Night fell.

Alessio stood at the gate, his phone screen lighting up and going dark, over and over.

He’d called thirty times.

Every single one went straight to voicemail.

"Damn it!" He slammed his phone on the ground. The screen shattered.

Gianni got out of the car, his face just as dark. "Checked all the security footage. She got into a black sedan, but the plates were fake."

"Seven hours," Alessio's voice was a raw whisper. "She's never been gone this long."

He slapped himself, hard, across the

Marcella's POVBefore his hand could land, it was caught in a vice-like grip.Alessio's face was terrifyingly dark. He squeezed, and a sickening crack echoed in the room."AGHHH!" The man screamed as his wrist snapped."Gianni," Alessio said coldly, his voice devoid of all emotion.Gianni understood immediately. With a single look, two black-suited guards moved like shadows, instantly restraining both my foster father and Bianca."You can't touch me!" the man yelled, sweat pouring down his face. "I'm her foster father! When you found her, Bianca promised you'd let me live!"Those words made Alessio and Gianni freeze.Alessio whipped his head around, his eyes burning into Bianca. "Is that true?"Bianca's face was white. She stammered, unable to form words."SPEAK!" Alessio roared."Yes... it was me..." Bianca trembled. "I... I was afraid you'd kill him... I thought it was too cruel... He's my biological father, after all...""Cruel?" Alessio looked like he'd just heard the world's sicke

  • The Mafia Don’s Runaway Baby   Chapter 8

Marcella's POVThe Caribbean sun was warm.I sat on the beach, my easel set up, painting the seabirds. My belly was round and full now. The baby kicked every so often, a gentle reminder that he was there.Life was quiet here. So quiet, I'd almost forgotten the pain."Ma'am," the housekeeper's voice came from behind me, a little nervous. "You have visitors."I didn't turn around. I kept painting. "Tell them we're not receiving guests.""They say... they say they're your family."My paintbrush stopped.Family?I slowly turned my head. Two familiar figures were walking toward me.Alessio and Gianni. They found me.Alessio looked like hell. He was rail-thin, his face unshaven, his eyes sunken.Gianni looked just as bad, exhausted and hopeless. They stopped about thirty feet away, as if they were afraid to come any closer.Alessio's eyes were locked on my pregnant belly, his expression a storm of emotions."You..." His voice was a raw whisper. "The baby's... still here?"I set down my brush

  • The Mafia Don’s Runaway Baby   Chapter 7

Marcella's POVThe Caribbean sun filtered through the blinds, warming my skin.I gently stroked my growing belly as I sketched a seabird on the canvas."Miss Helena, your lunch is ready," the housekeeper said softly.Helena.My new name. My new life. This private island, a gift from my father, was a world away from everything. No one knew it existed.I spent my days painting, walking on the beach, listening to music, and talking to the baby in my womb. There was no betrayal here. No pain. Just me and my child. It's been a month. They've probably given up the search by now.---Meanwhile, in New York...A dark cloud hung over the Ricci estate.Alessio hadn't eaten a proper meal in a month. He was a shadow of his former self, thin and gaunt. His eyes were sunken, his face covered in stubble. The handsome, imposing Don was gone.Gianni didn't look much better. He had dark circles under his eyes like he'd been in a fight."Any news from Boston?" Alessio asked, his voice raspy."Nothing." G

Alessio turned on Gianni, his eyes bloodshot. "She's carrying our child! After everything we put her through!"Gianni's phone rang.He glanced at the caller ID and answered immediately."What is it?""Mr. Ricci," the voice on the other end was frantic. "We found her! Miss Hanson was in a car accident. She's at St. Mary's Hospital!"The phone slipped from Gianni's h

Back at the mansion, the silence was as heavy as a tomb.Alessio stood in the middle of the living room, staring at the shattered glass, his face dangerously dark.Gianni paced restlessly on the couch, glancing at the clock every few seconds."It's been three hours. Why isn't she back? She's not answering her phone..." His voice was strained. "She's never been out of touch this long."Alessio didn't answer, his eyes fixed on the front door.Bianca came downstairs, the bruises on her face still visible. She carried two glasses of whiskey. "Don't be like this," she said softly. "Have a drink. Relax. Marcella just needs time to cool off.""I quit drinking," Alessio said without turning around."Me too," Gianni's voice was just as cold.Bianca's smile froze. The two of them had never, ever refused her at the same time."Well... we can talk, then?" she tried again. "Like we used to...""Used to?" Alessio spun around, his eyes as sharp as knives. "You used to not put a pregnant woman under t

I woke up the next morning to a row of pills on the nightstand. And a note in Alessio's familiar handwriting:"Babe, remember to take your meds. I'm handling some work. I'll be back for dinner."I glanced at it and walked out of the room.I needed a trigger.Something that would give me a "reasonable" excuse to storm out in a rage, creating the window I needed to disappear for good. And Bianca was the perfect fuse.Laughter echoed from the living room downstairs.Bianca was wearing an expensive Chanel suit, chatting with a few of her socialite friends."You have no idea, for my eighteenth birthday, Gianni and Alessio threw me the most amazing party!" Bianca's voice was full of pride. "All of Manhattan's high society was there."Her friends oohed and aahed."And do you remember that necklace? The limited edition Tiffany one? Only three in the world!""And that couture gown, worth a million dollars!"Hearing my footsteps, Bianca turned. Seeing me coming down the stairs, a flash of malice
