Vincenzo's POV
“Wait a minute,” I say, trying to process what may have transpired, “You mean, you didn't find any other body at the scene?” I ask Detective James, my voice laced with unbelief as I squint.
“Just what I said earlier,” Detective James said, ambling close to me to have a look at the body, “if you ask me, I think this was planned because everyone involved ran off, their main aim as to kill your father, maybe someone put a bounty on your Dad or maybe they had a different plan altogether, after their Job was done they zoomed off, I tried to look into the CCTV at the area where the accident took place, but at the time of this accident, they were off, this could only mean that this accident was sponsored by an influential person, but the question is who is it?” Detective James narrated.
I saw sense in his explanation, with each emphasis, I could only wonder who wanted my father dead so bad, I was not one to cry, but my heart was currently constricting in my chest, I let out a small laugh, pressing my chin, something I do when I'm angry, and my men will know that it was going to be a bad day in the Dante household.
“Thomas, Thomas, Thomas,” I said sarcastically, my tone dangerous and menacing, “How would you mess with Dante's? You worked with us for so many years and yet you allied with an enemy to kill my father? I'm sorry, but I'll treat you and your family like my offenders the moment I lay my eyes on you,” I said to myself, audibly, that everyone in the room would hear me.
Then I looked at James who had a solemn expression on his face I knew he would be trembling but that's none of my concern, you can't feel comfortable around me, it's against my policies unless I want you to, “I do have an enemy in mind, but I'm not sure it's him, I mean, a man at my father's level would have enemies flocking all over the place, it could be anyone, but one Rodriguez is my main suspect for now, he has tried killing me before,” I scoffed, “but I ate his men alive,” I say, with a sinister smile.
I saw the shocked look on Detective James' face before he masked it again, “Okay, Rodriguez, what would you have me do? Should call him up and investigate him? Or do you have anything in mind?” Detective James asked, not wanting to conclude for me.
“No you don't have to investigate him, he is not in hiding, but I have to be sure it's him, just keep up with the investigation we need to fish out Thomas quickly so he can tell us who is the Master minder of my father's death,” I tell Detective James as we are talking, the Diener walks in and my men quickly hide their guns not to create any suspicions, not like she would do anything but for the sake of the Dante reputation.
Only a few people knew this side of us, to the Media and blogs, we were successful businessmen. It took us a great amount of money to hide our dirty part from the Media when some people discovered, and the ones who snitched on us got killed instantly.
No one messes with the Dantes and goes Scott-free.
As I head for the door I look back at the lady who's trying to clean up my father's body, “When you're done, send his body to my house,” I say and she nods in obedience.
The Mafia world can be very crazy, they can even steal his body and make sure he never has a burial, that's why I want it under my watch in my villa.
“So, are you going to see where the accident took place, I'm sure by now the car hasn't been moved yet,” Detective James asked.
“Of course yes, maybe I might find something meaningful,” I replied.
I walk out of the ward majestically, my men closely following behind me, the sound of my footsteps resounding in the hallway as we head out.
Detective James follows us to the place where our cars are parked, one of my men opens the door for me, and I beckon Detective James to enter from the other end, we head out of the hospital and Detective James directs my driver to the place where the accident took place, a lonely road part surrounded by farms.
Soon I see two damaged cars by the roadside, and I don't need a soothsayer to tell me this was the accident that killed my father, I see the customized plate number of the car he went out with earlier that day.
Immediately the car stops I step out, to take close observations of the accident, I see the bloodstains in the back seats, and I know it's my father's blood because he always sat at the back.
I looked at the driver's side and there was no trace of blood, only the shattered glass of the window was all that was on the chairs.
I took my time and looked around the car and then I went to the truck that was close to the damaged car, I looked into the truck and nothing valuable was inside.
“Did you and your crew see anything in this scene to trace at least the owner of the truck? Maybe we could begin from there,” I shrugged, getting down from the truck, and walking out of the scene raising the yellow barrier tape over my head.
“Nothing, except your father's phone,” Detective James said bringing out a phone that was covered in blood that was put in a transparent bag, “ I wonder why they didn't take it, it kind of makes the whole thing confusing, because they would have taken it if they wanted, they ensured to cover their tracks properly,” Detective James reasoned.
“Let's say they didn't take it so they won't be traced, smart work isn't it ?"I said.
Hello my readers, thanks for coming this far, I appreciate you taking your time to read my book, you won't regret it, please I'll appreciate you comments, it will help me a lot. For clarity sake the people working under the Don can be refered to as soldiers or 'men'.
Vincenzo's POV “Why do you ask that?” I stop in my tracks, going back to her; I take a seat beside her. “Because I want to be sure you're doing things because you want it, not because you want to please me,” she said, I see tears run down her cheeks. I instinctively used my thumb to wipe them off, “Hey don't say that, I'm pleasing you, yes, but I want this, why wait longer? Why wait for another year? I want to make you mine. I hope you're happy with that. You said you wanted a future with me in it, have you changed your mind now?” I hold up her chin so I can see her face. “No, I still want a future with you, I just get scared sometimes you know,” she gives me a weak smile. I open my arms and embrace her, she still sobs silently, her shoulders shaking beneath my hold. “You don't have to worry about anything, I got you, nothing will happen to you, okay, I'll always protect you,” I assure her, stroking her hair that's balanced under my chin softly. Whenever I assure her that I'll
Vincenzo's POV Violet tugged the hem of my shirt slightly to get my attention and I tilted to look at her. “What is it?” I asked, creasing my brow as I noticed the faint discomfort on her face, the last time I checked she was clapping at the performance of one of the guest artists. “I want to use the restroom,” She says, leaning close to my ear. I used my hands to give the guard behind me a sign to lean forward, he understood the sign and leaned close. “Take her to the convenience,” I say to him with a fixed voice, he nodded and escorted Violet and they followed a close exit. Once Violet and the guards were out of sight I took my gaze back to the lady speaking on stage “So we just have a few things on our list….” She says scanning through the small long card she is holding, she looks back up, “And we will come to a close for today's meeting,” she says looking with a beam. The words she says catches my attention for a moment but after a few minutes they started sounding like dis
Chapter 129Violet's POV My left fingers intertwined in Vincenzo's hands as we drove to the event place, Vincenzo had kissed the back of my hand one million times. He does it absentmindedly because his eyes are on the road, my eyes are fixed on him but his eyes are focused somewhere else, looking out the window like he is thinking of something, I wonder what he might be thinking of, I guess it has to do with me because he subconsciously kisses my hand like I'm going to run away. After watching him for a while I decided to break the eerie silence.“Vincenzo,” I called him and he shook slightly, I think I guessed right, he quivered like he was pulled back from a train of intense thoughts. If I'm not mistaken I see an obvious sign of worry in his expression, maybe something else but that's what I think.“Yes….” He muttered in a low and almost inaudible voice, looking into my eyes with his baby gray eyes, for a moment I locked my gaze on him, and I reached to touch his chin, my blue eyes
Violet's POV “Hello, my Dear,” the perky lady rises from her seat, immediately she sets her eyes on me, and opens her arms to hug me.I'm quite taken aback by her strange humor but I manage to hide my discomfort as she engulfs me in a warm hug.“Oh my goodness, YOU. ARE. SO. BEAUTIFUL.” she says with a hint of admiration after disengaging from the hug, her eyes checking me out from head to toe as she holds my upper arm with both hands. Her aura is friendly and welcoming but I can't bring myself to just trust or like her because she's friendly. I guess I've developed trust issues for strangers after the incident with the detective. The lady is like two inches taller than me, she has doll-like green eyes, her round smooth face with faint freckles looks like she goes to the spa every weekend, she is a red-hair blonde, her hair is well trimmed on the edges and they drop equally above her shoulders, she has tan skin, moderate double D’s like me likewise her hips, her short pants gives me a
Violet's POV I stared at my phone screen helplessly as I lay on my bed. I couldn't help the feeling of being ignored by Vincenzo, I don't even know if that's the right word to use. Why isn't he taking my calls? This is the tenth time in a row in the last 5 minutes that I called him and he hasn't picked up one call. I know he wouldn't ignore me on purpose but I'm just worried when he doesn't take my calls, is it normal? Or am I worrying too much? I can't help the sense of abandonment that simmers into my mind when I don't get to speak to him when I want to, Maybe that's how I'm wired.I exhale deeply, dropping the phone to the side as I lay on my bed, looking above me, watching the high ceiling, every column and corner of it, the magnitude compared to that of my old room at home, its apparent white color, gleaming above me.I picked up my phone from my side again and clutched it tightly to my chest. I let out another breath. I just needed to ease my mind. All I wanted was to talk to V
Violet's POV I help Mrs Maria. and the other maids with the cleaning, that's one of the things I do to assist the maids and they show gratitude for my support to them. I take up the part of cleaning the kitchen floors while the other maids take up cleaning the dishes and the other jobs in the house. While I did my own portion, my thoughts raced back to last night, my moments with Vincenzo and I smiled, I remember how happy Mrs Maria and the maids were very happy when they saw the ring on my finger, Mrs Maria was so ecstatic, she kept hugging and congratulating me and I wished this happiness never ends. This was not the kind of engagement I envisioned for myself, I wanted an engagement party where close friends and family gather to celebrate me and whoever I was engaged to, but the grim truth is that with the situation of things my happiness is the most luxurious thing I won that I should put first before my fantasy.According to Vincenzo last night, all we need is us. From now on I wo
