Chapter 21

While the guard stood there, motionless, I weighed my options. I couldn't bypass the warriors out front without my chains. And I couldn't get to the control room without running into anyone, which would mean, even though I managed to escape freely, I would still risk someone raising an alarm on seeing me without my bonds.

And there was the fact I didn't want to escape just yet. I had unfinished business.

I studied the guard's stoic face. "Open up," I said. He came forward and opened the cell, going over to the worn table across the room to grab my smaller bonds.

After getting them, he stood before me. I outstretched my arms pointedly. Bending, he exchanged my bonds, pulling me up.

I gave him directions to the control room and he began to take me there. Once we got to the main chamber, I grew nervous, passing under the rapt gazes of the lycans there.

Someone slapped my guard's shoulder, saying, "Taking her to the king's again?"

Silence.
