“Good,” Lady Mona went on. “I’m begging… no, I am telling you that if you did something to him, you have to undo it right now,” she said. “Or I swear to the Moon Goddess, I’ll—“

“You’ll what?” Kylan growled. “Run to the mountains and beg them to heal him?”

Lady Mona licked her lips uncomfortably as a frown appeared on the king’s face. He tapped his finger on his chin as if he were in deep thought.

“Neither I nor my people did this,” Kylan said firmly. “And I won’t take the blame for something I didn’t do.”

I had a proud moment when I heard him finally stand up for himself. I knew he carried immense guilt over what happened to Kayden and tried to cope by bottling everything up whenever it involved Lady Mona, but this was not okay.

Even Lady Mona seemed shocked by him. Kylan’s jaw locked, and the king’s favorite mistress trembled with fury. It lasted until the King finally clasped his hands together to break the silence.

“Wonderful!” he said. “Now that we know the Crown Prince di

VioletAs we rushed through the halls of the forbidden east wing, Kylan moved so fast I could barely keep up with him.I glanced around, noticing the guards stationed at every corner, and quickly grasped the seriousness of the situation. My fingers nervously fidgeted as I turned my gaze elsewhere, and they landed on Kylan’s back. The moment he had heard something was wrong with Kayden, something had shifted in him. There had been this look in his eyes I couldn’t quite place. He seemed almost…worried, and just stormed out without saying another word.My stomach twisted.I was worried too because I couldn’t help but think…did we do this? The thought made me nauseous. Had something we changed in the past caused this?I wondered if Kylan was thinking the same thing, if perhaps the tension in his shoulders was guilt showing. Kayden certainly wasn’t an angel, and I knew I had to stop him, no matter what, but I didn’t want him to die.Did that even make sense?I wasn’t even sure if Kylan wan

VioletNate let out the deepest sigh I had ever heard from him.It sounded heavy and complicated. I wasn’t sure whether he was sighing because he had been waiting for someone to ask him that question without beating around the bush, or because Kylan had overstepped by asking him.I lifted my head and immediately looked at Kylan, giving him a look. Why would you bring it up now?Kylan noticed and darted his eyes away as if he hadn’t asked anything. It was almost like a child trying to hide because he knew he had poked something sensitive.“If you don’t want to tell,” Kylan muttered. “I understand—““The truth is that I’m not ready to stop,” Nate said, cutting him off. “I want to stop. I should stop. But I’m not ready to yet.”Kylan and I both lifted a brow at the exact same time, our eyes meeting for a split second before snapping back to him. Nate was actually talking, and it wasn’t because of a box. It was because he wanted to.“What can I do to make you stop?” Kylan asked.Nate’s ha

VioletStart by talking…My lips curled as I turned my head to Kylan. We shared a look for a split second before he lowered his head, shoulders tense.I knew we shared the same thoughts. This was different compared to when Chrystal died. We hadn’t approached him right away. We waited and stayed quiet because we thought that was what he needed. But he hadn’t waited for even a second and was right here, comforting me.“What’s on your mind?” Nate asked gently. “You don’t have to carry it alone. You can tell me.”His eyes shifted briefly to Kylan. “Us,” he corrected.A lump formed in my throat as I thought of how to begin. They were there too. They had seen everything. The little girl, my parents, the choices I made that had led to this.Yet both of them were waiting to hear me, and I appreciated it.“I can’t stop thinking about her,” I sighed, my head still resting against Nate’s. My eyes drifted to the ceiling. Somehow, it made talking about it a bit easier.Neither of them asked furthe

VioletI closed the heavy doors behind me, entering the bedroom.Everything went quiet for just a split second before I got interrupted by the sound of my uneven breaths. I had been crying too hard for too long and didn’t know how to stop.I pressed my back against the door in an attempt to steady my breath, but it didn’t help. Nothing did.The tears kept coming anyway. My head hurt, my heart felt like it had been ripped open, and I didn’t know what to do anymore.I had watched my parents die, just stood there and let it happen.“No,” I sobbed. No matter how many times I tried to breathe through it, the same thought kept crashing back into me, over and over again. I had made so many mistakes before. Some bigger than the others, but I could live with most of them. But this? Trusting Baelor? This one had cost Mom and Dad their lives.I paced back and forth, my hands curled into fists as another sob broke free. I covered my mouth, trying to shut down the sobs when a voice broke through.

VioletAelius lowered his gaze. “You will stay with your uncle, and he will raise you among the people. Your people.”The people of the common land…“We will always be connected, and I will always think of you, but you are better off with him,” he said. “This is my way of protecting you.”Little Violet gave him a weak nod. I sucked in a sharp breath as I studied his face, trying to decide if I was perhaps imagining things. Were his eyes…wet? He seemed to be on the verge of tears and on the verge of fully breaking. Aelius caught my gaze and cleared his throat. “We don’t have all day,” he said coldly.I nodded and reached out, placing my hand gently on Little Dylan’s head. I hadn’t noticed the tears spilling from his eyes until Trinity wiped them away. He was awake too and had heard everything. And unlike Little Violet, he wanted to forget.“I want you to forget that this day ever happened,” I said softly, my thumb brushing his head. “I want you to remember to be brave, kind, and stubbo
