MasukSage’s POV
A Soft knock was placed on the door.
“Ma’am,” a maid said from behind the door. “Your breakfast.”
I opened my eyes, realising that it was morning already.
“Arghhh!” I groaned into my pillow, not ready to stand up yet.
I sat up slowly, still trying to get used to waking up in this comfy room.
I barely even slept last night, not after King Dominic casually kissed me on the lips. I could still feel the burning sensation on my lips like it had just happened moments ago.
I bit my lips gently as I remembered that moment.
“My lady!” The voice of the maid sounded in my head again.
I set my leg down from the bed quickly, shaking my head like it could shake away that moment.
I was already heading towards the washroom to get prepared for breakfast.
“I’ll be down in a bit.” I replied.
“No ma’am, I have your breakfast here with me.
I frowned. I totally didn’t expect that. I went ahead to open the door, though still confused.
They wheeled in a table. Not a tray. A whole table with Silver lids.
As much as I preferred solitude, I couldn’t help but ask myself. Why wasn’t I eating at the dining room today?
Could it be that he was really embarrassed last night and decided to lock me up finally. I didn’t have any other logical answer for that.
I gently opened the lids, steam curling into the air. Bread, fruits, soup, eggs, things I didn’t even remember to name.
It looked beautiful, but the smell… Everything smelled strange and somewhat awful.
I gagged, turning away as fast as my hand flew to my mouth.
I rushed to the washroom, barely making it though.
Leaning over the toilet top, I threw up. The funny part was that it wasn’t a whole meal or at least a good amount of it that could really be classified as vomit. It was just that same greenish-yellowish stuff like the last time.
My stomach cramped. I couldn’t even explain how bad it felt.
When I was done, I stayed there for a little longer.
This wasn’t normal.
The maid hovered by the door when I came out, worry written all over her face.
“Ma’am… Is everything alright?”
I nodded. “I just, I don’t know what’s going on with me. And it’s not the first time either.”
“Seems to me like you’re carrying a child.”
“A child?” I shook my head nervously. “It can’t be.”
She hesitated, then lowered her voice. “We could… run a pregnancy test. Just to be sure.”
My hands shook.
Could it be that I was carrying Cyrus’ child?
“Can you help me with that?” I whispered.
She nodded and was about to leave when I called her back.
“Please don’t let him find out.”
She bowed. “As you wish, my lady.”
I locked myself in the washroom till she returned.
My heart wouldn’t stop beating fast as I took the tube with shaky hands.
I did the needful and waited for it to read.
It seemed like time stretched too long.
The result finally came.
Two lines.
My vision blurred.
“No,” I whispered. “No, no…”
I slid down the wall and hugged my knees. My mind went back to the moments in Shadow Pack, that night when Cyrus had lost control.
I didn’t know how long I sat there before the maid knocked again.
I refused to open the door. “It’s negative.” I lied. “I’m probably just suffering a mild sickness.”
“So sorry about that ma’am. Let me know if there’s any way I can help you?”
I shook my head even if she couldn’t see me.
“I’m fine!”
I spent the rest of the day numb.
I couldn’t eat or even think. Both Breakfast and Lunch, I skipped them. I wasn’t new to running on an empty stomach, so I handled it just fine.
“Please don’t let him find out that I didn’t eat.”
By evening, another knock came. “The King requests your presence in his office.”
The news left me disoriented for a couple of seconds.
I quickly wore something presentable. I’ve been in my nightwear since.
My legs felt weak as I walked there with the maid leading me.
They felt even weaker when we got to his door. The maid knocked.
“Your majesty, she’s here.” The maid announced.
His office was darker than the rest of the palace. His aura was extremely heavy there. The smell of papers and coffee also filled in the room.
My eyes scanned the top of his desk before they got to him, seated behind the desk.
“Did you eat?” he asked, his voice calm.
I swallowed, trying to let the word form. “Yes.”
The lie tasted sour.
He studied me for a moment, but he didn’t say anything.
Instead, he turned his tablet toward me. The screen lit up.
My room.
My breath left me. “You have cameras in my room?” I screamed.
He looked up at me with that ‘and so?’ expression.
“That… that’s an invasin of privacy!”
“Is it?” he asked quietly. “You are my mate. In my kingdom. Under my protection.”
“That doesn’t give you the right to watch me! I’m not a prisoner.”
He leaned over the desk. “I have every right to make sure my mate isn’t planning to escape.”
I let out a pained laughter. “Escape? With guards everywhere? Cameras everywhere? You think I would even make it through?”
I stepped back. “You think you’re protecting me, but you’re not. You’re keeping me hostage, and that makes you no different from Cyrus.”
Those words hung between us. For the first time, I watched his perfect mask fade, overpowered by a pained expression that suddenly made me feel guilty.
It flickered across his eyes before he masked it.
The room went quiet.
“You want me to let you go?” he asked calmly.
My heart slammed.
This was it.
The moment I’d dreamed of. Freedom. Having my life all to myself and in my control.
But when I opened my mouth, nothing came out.
Cyrus's POV My hands tightened around the phone. If I could reach in and tear Dominic's heart out of his chest then I would. It was maddenig - watching him act like she was his. She wasn't! She was mine! Only mine. This was all I needed to know that I had to act faster. If I kept being patient, he would win her over. I hadn't ignored the slight tilt of her lips as she smiled when he said it. It wasn't easily noticeable but I noticed it. After all, I had known her for years. She was my mate. Nothing of that second chance bullshit that Dominic had spewed. I would make sure she was mine again, even if I had to destroy his kingdom to do so. Only then would he know not to play games with me. There could be no more delay, I turned to Leon, “Make sure our men keep their eyes here and make him break. Let's head back to the kingdom before our time expires. We don't have a complete map yet” Leon nodded and began to do as I asked while I walked back to the car. My hands itched to do somethi
Dominic's POV A part of me had known that calling Gloria for a private meeting wouldn't be ideal but it didn't matter. I had a few things on my mind and her presence wasn't helping matters. I needed to get her out of my kingdom. Cyrus was still holed up where he had kept himself. My men had been watching to make sure he didn't make any moves but nothing had come back to me. He was being careful - too careful. It was suspicious. I picked my files, “Keep eyes on him no matter what. I don't care if nothing ever happens but he can't catch us unprepared" I told Keisha.“Yes Alpha" he said, going off to another side of the palace while I headed to the room where I had asked Gloria to wait for me. It wasn't supposed to be hidden but I didn't want anyone seeing both of us together, especially my family. When I got to the quarters, I opened the door and walked in, making sure the door was locked behind me. She was seated at the table with a few papers open in front of her. When she heard t
Dominic's POV I could clearly see she was nervous, her eyes darting around the restaurant. It hadn't gone past my notice, the people who had been staring at us. Of course the news would spread throughout the kingdom in very little time. We were alone again, her eyes on me, watching carefully. I wanted to ask her to talk to me but didn't say anything. Instead, I cleared my throat, and spoke, “Tell me something about you, something I may not know" She raised a brow at the question, whether it was wonder or something else, I didn't know for sure. "Well, I would have preferred to ask you that question. You're the one with so much more that I don't know” she gestured around. She knew she was right but I didn't answer her immediately. Instead I smiled, "I invited you here to talk to you, get to know you. There's not much to me anyway. It would be too boring”She shook her head stubbornly, "I'm sure there's so much I don't know. You've ruled a whole kingdom for years. There's definitely
Sage's POV Now I had no doubt that he thought I was some sort of fool after all. That his words would just trump hers when he hadn't told me even half of the truth. At that moment I wanted to tell him of the war he supposedly fought for her but decided not to. The indecision was clear in his face. He didn't know for sure what to do next. If he was going to give a few more stories or the truth. He cleared his truth as he chose, “Anyway she'll be gone soon and out of the way. You won't have to listen to any of her stories" I nodded, there was nothing else to say. He had chosen to keep me in the dark and something told me he wouldn't change that. At that moment, the decision was clear. This couldn't work out - wouldn't work out. Not with the way we held secrets from each other. Not with his kingdom wanting another woman as his queen. He was better than Cyrus but it was either trouble or trouble. I would need to rescue my mother from Cyrus first. He turned around and continued to wal
Dominic's POV I was in the middle of sorting a document out when a knock came on the door. I sighed, hoping it wasn't her, “Come in" I said, watching the door for who would come in. Surprisingly, Keisha came in. He looked like he had raced to get here, sweating and panting when he walked in. He closed the door behind him. “I'm sorry My king, I tried to reach you through the link but you weren't available" I shook my head as I came back to the present. I had been lost in my thoughts and unknowingly scrambled that. “It's fine, did anything happen?" I asked him. He nodded, “Yes my king. The men we asked to watch Cyrus said he just left the territory. He didn't go with his men so it wasn't a permanent exit. They just saw him leave with his beta in a hurry" he informed me. I sat up straight at that, raising a brow at the news. “That is different then. Did they follow him to wherever he went?" I asked him. Something told me that this place was important, maybe he was hiding something t
Cyrus's POV My hands held her throat tightly, squeezing the air from it as strongly as I could. “How dare you" I muttered, anger pulsed through me like it was my blood. I could almost taste it whenever I swallowed. Her eyes were wide with fear as she stared back at me. She opened her mouth to beg but all that came out were fast breaths as she tried to talk. “Pl…" she began but couldn't try anymore, not with my hands crushing her windpipe. “Alpha, she's going to die" Lyon told me a fact I already knew. He shut up when he saw the look I gave him, moving back in fear. I looked back at her, enjoying the feeling as I slowly snuffed the life out of her. Just before she was gone past the place I couldn't control, I let her go. She fell to the ground, gasping as she tried her hardest to breathe. Her hands clawed at her throat, breath fast and steady as she tried her hardest to catch herself. I looked down at the pathetic sight with some pleasure. Before she could move or do anything, I
