ISABELL’S POV.

“You look so sexy with that look on your face.” He said before walking away.

I guess my facial expression was obvious enough.

I soon noticed a maid move closer to where I sat.

“Ma’am, please, this way.” She uttered politely using her index finger on her right hand to point towards the entrance of a hallway.

“Are you taking me to my room just as Matteo asked?”

“Yes, Ma.” She replied before bowing her head.

I stood up almost immediately and reached for my bag.

“You don't have to worry about carrying your bag, we are all here to help you.”

I looked at her and smiled.

“I can take care of myself and of course, my belongings as well.”

“These aren't my instructions but Mr. Matteo’s, ma’am.”

I just didn't argue with her anymore. I left the purse and just walked behind her.

Guards soon followed suit.

There were two by my right, two by my left, three right in front of me and I wondered how many were behind me.

I was too anxious to even turn and count.

The guards just shadowed m

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 48

Matteo's POV My father left me standing in the middle of the ballroom, surrounded by curious stares and whispered conversations. The confrontation with Vincenzo had drawn too much attention, had exposed tensions I should have kept hidden. But I couldn't bring myself to regret it. Not when he had been looking at Isabella like that, speaking about her with such casual disrespect.I grabbed a drink from a passing waiter, downing half of it in one swallow. The alcohol burned going down, but it helped clear some of the rage still clouding my thoughts. I needed to find Isabella, needed to make sure she was alright, needed to explain what had happened and why.But she was nowhere to be seen. I scanned the ballroom, the dance floor, the groups clustered near the bar. No emerald green dress. No familiar face turning to look for me.Why had she not returned from the bathroom?I was about to go searching when someone appeared directly in front of me, blocking my view of the rest of the roo

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 47

Isabella's POV I stared at Vincenzo for what felt like forever, my mind racing through possibilities. Had he heard my conversation with Aunt Carla? Had he seen her slip away? Was that why he was here, catching me alone in this corridor? But as I studied his expression, searching for any sign that he knew what had just transpired, I saw only surprise. Genuine surprise at finding me here, away from the party, standing in this empty hallway like I'd lost my way.He didn't know. He hadn't heard anything. The relief that flooded through me was almost dizzying."What are you doing out here all alone?" he repeated, moving closer.I forced my expression into something casual, unbothered. "What does it look like? I'm in the bathroom corridor. What else would I be doing?"His smirk widened. "Any number of things, actually. Maybe you left the party to please yourself somewhere private. Or maybe you got bored with all the congratulations and needed some fresh air. Or—" He let the sentence hang,

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 46

Isabella's POV We stood facing each other in the quiet corridor, the sounds of the party muted by distance and closed doors. My aunt looked exactly as she had at the café, disguised so well that anyone passing by would see nothing more than a member of the catering staff taking a brief break. But I saw her. I saw the woman who had raised me, who had shaped my entire understanding of the world, who had apparently been lying to me for years. And I saw the gun, still tucked beneath the cloth on her tray."What are you doing here?" The question came out harsher than I intended, but I was beyond caring about tone."I came to see my niece get engaged." Her voice was pleasant, conversational, as though this were a normal family gathering. "It's quite the event. Your Matteo certainly knows how to throw a party.""Don't." I stepped closer, keeping my voice low. "Don't stand there and pretend this is a social call. You have a gun. You're in disguise. What are you really doing here?""Exactly

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 45

Matteo's POV Isabella looked absolutely stunning tonight. The emerald dress fitted her perfectly, the colour bringing out her eyes in a way that made it hard for me to look away. Every time she moved, every time she smiled, I found myself forgetting where I was, forgetting the performance we were both supposed to be giving. But I wasn't the only one watching her.Vincenzo's eyes had been on Isabella all evening, tracking her movements across the ballroom, following her when she danced, assessing her with that calculating look I had learned to hate over the years. He had brought one of his girlfriends—a model whose name I couldn't remember, beautiful in the empty way his women always were. She hung on his arm for the first hour, trying desperately to keep his attention, but he barely looked at her. His focus was entirely on Isabella. The way he looked at her made something dark and possessive coil in my chest. It was the same look he had given every other woman I had shown interest

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 44

Isabella's POV My heart stopped. Everything around me seemed to fade into background noise as I stared at my aunt across the hallway. She was dressed in black trousers and a white shirt—the standard uniform for catering staff with her hair pulled back severely and glasses perched on her nose. If I hadn't been looking directly at her, if I hadn't memorized every feature of her face years ago, I might have walked right past without recognizing her.But I did recognize her. And I recognized the gun tucked beneath the tray she carried, partially concealed by a white cloth napkin."What was she doing here? What was she planning?"My mind raced through possibilities, each one worse than the last. "Was she here to kill the don? To shoot Matteo? To cause some scene that would expose me as a plant in the Romano family?"I needed to talk to her and find out what she was planning before she did something that would destroy everything. But before I could move, before I could even take a step

  • The Mafia King’s Bride; He’s danger. She’s revenge    Chapter 43

Isabella's POV Matteo stepped closer, closing the distance between us. His hand came up to cup my face, his thumb tracing along my cheekbone with a gentleness that made my breath catch."I can't wait to marry you," he murmured, his voice low and sincere in a way that made my heart skip. "I know this isn't how either of us expected things to happen, but I—" He paused, searching for words. "I'm glad it's you, Isabella."Before I could respond, before I could process what he had just said, his lips were on mine. The kiss was different from the ones before. Not urgent or demanding, but slow and deliberate, as though he was savouring every moment. His other hand found the small of my back, pulling me closer until our bodies were pressed together, until I could feel his heartbeat against my chest.I should have pulled away and remembered all the reasons why this was dangerous, why I couldn't let myself feel what I was feeling, why I should hate him in the more instead of falling into the
