The Sicilian sun poured through the stained-glass windows of the Cathedral of Palermo like molten gold, casting colorful patterns across the ancient stone floor. Elena Vitale stood at the altar in a cloud of white silk and lace, her heart hammering against her ribs. The dress was a masterpiece—fitted bodice embroidered with delicate pearls, a long train that whispered against the marble, and a veil that softened the world into a dream. Today was supposed to be the day that sealed peace between the Vitale and Rossi families.

Today was supposed to save her.

Marco Rossi waited beside her, tall and sharp in his tailored black suit, a smug smile playing on his lips. He didn’t love her neither did she love him. This was business. Her father’s stern gaze from the front pew reminded her of that with every breath. Smile, figlia (daughter). This is your duty.

The priest’s voice droned on in Latin, the words blurring together. Elena’s bouquet of white roses trembled slightly in her gloved hands. She focused on the scent of incense and lilies, on the weight of the diamond ring about to bind her to a man she barely knew. Freedom had never been an option for a mafia princess. At Marco was young. At least he wasn’t cruel… or so she’d been told.least

A sharp crack shattered the sacred hush.

Elena flinched. Another crack—then chaos.

Gunfire erupted from the back of the cathedral like thunder. Screams tore through the air. Guests dove for cover, pews overturned, and the beautiful melody of the organ dissolved into panic. Elena spun toward the noise, her veil whipping across her face.

Armed men in dark suits stormed down the aisle with military precision, weapons raised. Bullets ripped into the crowd. Her father roared orders, drawing his own gun, but it was too late. Marco shoved her behind him, his face twisted in fury.

“Vitale traitors!” someone shouted.

One man moved like death itself—tall, broad-shouldered, lethal grace in every step. A black mask hid his face as he raised his pistol with calm precision and fired once.

Marco’s head snapped back and blood splattered across Elena’s white gown, hot and wet, staining the pristine silk crimson. He crumpled at her feet, eyes wide and lifeless.

“No!” Elena screamed, dropping to her knees beside him. Her bouquet scattered across the bloody floor. Hands grabbed her arms, hauling her up, but she fought wildly, silk tearing. “Papa! Help me!”

Her father was firing back, surrounded by his men, but the attackers were legit professionals.

The masked man reached her in three strides. Strong arms banded around her waist like steel, lifting her off the ground as if she weighed nothing. Elena kicked and screamed, her veil tangling around them both.

“Let me go! Who the hell are you?!”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he threw her over his broad shoulder like a sack of flour, one arm locked across the backs of her thighs. The world inverted. Blood rushed to her head. She pounded her fists against his back, but it was like hitting marble.

“Enzo!” one of the unmasked attackers shouted, his face grim and focused. “We’ve got her. Move!”

Enzo. The name hit her like another bullet. Lorenzo Moretti. The devil of Sicily. The man whose name made grown dons check their shadows. Her family’s greatest enemy.

Bullets whistled past them as he carried her down the side aisle toward a shattered side door. Shards of colored glass crunched under his boots. Elena twisted, catching a glimpse of her father’s horrified face before another barrage of gunfire forced him down.

“Papa!” she cried, voice breaking.

Enzo’s grip tightened. “Quiet, sposa.”

The word—bride—dripped with dark mockery.

Outside, the bright Sicilian afternoon blinded her. A black armored SUV waited at the curb, engine roaring. Enzo dumped her into the backseat none too gently, climbing in after her, then slamming the doors shut. Tires screeched as the vehicle shot forward, weaving through narrow Palermo streets.

Elena scrambled across the leather, pressing herself against the opposite door. Her wedding dress was ruined—blood-soaked, torn at the shoulder, pearls scattered like fallen tears. She yanked the veil off, breathing hard.

“You killed him,” she spat, voice shaking with rage and terror. “You slaughtered everyone—”

“Not everyone,” Enzo replied coolly. He pulled off his mask, revealing a face that belonged in nightmares and forbidden dreams. Devilishly handsome, with sharp, aristocratic features, piercing dark eyes, and perfectly tousled black hair that fell across his forehead. A face carved by the gods themselves—if the gods dealt in sin and power.

He looked at her with a mischievous look in his eyes.

“You were supposed to be a widow in five minutes,” he continued, voice low and controlled. “The alliance dies with Marco Rossi. Consider yourself lucky I changed my mind.”

“Lucky?” Elena laughed bitterly, tears burning her eyes. She lunged for the door handle, but it was locked. “My family will hunt you down. They’ll burn your empire to the ground.”

Enzo leaned back, watching her with unnerving calm. A faint, dangerously attractive smirk touched his lips. “They can try. But right now, mia sposa, you’re mine. Leverage. Insurance.” His gaze drifted slowly over her blood-stained dress, lingering just long enough to make heat crawl up her neck despite everything. “And far more beautiful than the photographs suggested.”

Elena’s stomach twisted. Fear, fury… and something dangerously close to awareness. She was alone in a car with the most dangerous and devastatingly handsome man in Sicily, wearing a dead man’s blood on her wedding gown, racing toward an unknown fate.

The SUV sped toward the hills outside the city, the glittering Mediterranean shrinking in the distance. Enzo’s unmasked men were silent and alert in the front seats. He never took his eyes off her.

Elena lifted her chin, refusing to cower. “If you think I’ll break easily, you picked the wrong bride.”

Enzo’s smirk deepened, dark and promising. “We’ll see about that.”

The vehicle climbed higher into the rugged cliffs, taking her farther and farther from everything she knew. Her old life was over. A new nightmare, one wrapped in dangerous temptation had just begun.

Over a week later,The chaos didn’t knock politely. It kicked the door down with bullets and explosions.Enzo Moretti stood on the upper balcony of the cliffside villa, phone pressed to his ear, his voice a low, lethal growl. “I don’t give a fuck what it costs, Rafael. Hit every Rossi warehouse we know about. Burn them to the ground. They want a war? I’ll give them a fucking massacre.”Below him, the glittering Mediterranean stretched endlessly, mocking the chaos about to unfold. He had barely slept since the first attack. Elena’s face kept flashing in his mind. Defiant, beautiful, and now a target painted in bright red by both the Rossis and quite possibly her own father.Inside the villa, Elena tried to lose herself in the art studio Enzo had prepared for her. The scent of oil paint and turpentine filled the sunlit room, but her hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Every distant engine sound made her flinch. She was no longer just a kidnapped bride. She was a symbol. A trophy. A traitor in

Enzo stood on the upper balcony the next morning, phone pressed to his ear, listening to Rafael’s update with a darkening expression.“The Rossis are mobilizing faster than expected,” Rafael said. “They’re not just coming for blood, they’re spreading word that Elena helped set up the hit at the wedding. The Vitale is staying suspiciously quiet. We think he might be playing both sides.”“Fuck them,” Enzo growled. “Double the patrols. If any Rossi bastard gets within a kilometer of this villa, put a bullet in his skull. No warnings.”He ended the call and gripped the railing hard. The war was escalating, and Elena was now public enemy number one in their eyes. Keeping her here was no longer just desire, it was necessary for her survival.Downstairs in the sunlit living area, Elena was trying to distract herself with a sketchpad when the front doors opened. High heels clicked across the marble floors with familiar confidence.A tall, stunning brunette in a short, tight, over revealing re

The gunfire finally stopped shortly after sunset. Enzo Moretti stood in the security room, arms crossed, reviewing the footage with cold satisfaction. Two Rossi vehicles destroyed. Three of their men dead. His own suffered only minor injuries. The message had been sent: the Moretti territory was impenetrable, and Elena was untouchable.“Clean it up,” he ordered Rafael, his right-hand man. “Send the bodies back with a warning. Next time, I won’t be so merciful.”Rafael nodded sharply. “Consider it done, boss.”Enzo rolled his shoulders, tension still coiled tight in his muscles. The kiss with Elena burned in his memory—the fire, the anger, the way she had kissed him back before biting him. No woman had ever challenged him like that. It was addictive. Inciting. When he finally went looking for her, he found her exactly where he had left her, sitting on a sofa in the main hall, arms wrapped around her knees. She looked exhausted but still unbroken.“It’s over,” he said quietly. “For toni

Enzo Moretti stood in his private office overlooking the cliffs, a glass of aged whiskey in hand. The morning meeting had gone exactly as expected. The syndicate were furious about the Rossi retaliation already brewing, but they were loyal. Fear and respect kept them in line. That was how he maintained power.Yet his mind kept drifting to her.Elena Vitale. She was one hell of a lady.He had watched the security feeds earlier. She had spent the last hour pacing the garden terrace like a caged lioness, beautiful and defiant even in simple clothes. The bandage on her hand was a reminder of how fragile this situation was. One wrong move and the delicate balance could shatter.“Boss,” Marco said from the doorway. “We’ve got movement. Three Rossi cars spotted on the coastal road. They’re heading this way. Fast. Looks like they’re testing our defenses.”Enzo’s jaw tightened. “They’re getting bold. How many men?”“Enough to cause problems if they breach the outer perimeter.” Marco hesitated.

Elena woke to the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs and the faint cry of seagulls. For a blissful second, she forgot where she was. Then reality crashed down harder than the sea below. She touched her wrists where his fingers had gripped her the night before. The skin wasn’t bruised, but she could still feel the phantom heat of his touch. "Get it together", she scolded herself. "He’s the enemy."A knock sounded at the door. The same housekeeper—Rosa, she had learned last night—entered with a breakfast tray and a small first-aid kit.“Signor noticed you cut your hand during the struggle yesterday,” Rosa said gently. “He asked me to bring this. He’s waiting for you on the lower terrace when you’re ready.”Elena glanced at her palm. A shallow cut from the shattered glass in the cathedral had reopened slightly during her shower. She hadn’t even noticed.“I can handle it myself,” she muttered. But Rosa simply smiled and left.Elena ate the fresh fruit, yogurt, and strong espresso

She stood under the scalding spray of the shower until the water ran clear. She scrubbed viciously at her skin, watching Marco’s blood swirl down the drain. The dress lay in a heap on the bathroom floor like a discarded ghost. When she finally stepped out, a stack of clothes waited on the bed. Soft black leggings, a silk blouse the color of midnight, and simple underwear that somehow fit perfectly. She wondered how he guessed her size so accurately. She dressed quickly, braiding her damp hair over one shoulder. The terrace doors were still open, letting in the salty breeze and the distant roar of waves. For one wild moment, she considered climbing down the cliffs. Then she remembered the guards and the sheer drop. That was sucide.A soft knock sounded before the door unlocked. The same middle-aged woman from earlier entered with a silver tray.“Signor Moretti (Sir Morretti) requests your presence for dinner on the terrace,” she said politely, setting the tray down. “He suggests you ea
