NARRATIVE POV (4yrs ago)

Frankie lay in the hospital bed. She’d received nine stitches in total, but blood loss was the concern. After the doctors tested her, they discovered some rare anomalies in her blood type. It left them confused and without options from the reserves.

Oliver did not hesitate to offer his arm for them to take hold of. He had the universal blood type that could be given to her.

After the transfusion, all that was left was to wait for Frankie to wake up again.

Alpha Tom watched Frankie sleeping from the observation window by the door into her room. He felt guilty over what had happened. He failed to see what Troy Presley had done and only witnessed what he presumed was Frankie’s loss of control in the match. If he had known what really transpired leading up to that moment, the ruling would have been announced differently, and Frankie wouldn’t have felt the need to bleed out in the woods alone. The problem was that when Frankie openly challenged him, he lost focus on staying level-headed. Sometimes Frankie exhibited Alpha female traits, which was unusual as her father is from a long line of Gamma blood and her mother, although wolfless, assured us when she joined that pack that she was from an omega background and her wolf, before losing her after being rejected by her true mate, was also an omega wolf. Frankie's dominance at times never made sense to him.

Speaking of her parents, Tom was stunned by how cavalier they were about it all. It was clear that Frankie could have died out there if not for being found by his Luna and pups. Instead of trying to smooth things over with him and saving their image within the pack, the Gamma pair should have been searching for their injured daughter. Tom knew there was a disconnect between them, but he felt like this neglect was crossing a line. The Gamma pair hadn’t visited Frankie once since being brought into the hospital unconscious. Alpha Tom knew that his Gamma, Mike, cared for his daughter, but it was easier for him to connect with Ryner as they were both males. In Tom's opinion, Mike was scared because Frankie was a girl. Mike's always been rough around the edges and work-focused. Raising a daughter was not something someone like Mike could compute. Unfortunately, both his Gamma and Frankie were suffering because of this invisible unease between the two. Anytime Tom brought up Frankie, Mike's eyes would light up with pride, but he could never break the barrier and figure out how to express it constructively, the way a daughter needs. It was different with sons, and Tom was afraid that, as of now, it might be too late for his long-time friend. Frankie was pulling away, even he could sense it, not just from her family, but from the pack. It was his pups and mate that held her here now. That bothered him more than he cared to admit.

“It’s not your fault, my love!” Luna Margie wrapped her arms around Alpha Tom’s waist, pulling him into her warmth.

“I am the Alpha. I should have sensed something was wrong. Frankie isn’t a violent person; that behaviour we all witnessed was out of character for her, but I failed to question why it happened. Instead, I publicly reprimanded her for defending herself.” Alpha Tom shakes his head in frustration and tightens his hold on his Luna for emotional comfort and support.

“What are you going to do about the boy?” She didn’t need to mention his name; it was clear that she was referring to Troy Presley, the disgraceful cheater.

“I have arranged a proper meeting with his family for tomorrow. They want Frankie publicly punished and then banished as an example.”

“What? She is still a minor, not to mention, she wasn’t in the wrong!” Luna Margie pulled away in disbelief. Frankie was like one of her pups, and this set both her and her wolf, Fawn, on edge with the need to protect.

“None of what they have been demanding will happen. Have no fear, my Luna.” Alpha Tom cupped his mate's face and smiled. “He will need surgery to reconstruct a large portion of his face, but he was notably the aggressor. Since his wounds are the most severe, that is his punishment, alongside a demotion in the warrior class ranking. Frankie will not receive any form of punishment, as she was forced to protect herself against a partially shifted male attacker. She will apologize for her temper and disrespect, but nothing more.”

With his words, Luna Margie audibly sighed in relief.

“Tom,” she whispered, nestling back into his warm chest. “Have you noticed how Oliver is towards Frankie? I think there is something there between them, but it is still in the raw, undeveloped stages.”

This caused Tom to pause and pull back slightly. “Really?”

Luna Margie smiled and nodded before nestling back into his welcoming embrace. “Or at how eager he was to donate her his blood. There is definitely something there.”

  • The Luna’s Wrath   Chapter 34

ARIA POVMy heart clenched at the thought. My wolf, Lyra, whimpered. She was a sister to us, and she was hurting without anyone to help her through it. Sure, she could have technically come to talk to us, but I know my parents were determined to make this marriage work. Had Frankie gone to them? Did they tell her to grin and bear it for the term dictated? It sounded like something they might do, although they didn't fully understand the extent of her misery. Did she go to Oli? He’d become distant and cold after the wedding. Were they still even friends?I had too many questions, and I was going to get them all answered. Frankie was a part of my soul. I loved her with everything in me, as did Lyra. We were going to figure this out.We pulled up to the pack house, a place that once brought me smiles and laughter, but now felt like a cold tomb. There was no joy without Frankie in this house, because without Frankie in it, it wasn’t a home anymore.I stepped out of the car while my driver

  • The Luna’s Wrath   Chapter 33

ARIA POVI was about to enter our pack territory, and I noticed that the aura around the pack was dark and reeked of death and doom. It was unexpected and unsettling. My pack has always felt warm, welcoming and joyful.I had only been gone for two years. It had never felt like this before, so did it happen while I was gone, or was it because of Frankie's death?Just the thought that Frankie was gone brought tears to my eyes. Again.Frankie.My Frankie!A sob shook my body. My assigned pack driver watched me struggle to compose myself in the mirror. He handed me back a tissue with a sympathetic smile.“Miss Aria, the pack has been blanketed by a sheet of sadness for the past week. Nothing feels like it did before. Many are hurting over this loss.” My driver says, I detect sadness in his tone.Frankie was kind to everyone, as long as they didn’t pis.s her off, that is. She was a firecracker when she was in warrior mode. She became an unstoppable beast in the training matches, but outsid

OLIVER POV“Sit, Oliver. We need to discuss our situation.”With a sigh, I picked up my overturned chair and flopped down on it.“I received a notice from the Royal Courts. Oliver, you need to release him.” My father started. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. “No! He is my top suspect!” I wouldn’t entertain the idea for a second. Of course, he wants to protect the weak son.“There is no evidence tying Aiden to Frankie's death. It is unlawful to detain him any longer than you already have. Word got back to the Royals about a murder, and Aiden was being held in lockup with no attorney or evidence. I don’t know how they found out so fast, but the Royal Beta has dictated that Aiden Harris is to be released until proven guilty.”I pushed from the chair. “He did it! There isn’t a doubt in my mind that if we release him, he will cover up any trail we may have.”“Oliver, our hearts are just as broken by the loss of Frankie. She was very much one of our pups, even before she married Aiden.

OLIVER POVI’ve been wallowing in my own guilt and shame for days now. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Frankie that morning, begging me to set her free from Aiden. I see the hurt in her eyes when I respond and send her right back to him. I see the way her face falls when I tell her that she can die or leave the pack. Why? Why the fu.ck would I do that? Frankie was my everything, and I did this. If I had pushed my pride aside and helped her, she wouldn’t have died that night. I was such a fu.cking idiot. It was all my fault.Stop! Deek whimpered, but he was no better. He carried just as much shame for our actions as I did. We had to keep our distance, but we didn't need to hurt her like we had. It was uncalled for, and we'd forever feel this regret because of it. Frankie was right; she was always right. We screwed up and allowed our bruised pride to speak for us. Worse, it was allowing him back in.Everything about Frankie was perfect, even the things she classified as flaws. I neve

  • The Luna’s Wrath   Chapter 30

NARRATIVE POV“Alpha, we found something over here.” Retired Gamma Mike Hill calls out, and both Ryner and Oliver walk over.Mike is crouched down with the inspector. They were examining a large area of darkened and charred staining on a few of the floorboards that were not entirely destroyed by the fire.“What is that, Dad?” Ryner asked as he crouched down next to his father.“We can’t be certain just yet, but my nose is rarely wrong. I was a tracker before I became a Beta, Alpha. I believe this is blood. And I suspect there was a lot of it.” Mike’s facial expression was tight and grim.“Blood?” Oliver growled. His thoughts rushed forward, filling his head. Was this where Frankie was murdered? Why else would there be the potential discovery of blood and a fire the day after Frankie disappeared? This was too much of a conscience. What Oliver did know was that if this were tested and turned out to be Frankie’s blood, it would mean that Aiden had nothing to do with it. He had been in lo

  • The Luna’s Wrath   Chapter 29

NARRATIVE POVThe flames consumed the old cabin, and the smoke filled the forest.Frankie watched from a safe distance away, watching as the fire started to tear down and burned to ruin her final resting place.Who had set the fire? She wasn’t sure, but her three wolves flanked her sides and ensured that no one detected their presence. Frankie hadn’t awoken yet. She was still hollowed and adapting to being physically on earth again. The burning flames flickered over the gloss of her blackened eyes. Her face held no emotion. She watched with a curious emptiness, but could not turn away. The fire enticed something within her.The pack sounded an alarm once smoke was detected from the town, where most residents were busy themselves. The firefighters arrived quickly.“Who started this fire?” Alpha Oliver growled as he assessed the intensity of the fire that was beginning to lean towards the surrounding trees. The last thing any pack wants is an uncontained forest fire. The forest was not
