Maximus POV.

The man standing before me was old , with wrinkles etched deeply into his weathered face. His hair was white, with streaks of silver running through it, and his thin frame gave him the appearance of someone who had endured many hardships.

But it was his scar that drew my attention. It ran the length of his face, from his temple down to his jawline, and looked like it had been inflicted by a sword. It was a fresh wound, still pink and swollen, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of battle he had been in.

"My men were about to shoot him .

"No, wait!" Ava quickly interjected. "Don't shoot!"

"Why not?" asked one of my men, sensing the tension in the air.

Turning to face the man we had cornered, Ava approached him with caution. "Mr. Jacobs?" she asked tentatively.

The man looked up at her, fear etched in his features. "Yes," he said.
