would become Alpha officially with a Luna by his side. Today we would become husband and wife. I sat up slowly. The room was quiet. Kael wasn’t there and for some reason, I felt relieved. Martha arrived shortly afterward with several omegas carrying my ceremonial dress. When they unveiled it, I forgot how to breathe. It was breathtaking. The gown was white, but not the soft, delicate white I’d imagined. It was a rich ivory shade with silver embroidery running along the sleeves and body. The Nightshade crest had been sewn discreetly into the fabric near my waist and a long train fell behind me. Martha stared at my expression.“Well?” “I don’t know what to say.” I gasped. “Say you love it.” She demanded. “I love it.” I repeated. She grinned. “Good.” The next hour passed in a blur. My hair was styled, and jewelry was placed around my neck. My father’s old silver pendant was fastened against my chest. When I looked into the mirror, I barely recognized myself. The girl who had run away from Ironcrest was gone. The woman staring back at me looked like someone who could command a room, someone who belonged here. Martha stood behind me. “You look like your father.” My eyes filled immediately. I swallowed. “Don’t.” “I’m sorry.” She apologized “No.” I touched the pendant. “Don’t apologize.” I smiled faintly. “I want to remember him.” Martha placed her hands on my shoulders. “He would be proud.” I closed my eyes and hoped she was right. ******** The grand hall was packed when I entered. Every seat was occupied, warriors stood along the walls, omegas and families filled the chamber, the elders stood at the front, and Kael….Kael was waiting. My heart stumbled. He was dressed entirely in black. The ceremonial Alpha coat fit his broad shoulders perfectly, silver embroidery running across the collar and cuffs. His hair was neatly styled. A silver crown rested on a cushion beside Elder Elijah but it wasn’t the crown that caught my attention, It was his eyes. They were fixed on me. For several seconds, he simply stared. Something unreadable passed through his expression. Then he held out his hand and I stopped. The entire hall seemed to disappear. His hand remained extended. I looked at it, then at him. I knew what everyone expected. I also knew I could turn around and I could refuse but I didn’t. I placed my hand in his. His fingers closed gently around mine. Not tightly, not possessively, but just enough to hold me. We walked forward together. The pack rose and cheer filled the hall. My heart pounded. When we reached the platform, Kael released my hand. Elder Elijah stepped forward. “Today, Ironcrest witnesses the beginning of a new era.” His voice carried through the hall. “Kael, son of Ironcrest, you have served this pack through its darkest hour. You have protected its people. You have carried the burden left behind by Alpha Lucien. Do you accept the responsibility of becoming Alpha?” “I do.” Kael lowered his head . “Do you swear to protect this pack?” “I swear.” He placed his right hand on his chest. “To place its people before your own desires? To defend its borders? And to uphold the honor of the Nightshade bloodline?” Kael’s eyes found mine. “I swear.” Something inside me shifted. Elder Elijah lifted the crown and the hall fell silent. He placed it upon Kael’s head. “Rise, Alpha Kael of Ironcrest.” The pack erupted and cheers shook the hall. Warriors struck their fists against their chests. Kael stood straight. The Alpha title suited him more than I wanted to admit. Elder Elijah turned toward me. “And now…” My heart began pounding. “Aria Nightshade.” I stepped forward as he continued. “You are the daughter of Alpha Lucien Nightshade. Heir of Ironcrest. Blood of the house that has protected this pack for generations.” My eyes burned. “Do you accept the responsibility of becoming Luna?” I looked around the hall. At the people, at the banners, at my father’s crest, and then at Kael. “I do.” I whispered . “Do you swear to stand beside your Alpha?” I hesitated. The question was heavier than it sounded. Stand beside him, not behind him or beneath him, but beside him. I lifted my chin. “I swear to stand beside my Alpha and protect this pack.” Elder Elijah smiled. “Then rise, Luna Aria.” A silver crown was placed upon my head. The pack cheered again and I felt tears slip down my cheeks because for the first time since my father’s death, I felt like I had finally come home. Kael stepped toward me. He looked at the tears on my cheeks. “Are you all right?” he whispered. I nodded. “Yes.” His gaze lingered on me. Then Elder Agatha stepped forward. “The final part of this ceremony is the union of Alpha and Luna.” My stomach tightened. The wedding. I knew it was coming. But hearing it announced made everything suddenly real. Kael turned toward me. “Aria.” I looked at him. “ We don’t have to pretend.” He whispered. “What do you mean?” I raised a brow. “If you’re uncomfortable, we can stop.” My eyes widened. “You’d stop the ceremony? In front of everyone? Even after all this?” His expression remained serious. “Your choice matters.” For a moment, I couldn’t speak. Those words were strange coming from him especially after what happened between us. He had marked me without my consent, he had crossed a boundary that could never simply disappear but here, in front of everyone, he was giving me the chance to choose. I looked at the crowd, then back at him. “I’ll continue.” I straightened. His shoulders relaxed slightly. “Are you sure?” I nodded. “I’m sure.” Elder Elijah began the vows. Kael spoke first. “I, Kael of Ironcrest, take you, Aria Nightshade, as my wife and Luna. I vow to protect you, respect you, and stand beside you through whatever comes.” His eyes held mine. “I will not promise perfection.” A few people chuckled softly. Kael’s mouth twitched. “But I promise I will never stop trying to become worthy of the position I hold.” My heart gave a strange little beat. Then it was my turn. I swallowed. “I, Aria Nightshade, take you, Kael of Ironcrest, as my husband and Alpha.” The words felt strange but not wrong. “I vow to stand beside you, protect this pack, and honor the responsibility my father left behind. I cannot promise that our path will always be easy.” My gaze softened. “But I promise I will not run when things become difficult.” Something changed in his expression. He understood what I meant. Elder Elijah smiled. “Then by the authority of Ironcrest, I declare you husband and wife.” The pack erupted with cheers. Kael turned toward me. For a moment, neither of us moved. Then he leaned closer. I stiffened instinctively that he noticed. Immediately, he stopped and his eyes searched mine. I swallowed. “Just…” I couldn’t finish but he understood anyway. Instead of kissing me, he pressed his forehead lightly against mine. The gesture was so unexpected that I froze. His voice was barely audible. “Thank you for choosing to stay.” My eyes burned again. “I stayed for Ironcrest.” I looked into his eyes. “And for my father.” There was a pause. Then he whispered, “I’ll earn the rest.” My breath caught. Before I could ask what he meant, he stepped back. The crowd continued cheering. Music began, and people surrounded us. Congratulations came from every direction. Elder Agatha hugged me, Elder Abel shook Kael’s hand and Martha cried openly. Even some of the warriors who had watched me grow up looked emotional. For the first time in years, I wasn’t thinking about Damon. I wasn’t thinking about the letter hidden in his room, I wasn’t thinking about the betrayal and I wasn’t thinking about running away. I was simply standing there at home as a Luna and Wife. I looked at Kael. He was speaking with one of the elders, but as if sensing my gaze, he turned. Our eyes met across the crowded hall. Something unspoken passed between us. It wasn’t love or forgiveness, but it wasn’t hatred either. Maybe it was the beginning of something, something neither of us understood, and something neither of us was ready to name. Kael walked toward me. “May I have this dance?” I looked at his extended hand. Yesterday, I would have questioned his intentions. Today, I simply placed my hand in his. “Yes.” I nodded . He led me onto the floor. The music softened as his hand settled carefully at my waist. Mine rested against his shoulder and we moved slowly. Around us, Ironcrest celebrated. I looked toward the enormous windows. Beyond them were the mountains, the forests, and the training grounds where my father had watched over the pack every morning. I could almost imagine him standing there watching, smiling, and perhaps finally at peace. I rested my head lightly against Kael’s shoulder only for a moment. He went completely still then his hand tightened slightly around mine. Neither of us spoke, we didn’t need to. For tonight, there was no past, no Damon, no accusations, no throne to fight over, and no walls to defend. Only the two of us standing in the center of the hall my father had built. A new Alpha, a new Luna, a husband, a wife, and a future neither of us could see yet. I closed my eyes. Tomorrow would bring its own problems, knew that. But for tonight, I allowed myself to believe that perhaps…just perhaps…my father’s final wish hadn’t been a mistake. And somewhere deep inside me, a tiny voice whispered that maybe the real story between Kael and me had only just begun.Aria’s POVSomething was wrong with me.I had spent most of my life believing I had complete control over myself. My emotions, my temper, my wolf, and my decisions. But this….This was different.I sat on the edge of the bed inside Kael’s cabin, staring blankly at the floor while my wolf paced restlessly inside me.I squeezed my eyes shut.“Stop please.”She didn’t listen. She hadn’t listened since my heat began.Every few minutes, she would surge forward, demanding Kael.Demanding his scent, his touch, his wolf, and everything about him seemed amplified. The sound of his footsteps, the scent of his skin, and even the memory of his hands holding mine during the ceremony. It was maddening.I wanted him, I wanted him so badly that it frightened me and at the same time, another part of me screamed that I wasn’t ready.I had told him that.I had made my decision that I wasn’t prepared to sleep with him.I wasn’t prepared to have pups, and I wasn’t prepared to surrender the control I had on
Aria’s POVI woke up to sunlight spilling across the bed. For several seconds, I didn’t move.I simply stared at the ceiling, trying to remember where I was. Then I felt the warmth beside me.Kael’s side of the bed was empty. My eyes shifted toward his side of the bed.I frowned and slowly sat up.The first thing I noticed was the pillow. It was no longer between us.I remembered removing it in the middle of the night.A strange feeling settled in my chest.I wasn’t sure why I had done it, maybe I had simply been tired of seeing that barrier between us,maybe I had felt guilty, or maybe, somewhere deep inside, I had wanted to prove to myself that I could be close to him without being afraid.Whatever the reason, I wasn’t going to overthink it.I climbed out of bed and headed for the bathroom. After showering and dressing, I made my way downstairs. The packhouse was already alive.Servants moved through the corridors, warriors hurried toward the training grounds, omegas carried baskets
Aria’s POVBy the time the sun disappeared behind the mountains, I felt like I had lived an entire lifetime in one day.The ceremony had finally ended, but the celebrations had not.For hours, Ironcrest had been filled with music, laughter, dancing, and the sounds of warriors celebrating their new Alpha and Luna.People had approached me from every direction. Some kissed my cheeks, others hugged me, and many bowed before calling me Luna.I had smiled until my cheeks hurt.I had thanked everyone, I had danced, I had listened to stories about my father from people I barely remembered and through all of it, Kael had remained beside me.Sometimes close, and sometimes a few steps away, but always there. Now, finally, we were sitting in the dining hall. The long table was filled with food.Roasted meat, fresh bread, steamed vegetables, potatoes, fruits, and sweet pastries. There were enough dishes to feed twice the number of people sitting around the table and after spending the entire day

Aria’s POVI was halfway to the kitchen when I ran into Martha.I turned the corner too quickly, and she nearly dropped the basket of folded clothes in her hands.“Aria!” She shrieked.“I’m sorry.” I reached for the basket, steadying it before anything fell.Martha stared at me, then her eyes immediately moved to my neck.I instinctively covered the mark with my hand. She noticed, of course she did. Everyone did.“How are you feeling?” she asked carefully.“Fine.” Her eyebrow rose. “ sure?”I sighed. “Don’t look at me like that.”“Like what?” She chuckled.“Like you’re afraid I’ll fall apart.” I rolled my eyes.Martha smiled faintly. “I wasn’t, but maybe a little.”I rolled my eyes and continued walking.“Where are you going?” She asked.“The kitchen.” I replied “Why?” She hurried after me.“Because I’m hungry.” I looked at her like she had gone mad.Martha followed me. “You’re hungry?”“Yes.” I walked faster.“You could have asked the omegas to bring you something.”“I’ve spent en
Kael’s POVI knew something had changed the moment I stepped into the hallway. The first omega I passed bowed deeply.“Good morning, Alpha.”I nodded. “Good morning.”She straightened, but instead of walking away, she gave me a strange smile, then she giggled.I frowned. “What?”“Nothing, Alpha.” She quickly lowered her head.I continued walking. The next two omegas I passed did the same thing. They bowed, smiled, giggled and whispered.I stopped and they immediately froze.“What is going on?” I asked. One of them looked at the other.“Nothing, Alpha.”“Then why are you laughing?” I frowned.“We’re not laughing.” The other omega covered her mouth.A muffled giggle escaped anyway. My eyebrow lifted and she immediately bowed.“Congratulations, Alpha.”My stomach dropped.“Congratulations for what?”She looked at me as though I had asked the most ridiculous question.“For finally claiming Lady Aria.”My body went completely still. Of course because of the mark, everyone knew.I swallowed
