"Say!" Iron spat, wrapping his hands in the back of her hair to force her to look him in the eyes again “Show that there is still at least a drop of wolf honor left in you and admit that it was you who conspired with the lions! It was you who stood next to my sister at the gates that day and made it easy for our enemies to invade our Kingdom that day! It was you who allowed children to be killed, women to be raped and so many of us to be tortured in their dungeons! You’re the reason Hannah was almost dying in that bed, unable to wake up!"
Deborah even tried to open her mouth to say something, but the shock ended any words she could have formulated, while Iron just continued, his tone increasingly full of hatred and pain.
"Every day, I have to control the urge to tear apart my own skin, to get this off me! And do you really think this last year was enough to punish you? Nothing I can do to you will come close to the pain you made this kingdom feel, Deborah!”
As had happened a year ago, Deborah remained static, just staring at Iron, until the burn flowing from her eyes and staining her face made her part her lips.
“So... That's the reason...?” If he hadn't been so close, she would certainly have collapsed to her knees on the floor “That's why you locked me in this place, made me suffer through rejection and slept with my cousin?”
“Don’t you dare play the victim! The guards told me they saw someone with red hair talking to Hannah before she fell from the guard tower. They saw this person use magic that could only be performed by a follower of the God of Discord! Someone who has no connection with the Goddess... Not even a wolf spirit.” His disdainful tone managed to gnaw at her a little deeper “Maybe that's why the Goddess never allowed you to transform. She knows what kind of person is unworthy of receiving this blessing. And don't you dare keep pretending to cry! I will never allow myself to be fooled by your act of purity again! I've had enough of all the mistakes that the heat of mating forced me to make in your bed, over the last year! Do it! Admit your sin and beg for the mercy that none of those lions showed for your people!”
“I can't admit guilt that I don't have.” Her tears continued to fall, but Deborah kept her voice steady “This pack never treated me like one of you, but it still never even crossed my mind to do something like that. But what's the point in saying I'm innocent, right? You didn't even think to question me about this, before you tried to destroy me from the inside out. In the end, the reason is exactly what I imagined. You never really loved me, not even enough to hesitate for a moment before using me to take out the hate you feel.”
“I never loved you?” One of his fists slammed against the wall, the claws making a loud growl as they pierced the stone “Do you have any idea what would have happened if I had revealed to the pack that it was you who tried to destroy them? Your body would have been torn to pieces slowly, until there was nothing left! You would have been killed and I could only watch...” Gradually, his eyes dropped to her neck, the blood pounding through her veins as Deborah realized what he was thinking.
No! He couldn't kill her! Not there, not after she had regained her will to live, after months of thinking about ending that nightmare herself.
Not now that she had something truly precious to protect.
“Please, Iron...” she found herself begging, as one day she would have begged for the version of Iron that she once loved “Please, no...”
A part of her hadn't expected her desperation to have any effect on him. But little by little, that bloodlust disappeared from his face and, for just an instant, Deborah had the distinct impression that she was looking at her Iron again, the man she wanted to marry and start a family with. The male her body still yearned for and her mating mark burned.
However, in the next second, he released her, so abruptly that she almost fell.
“If what you want is to continue with all of this, then so be it.” He growled, his tone harsh and his eyes cold “From tomorrow onwards, you will become Evangeline’s servant. I'm sure she'll have a lot of fun giving you all the worst tasks possible. And, don’t forget, when I return from my visit to the borders in two days, I hope I don’t hear another word from the maids about you trying to kill yourself without food.” Iron ordered, turning his back to her “That's a death too easy for someone as despicable as you.”
Watching him walk away, Deborah took a moment to catch her breath and keep her head straight, even after everything she had discovered. More than ever, keeping her feet on the ground and thinking clearly was what she needed.
Yes, she would go back to eating and staying healthy from then on. Not for him, but for the wolf who had truly given her a reason to live.
The baby she was carrying in her womb.
Deborah stood completely still for a moment, trying to organize her mind and prepare herself for what was to come, instead of panicking. Unfortunately, however, this also gave Iron enough time to pull the window up, breaking the pure steel locks that held it in place. And, in the next instant, without Deborah being able to do anything to stop it, that man was already inside her children's room, staring at her as if she had pierced his chest and ripped out his heart.“You… You gave birth to cubs…” he mumbled, his voice sounding strangled as he looked around at the toys strewn across the floor and the beds with colorful sheets “Our cubs!”“No. My cubs.” Deborah rolled her eyes, focusing only on the destroyed window to avoid his gaze “And, thanks. Now my children will spend the night getting drafty and probably catching a cold…”“I saw them!” Iron growled, stepping closer to her as if ready to grab her arm “I saw their faces, especially the eyes of that little girl… My daughter…” he murm
“Oh, my sweet Goddess…” Dawn gasped, her body dropping towards the floor as they found themselves in front of the door to their family’s apartment, the hallways around them thankfully empty “I’ll never get used to this teleportation thing.”“Yeah, I guess so do I…” Deborah had to summon all her strength to hold her friend in place, even though her head was spinning like she was about to pass out “It always… Sucks the life out of me. But, hey, are you okay?”“I’m the one who should be asking you this…” Dawn lamented, staring at her with a mix of concern and pity “I mean, it seems like with each generation of my family our wolves go more dormant, so I’ll never really know what it’s like, but my father always says the feeling of finding your fated mate is overwhelming. I hate the idea that bastard almost let a pack of mad wolves burn you to death and now…”“Now my wolf still keeps me tied to him?” she laughed humorlessly “Don’t worry. He made sure to replace every good memory I had with r
The cold night air hit Deborah’s face like a slap when they finally reached the outside of the club. But, ironically, she felt like this was exactly what she needed. The smell of only humans, the modern streets around her, the night filled with the lights and sounds of the city. This was the human land. Her land. She was no longer part of the pack. She had nothing to fear, even if Iron was here now.She stood with her back to him, staring at the waning moon in the sky and waiting for him to start talking, but nothing happened. Iron remained where he was, the weight of his gaze on her back pricking her skin like needles. It was so ironic that, when she was still the shame of the pack, the girl who didn't have a wolf inside her, the attraction she felt for Iron seemed so much more genuine. Because it came from her heart. Now, all her wolf wanted to do was curl up around him and mate, but Deborah couldn't wait for this conversation to be over and to be able to put as much distance between
The club was everything Deborah had imagined it would be: hot, loud, and with a strong smell of booze that made her keen sense of smell twitch. The loud music seemed to make the floor vibrate, and with every step she took deeper into the dancing crowd and flashing lights, she could feel a new pair of eyes turning in her direction.“Hey, honey.” a man spoke nearby, his voice slurred from the alcohol “Are you free? I’d love to burn myself in a little flame like you…”“I think maybe we shouldn’t have invited Deborah. She’s stealing all the guys’ attention for herself.” Beth said, a smile on her face, but her voice more acidic than even she intended.“At least try to hide your jealousy, Beth.” Dawn rolled her eyes, seeming to be shouting at the top of her lungs to make herself heard “I’m disappointed in you. Is that really the kind of guy you want, with that kind of bad pick-up line?”“I’m not being jealous…” Dawn’s friend whined, pouting “I’m just saying… It’s hard enough to compete with
Deborah knew perfectly well when she was in a dream. She had learned that the hard way, after five years of dreams just like this one. Night after night, she found herself in that exact spot, sitting in that glade in the moonlight, with nothing else to do but stand there and stare at the wolf that had never stopped secretly tormenting her, despite the distance.Iron.It was always like that in those dreams: they would stand in front of each other, with only a few feet separating them, but they could never touch. As if there was an invisible barrier between them, preventing Deborah from getting closer or even away from him. All she could do was stand there, staring at him, until she woke up. He couldn't speak, though. Something about the determined expression he wore sometimes gave Deborah the distinct impression that he tried, but never succeeded. Which was a good thing. She didn't need any more memories of the past. His face was enough and, if she could choose, she would forget even
Hello, everyone! First of all, I would like to apologize to everyone who has been waiting for updates on this story for almost a year. My personal life has been hectic lately and, because I have been short on time, I chose to focus on my other story (Revenge with my Ex-Fiancé's Billionaire Brother) which was already halfway through and had readers waiting for an ending. However, now that story is finished and I could finally start updating The Lycan King's Unforgivable Mistake! ^^Again, I apologize to everyone who has waited so long for this story. For now, I will only be posting one chapter per day, but I hope to increase that over time, especially since I plan for this story to be a little shorter than the others I have here on the platform.Thank you so much to everyone who is reading this and still choosing to give this story a chance, despite the delay!Let's finally start Deborah's story! See you tomorrow with another chapter!
