“Oh, I'm sorry, Scarlett, I don't think you should go up there right now.”
Scarlett Davis came to an abrupt halt at the foot of the stairs. A frown creased across her forehead as she casted a confusing look at her boyfriend’s sister, Saddy Campbell. Saddy was almost like a sister and heck she loved her but wasn't up for her games that moment.
“Why? I have to see my boyfriend, your brother. Noah is up there, isn't he?”
She looked past Saddy up the stairs. Legs itched her. She couldn't wait.
Saddy lashes blinked but she said no words.
Scarlett drew in a deep breath. Her patience was growing thin by the second.
She tried to sidestep Saddy but Saddy was quick to stand in her way again.
Another exasperated sigh. “What is wrong, Saddy? You need to get out of the way now. I can't keep Noah waiting.”
“I don't think Noah wants to see you now, Scarlett,” Saddy blurted. Her lips tightened into a thin line.
Scarlett’s eyes pinched. Saddy was always like this when she wanted something.
“Okay. What do you want, Saddy Campbell? Let me through and you have what you want. Tell me, is it the trending hair clip? That cute little Puma one or is it the latest Puma shoes?”
To Scarlett’s surprise, Saddy just shrugged. No excitement. That was the weirdest thing to ever witness. Saddy indifferent about the latest Puma brand shoes and hair clips. Something was definitely amiss.
“I'm sorry Scarlett but can you not see my brother today?”
“But it's our anniversary and Noah wants me here. You know how we always celebrate our anniversary? Come on now Saddy, I will get you some really nice cakes on our way back. Alright?”
Quickly, she rounded Saddy and headed up forcing herself to ignore the sad look on Saddy's face as she went. A glance at her wristwatch had her sighing. Noah would have given up waiting for her by now.
If only she hadn't entered the wrong train coupled with Saddy’s strange behaviour.
She ran up the remaining staircase, cornered into the hallway and stopped at the first door.
Scarlett paused and took a deep breath. Retrieved a little mirror from her purse and checked herself out once more. She had to be perfect. Noah said he didn't mind but she had to be perfect for him. She had ordered flowers and reserved a special place he didn't know of. It was going to surprise him. A little smile tugged at her lips. Certainly she was looking marvellous, Scarlett was sure to blow Noah’s mind away.
At the mental count of three she pushed the door and got in.
Tiny moans welcomed her with the sight she hadn't ever imagined to witness. Noah's hands were circled around another girl, lips locked.
Her legs froze right at the door. Lips parted but no words came out. The room spinned before her. Tears stung her eyes and slowly she began to retract, shaking her head.
Then she spun and bolted out of the room.
Scarlett ran all the way out and didn't stop until she was out of Alpha Campbell's building.
Outside she stopped, panting. Her hands reached for her chest and she clutched. She couldn't breathe.
“No…no… I must have seen wrong… I saw wrong…” she continued to mumble, shaking her head. But the memories had already been stored and they reared up again.
She couldn't just leave. Noah was her boyfriend of ten years. She couldn't just leave like a coward… like a loser.
She had to stomp the last of her pride aside and ask. She needed answers.
Clenching her teeth, she wheeled around and dashed back into the house but bumped into Noah who was coming after her.
“Scarlett, let me explain,” Noah started.
Scarlett looked up at him.
“Explain? What do you have to explain, Noah? That you have been cheating on me? That the whispers about you seeing another woman in the Pack is right? That what we had for ten years meant nothing to you? Is that what you want to explain? Fine. Go ahead and explain. Who is she?”
“She is Rose…”
“Damn you Noah! I didn't bloody ask you for her name! What is she doing in your room? Why was she in your arms while you kissed her?”
Tears clogged her throat. She paused to gather herself. But her emotions were getting ahead of her.
“Look Scarlett, there is something I should have told you…”
She managed to glance at him, her heart breaking with every second that passed. With every look he gave her. What happened to her lovely Noah?
“Two of us… There is no future between us. People talk. They will keep talking about you…your father…”
“Fuvk Noah! You said it was okay. You said you didn't mind the position of my father in the Pack… You said you don't mind our differences… you didn't mind my father being the Omega of the Pack…Why are you doing this to me now…”
“I'm sorry, Scarlett…”
She reached forward and held him. He had to still love and wish for things to work between them. She searched his eyes hoping to see even the tiniest bit of love for her still there. “I loved you Noah…No, I love you Noah. You know I do… I don't care that you are the Alpha's son and…”
He snatched away. “But I care… I care for it all Scarlett and no matter how much we pretend to not care, it will always be there. Deep inside of us, inside of you, you know what we had was meant to never last.”
She fought back a lump in her throat.
“Look Scarlett, I'm sorry I didn't mean for you to find out this way. But I think Rose is my mate.”
Scarlett shrunk. “What? You think?”
His face turned serious. “Maybe we have been deceiving ourselves all along. Two of us… we were never meant to be. There is nothing you can offer me. Your father can't help my father as the Alpha and the pressure is on me. I can't let my brother win. But Rose? Her father is the Beta of the Pack. You know what that means to people like me,” Noah said. He looked behind his shoulder to see Rose had joined them. He walked over to Rose and took her hands.
“She is the one for me. I have known her as long as I have known you. She is my mate and I have chosen her. Someday I hope you find your own mate.”
Scarlett felt her head so light, her knees so weak they nearly gave in. Her fingers grasped onto her dress.
The tears flowed. Noah and Rose disappeared back into the house. She barely managed to c
atch a glimpse of their backs through her hazy eyes.
She turned around and trudged away.
SCARLETT’S POVONE YEAR LATER“Push!” Nurse Kimberly, the most friendly woman I'd known in the last one year yelled. There was nothing friendly in both her expression and most of her actions today. “Do you want this pup dead inside you? Huh?” she yelled. I tightened my abdominal muscles and pushed. “Alright! You are doing great! I can see him. Now push again. Harder this time.”It was about the nicest thing she'd said to me today. I tried again. “You want to suffocate him in your thighs!” she barked. “How do you know it's a boy…”“Oh shut up and push!”I panted heavily. I was tired, drenched and losing my strength. I was forcing my eyes to stay open. My two hands were each tied to strong sticks in a cross like manner. It was the full moon and the only time I could deliver my pup safely. The healer had performed a ritual. She said it was a once in a lifetime slim chance I was able to get pregnant after having my womb damaged by a poisoned dagger. But right now I felt like I may d
“What's up man?” Damian spoke into the phone. “Uhm, how far are you guys gone?”“We are already on the way back. Fill me in, what's the state of things?” He knew Asher would never have called if it wasn't something serious. “No, I'm sorry for interrupting. You should enjoy your date. I'll figure this out with Ethan.Freya grabbed the phone. “Don’t worry about my dinner with my man. Come on Asher, we started this shit together and should finish. If you need our help then you got us. We can have as many dinner dates as we want as soon as that old monster is rotting in the dungeon.” Damian was completely mused. “I'm sorry for cutting your date short but I need your help right now. Silas is surrounded and demanding I arrest him myself and Silver Fang is under seizure. Alloy Campbell’s handwork. Services are shut down.”“Isn't Scarlett on her way there?” Freya blurted, gasping. “We are on our way now.” Damian said as he hastily grabbed their jackets and they started out. The two arriv
Noah Campbell just had to come at the worst timing. Scarlett was only intending to stop briefly at Silver Fang to see her father before leaving finally. She wouldn't have planned all of this if she was going to settle here. Silver Fang wasn’t too far away for Asher to come looking for her. She knew her cravings for aloneness had been jeopardized the moment she allowed Noah to ride the same car with her. But it got worse when he began probing into things. “Did the lycan Alpha force you to do it?”“I did it because I wanted to.” She said after a brief silence. She didn't think she'd ever be in the same space alone with him again. He hurt her. He treated her like they never shared anything. Like they never had anything going on! Dumping her easily for his mate was maybe forgivable but dragging her to another Pack, that she swore never to forgive. But right now she didn't think it was worth her energy anymore. She'd forgiven him. If she had not been dragged to another Pack, she wouldn'
“We gotta talk,” Ethan said to Lucas. His body was almost healed from the torture.Lucas held the door slightly open. “Talk about what.” He questioned poking his head out of the door of his room. “About you, dude.”“What about me?”Ethan scoffed. He glanced around. “Let's talk inside or would you want me to talk right here?” He demanded in a serious tune. Lucas' eyes flickered. He had a feeling of why Ethan had visited his room. “Go on. What is it about me you wanna talk about?”“What's going on with you, man? Why's Asher the only one in the questioning room right now when he has a best friend and a Gamma? Why the fuck you cooped inside here for days?!”“Not any of your business.”“Forget about being his best friend. You are slacking in your duties as the Gamma of this Pack.”“Then take the damn title away if that will make you happy.”“What exactly the fuvk is your problem!”“If that's all, you should leave. I need to rest.”Ethan scoffed in disbelief. “Is it true? What I heard, is
“But really I'm curious. What was your plan when you came to rescue me?” Ethan asked Asher who came to check on him. When he saw Asher, he thought he had men hidden only to realize he had come alone. “Did you really believe Silas words or he bewitched you?” “I had a plan,” boasted Asher. “Showing up all alone to fight three assassins? What if Scarlett didn't show up?”“Well, I guess we'll never know.”Ethan shook his head in disbelief. “Will everything be alright? I mean, Silas is still out there and one of his strong men too.”“And worse, he could hire more men.”“We must catch him before then.” Asher said. “How? You are thinking of torturing those men? I doubt they will speak. They are highly trained assassins and I'm sure they would rather bite their tongues than sell out Silas.”“We'll find out. Bring them out.” Asher commanded. The two Silas men captured were brought into the questioning room. Asher had the room kept dim. Only the torturing equipment was highlighted by the
SCARLETT’S POV“Hope I'm not interrupting anything?” Freya asked innocently. Her face said otherwise though. Covered with a smug. “Uh no of course not.” Bitch, you just stopped me from another round of mad explosive sex! “Well, great then because I need you to help me select an outfit.” She sounded excited and was giving me this look like she wanted me to ask for details. I felt like smacking her face. She really called me out to select an outfit for her date when I was in the middle of spending time with my man whom I have missed for so long. I sighed, biting back my frustration. “Outfit for what?”“Oh yeah. Damian asked me to go to dinner with him. Outside of this house. Alone. Together.”“That's great. Happy for you both,” I said dryly. “Oh come on. Show more happiness for me.” She whined. We ended up picking a classic little red dress, flare at the waist and downward but fitted upwards. “This is perfect!” She cried when I spotted it in her wardrobe and paired one of her hee
