Maren

The King's car stopped at Ashwood's gate, right where the truck stood the day they sent me away. I put my bare hand on the gate's iron rail as I stepped down, the cold metal biting into my fingertips.

The yard was full of faces I knew. The King came round the car and stood beside me, silent.

My stepmother got to me first, all smiles. "This is a good thing, you coming back. More meat for us all, and the list will go so much easier now." She rested her hand on my arm and gave it a squeeze.

MarenI had my door open and was out in the corridor. The stone was cold underfoot. I stopped at the King's door and laid my wrapped hand on the bolt, and it knocked once in its staple.Something thumped against the other side of the door. "Nadia," I called. There was a short silence. "Draw the bolt," she whispered, quick and sharp. "Don't just stand there, draw it, draw it now, before he gets up."There was a sound from behind her."Where is he?" I asked quietly."He growled at me from the floor when I was yelling and I shut my trap. He's on the floor by the fire," she hissed back. "He's sweated right through his shirt, he won't look at me. His eyes have gone strange. He told me to get in the corner and not run. What does that mean?"I leaned my forehead on the cold metal and kept my voice low. "Do what he said. Get in the corner, get down low, keep still, and whatever he does, don't run."She went quiet. Then her whisper came again, and it shook. "You know. You fucking know what thi

I tilted my head, not understanding. She repeated it, slower, smiling harder. "Remember your own people, Maren. Remember the needs of the pack. All of us need you now." Her eyes glittered coldly as she spoke, the way they always did when I didn't respond quickly enough. "We need you here, beside us, where you belong.""What?" I said, more confused. "You sold me."Her smile held, but her eyes slid to the King."Maren," my father cut in, in

MarenA knock on the door.Ilsa came in with a breakfast tray and bowed, eyes averted. "Madam." She laid every dish on the table."Did you come to my chambers last night, Ilsa?" I asked."No, Madam. I was below with the servants all night. You may ask anyone. In the King's wing, nothing goes missing except by the King's word."Brida stepped forward, sharp. "Who said anything had gone missing?""For what other reason would you ask whether a servant came into your chambers in the night, Madam?" Ilsa replied softly, eyes downcast.I let it drop."The kitchen is heating water for the tribute again, Madam," Ilsa said."They weren't heating anything when I was down there," Brida said."An order came down after you left, I believe," Ilsa said. "It seems the King has sent for her again tonight. He hadn't finished with her."Nadia was meant to go to the King tonight, on the moon, until the Queen ordered her sent to him a night early instead.I had believed Nadia would be safe tonight, spared t

MarenBrida stopped in the bedroom doorway with the water pail still swinging from her hand. "Reeks of him in here."I pulled the blanket higher and didn't answer. She set the pail down. "I heard him last night. Smelled you both when you came back up the stair. Where'd he take you? What'd he do to you?""He fed me," I said after a moment.Brida snorted. "Fed you? I've been begging you to eat for two days and he drags you out in the middle of the night to stuff you?""Meat pies," I said."Before all that, I heard feet running, and a girl crying past my door. And downstairs this morning, they're all talking. The tribute, Nadia, she ran out of his chambers last night with his fucking finger marks on her throat. Nobody knows what went on in there, only she didn't stay the night.""He strangled her?" I asked wary."Obviously."Brida stopped by the corridor door and stared at the bare wall behind it. "The bar's gone," she said."The King took it," I said. "Early last night, I barred that do

RonanHer eyes flashed with anger, but she looked at me. I said nothing and kissed her again, harder. My free hand found the soft swell of her belly and ran up under her breasts.I squeezed one heavy breast through the thin lace. She hissed but arched into my touch, her hard nipple pressing against my palm, and I groaned at the feel of it.She was so fucking soft, everywhere.I pushed her lace up and ran my hand over her tits and her thick thighs. Her silky thighs and belly gave under my fingers, warm and heavy, so much of her to grab, and I'd never had my hands full of a woman like this, and I wanted to fucking die on it, but I couldn't admit that, to her or to myself."Ronan," she said, small and desperate, and her thighs clamped around my wrist, holding me to her.I slid my hand between them and found her soaked cunt. "Fuck," I muttered. "Fucking drenched, you dirty bitch."She snarled. "I'm not a bitch.""Quiet," I said again, and pushed a finger into her, then another. Her back b

  • The Lycan King's Plump Obsession   65 Look at Me

RonanThe cold night air curled around my bare feet, the gravel rough and sharp against my soles. I let my head tip back, my eyes finding the moon overhead, big and swollen and ripe.I could feel her full belly heavy in my own, where all day her deliberate starving had hollowed out my insides. The redness was thinning at the edges of my vision, the clamor in my head going quiet for the first time in days.I sank into the relief of it, let it spread through my veins like warm blood.I was grateful for the relief, grateful for her, and I would never admit that to anyone, especially not to her.Fear hit me, a cold drop through my gut and chest.I ignored it. It wasn't my problem, she was in her room, and whatever had spooked her could wait till morning.I stayed where I was in the cold, trying to get the quiet back, but it wouldn't go away. It kept gnawing, sharper, eating the quiet I finally had, the same way her damn hunger had eaten my whole night, and my temper rose at her for it. Sh
