LOGINTheoden's POV
First, wait for the little lady of Draven to wake up and let her know what's happening. Second, let her work for me, as that's the only way to be close.
She was an heiress to what the Draven had left, so I'd use that to my advantage. She must be gullible after all.
"Why do you sound like you detest her? Isn't it a good thing grandfather smiled before he died? Or are you jealous?" My wolf asked.
I clenched my jaw. He shouldn't ask me those unnecessary questions. Why did my grandfather's dying words include a girl of another family?
Rufus returned to my office and slid the burial poster on my table. My eyes tarried on it before I nodded. He would keep it on the gate; my grandfather had wanted that and kept a poster printed and ready.
He said he wanted his enemies to breathe a sigh of relief when they'd see that he was dead.
But what they wouldn't know would be that his death marked the beginning of all their troubles because his one and only grandson still walked their earth.
"Yes? You can get out now."
Rufus raised his head. "What about the girl? You said you had hit her an hour ago. Is she okay now? Should we take her to the hospital?"
That had escaped my mind. I waved dismissively. "She will get better. She's a ranked wolf after all." Another reason why I wouldn't mind her company here. I noticed Rufus's surprised expression but ignored it if it would be concerning the girl.
"After my grandfather's burial, arrange to go to the Draven. Let it be tomorrow so that old man isn't hunting me. We need to settle everything with her step family and get her out finally."
I noticed the small smirk on Rufus's face before he left. I sighed. My old man couldn't encourage me to keep the family's legacy of terror but instead, he brought a new member into the family.
"Greta, let's go." I sprang up from my seat the moment I sensed another young man. He paused, staring at space like a fish when I walked past him. He followed after.
"Boss, how did you know I was already there? This surprises me because you act a lot like my Alpha, but less creepy and you know what."
I hated when he compared me to his perverted abuser. I pulled the boy towards me to let some nannies walk past with trays. He never looked where he was going.
"We are going to investigate and question the thief of last night. You actually." I changed the topic.
His eyes darkened and he increased his pace. His eyes were less puffy from crying about grandfather's death so it was time to return to the usual.
That's the only thing that put him back on track – promise of violence. I didn't know if I should be encouraging that in a seventeen-year-old that had his identity stolen from him by a father figure, but that was the life he got as a second chance.
We arrived at the back of the Chang's mansion, our most recent makeshift base after Rufus replaced the owners.
The heirs were tied at the backyard with their cattle. Greta threw the door open and cackled when he saw them mixed up with their animals.
I could barely recognise the pompous Chinese man that caused a fight with my grandfather. "You're still alive?" I asked sarcastically, since he had acted like he'd die of shame last time.
I leaned on the wall, leaving Greta to go forward and handle him.
"You wish your old man was, don't you?" he hissed.
My brows creased but they straightened when Greta's fists landed squarely on his nose, breaking it and giving it a new shape.
I shook my head slightly. "You always manage to leave a sour taste in my mouth. Which other sour skill do you have, apart from stealing from me and trading young children from your country?"
His younger brother had tape over his mouth so his red eyes and tear-stained face were the only indication that he didn't enjoy his new residence.
"You know very well that it was you who broke the agreement." The man groaned, still feeling pain from Greta's punch. "My other businesses aren't your business."
I leaned down to be on the same eye level with the liar. "That's not how I remember it. You're supposed to get five million dollars from the contract, and only five. Why did we end up with twenty million instead of ninety-five? Did you get extra from selling the kids to the countries that we did business with?"
His teeth gritted and I smirked. His hair was pulled up and Greta's fists met his face, repeatedly, leaving a dent in his features. I watched his brother whimper as his older brother got beaten up.
"If you have a better explanation, I'd hear it." I told the younger brother.
His eyes narrowed at me, but his hateful gaze wouldn't do as much as a scratch to me. They only survived this long because I had been dealing with my grandfather's illness.
Now that the old man died, and pissed me off by putting me on babysitting duty, I'd be sure to take it out on each of them that owed me even a cent.
Greta finally let out a sigh after exhausting himself and the beaten, broken man looked like he had lost a bit of weight as he lay sprawled on the ground.
"So, if I let you live another hour, would I be getting the remaining seventy-five million? Or should I just go ahead and sell the remaining 65% of Chang Empire?"
The latter would be more profitable for me, but being in business with them after this wouldn't be bad either. He had his ways to get better profits. Also, I'd have to manage the new Chang Empire and I already had a lot on my plate.
His breathing slowed, so I stretched my 'kindness' and gave him time to catch his breath. "I will... I will... give back what I owe. Double it even... if you return all of Chang to me."
No can do. The other 35% were already up for sale to the highest bidder and that would be me. I just needed it to cause enough attention before I'd take it back.
"You don't give the options. I do. There's a third option and that's you dying here, your little brother becomes my new puppet in running the empire and returning my money. But of course, the empire lives so that's good, right?"
His face constricted and he folded his hands. His family would always be his weak point. I tsked, and strolled towards him.
"If you don't want that, Mister Chang. Pay up. You have twenty minutes and Greta here would let you use his secured phone to call anyone you need to. I know you have your secretary's number in your head so tell her to do the needful. Afterwards, I'll release you… when I feel like it."
He had no other objections and I left the backyard and the horrible stench it was filled with. Greta stayed behind for him to make his call. I dialled Rufus's number.
"It seems I'd not end up being the sole owner of the Chang empire so I have time on my hands." I sighed, as that weight lifted off my shoulder. "Bring the car around, and call them to have the girl in another."
Let's settle everything about that now.
"Um… I called recently and she's still not awake." Rufus replied.
My body went cold, and I switched my phone to the other hand. She was still passed out? I felt a growing panic rising from the pit of my stomach.
"Let's go back home."
Donna's POV I read through the new contract given to me. My eyes shifted to the little girl, staring at me. I didn't expect a child within the mafia, especially in one as tense as this. I looked back at the contract she had given me. It was identical to Contract 21 except I'd be the main receiver of this one, and not my father. Should I see it as simply changing autonomy? I knew Theoden could be sneaky. I rubbed my temples. Why did I bother overthinking? Theoden had no reason to secretly betray me. He already had a good cut, though I didn't know how much. I should still be aware of these things. Our last conversation sounded like he had my best interest in mind. I should give him more trust. "Pen, please?" I stretched my hand to the girl. Her fingers tightened around the pen. I knew that reaction all too well from teaching first grade during summer. This girl didn't like me. That was odd since we were meeting for the first time. There had been a knock on the door, a
Theoden’s POV I would be really busy for the next few days. There was a lot of underground work to be done in case her stepfamily tried to file a missing person report. They were not above being shameless even if she was a grown woman they had ordered around. "Tomorrow, get her lawyer to handle the will of the late father and what pertains to her company." I told Rufus, taking a sip of my coffee. "Bring them in." I could hear Hansel scratching the door impatiently. Rufus opened the door, and a dark-haired girl, gripping a cat by its stomach, shuffled inside quickly. I could never understand how that cat, Chin, was comfortably being held like that. After many checks, we confirmed he actually was. I slid my chair back, giving the little girl a chance to wedge herself between my thighs, saying nothing. As always. Chin left her hold and got on my table. I grabbed my glass of coffee from the edge before he got to it. A soft sigh left me. "Thank you, Rufus." He was still at t
Chapter Nine: Aware Theoden's POV My grandfather really pulled a number on me by letting this girl's safety be his dying wish. However, so far, I wasn't enjoying this. She was gritty enough to survive a hellhole for long, and used that grit to pass her judgment on them. She wouldn't be depending on us as much as I thought. In a way, that disappointed me a little. "Do you know anything about what he does for work? Or what we'd be doing to assist you?" It was fair that she wanted to start her path, but did she have any clue how tedious it would be? "The company is currently being run by your father's supervisor, whom we have contacted to keep it up until you're twenty-five." I answered, while checking my tab for emails. "Twenty-five?" She slapped the bed, and I looked up from my tab. "Why would you make that decision without informing me?" She wasn't offended that the decision was made, but that it was made without her consent. That meant she understood why it was ma
Donna's POV After leaving my house, I began to wonder what would happen next. I wouldn't mind being away from there till my step family were gone, but was it really alright for me to stay with Theoden? He was even yet to tell me what he gained from all these? Why were there two huge guards in suits seated with me at the back, while Rufus drove the car? None of them said a word to me. I was still elated at my revenge, but with the uncertainty ahead, I became quiet again. "Excuse me, sirs." I decided to break the silence. These guards jolted like little kids— I swear to the Moon Goddess. I paused what I wanted to say and gave them time to breathe. "Would I be spending the next week at your place?" "Wouldn't you like to?" I knew for sure they were good people so that wasn't a scary idea, however it couldn't be for free. Our parents were close but they couldn't just take me in when I still had a source of livelihood. "I don't mind paying all my expenses." I could pull out all
Donna's POV "You heard the lady. Begging would not suffice." Rufus told my stepmother. I doubted she wanted to beg, perhaps gaslight me for all the 'good' things she had done for me, when all those were essentials and done with my biological parents' money. "D-Donna-Belle is currently planning her marriage to a business partner of mine." My stepmother said. "How can I… I leave when such an important day in her life is coming?" That was what she could come up with? I was lost for words. Even despite everything, she still wanted to act shamelessly? Theoden glanced at me and I shook my head. He sighed. In disappointment, relief, or just for the sake of sighing? I didn't know. His expression had taken a straight state since I moved away from him. "And who is this business partner? Does she know she'd be getting married to him?" "She is about to sign the contract." Chris added. "So it isn't signed?" Chris grunted, and I resisted the urge to spit at his face. Did he really
Donna's POV "Chris, you bastard!! Come out here!!" My throat cracked at the end and I held my neck, gasping for breath while my eyes searched for any movement. Theoden turned to me but I looked away, hurrying upstairs. "Follow her." He said to a guard. He sounded amused. What's amusing about this? Did he know how much it meant to me? These jerks were trying to hide all evidence of the abuse I had to go through all these years? I couldn't fathom how shameless they could be. "Chris! Lilith!" I mentioned my stepmother's maiden name. She had never acted like a mother or anyone of respect to me. If my lawyer was finally within reach, then I could banish her out of my sight. I sighted the opened door of the backyard and heard voices. Wait, could it be what I thought it was? Today was Thanksgiving, wasn't it? At least for my stepmother's family. They usually hosted a small family party in the backyard. I smirked. They didn't actually dare to run away. "Who the fuck is yellin
