MasukSerena’s POV
It was a Tuesday morning and I was helping Maria in the kitchen when my phone rang. I rinsed my hands and rushed to pick up the phone when I glanced at the screen and froze staring at Dr. Kane’s name.
“Aren't you going to answer that?” She asked, and I slid the answer button.
I took a deep breath before answering. “Hello?”
“Good morning, miss Serena,” he responded. “The client has gone through your file and he is ready for the surrogacy to commence. We can schedule the procedure this week if that's fine with you.”
I had completely forgotten about it. Somehow, there was a sting of regret resting in my heart, but there was no turning back. “This week?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied. “We need to start as early as possible. How does tomorrow sound?”
I held my breath, and calmed my nerves. I already took the money. What more could I say?
I looked around the kitchen, and smiled at Maria as she hummed softly while chopping the vegetables.
“Yes,” I said finally. “Tomorrow is fine.”
“Good,” Dr. Kane said. “My driver will pick you up at nine.”
The line went dead and I returned to making breakfast with Maria.
~
The next morning, the driver arrived exactly on time. He was dressed in a black suit, silent except for the polite greeting he gave me. I got into the car, counting the time as we drove.
At the hospital, Dr. Kane greeted me gently yet in the same composed way he always did. “You’re right on time. We’ll begin with a few standard tests before the insemination process.”
I nodded like a fool and stayed quiet. The nurses helped me change into the hospital robe and I lay back in the chair, staring at the white ceiling lights. My hands felt cold, but I squeezed tighter to keep them warm.
“This will be quick,” Dr. Kane said calmly. “Just relax and breathe normally.”
I obeyed Dr. Kane feeling no pain, only the sense of what was happening.
Luckily I wasn't a virgin. I had my first boyfriend in college and he broke up with me on my graduation night. Worse, he cheated with my roommate.
It was over before I knew it. I sighed, holding back the tears.
“You did well,” Dr. Kane said as I sat up. “Now, we wait.”
That was the problem. Waiting was harder than I thought and every flutter in my stomach made me wonder if I was already pregnant. I guessed at every small ache. I had to distract myself with books, cooking and cleaning anything I could find, but it didn't do anything to ease the thought.
Two weeks later, I got the call from Dr. Kane. “Congratulations. The procedure was successful.”
My breath caught. “So I’m…”i couldn't finish the words.
“Yes,” he interrupted gently. “You’re pregnant.”
The words didn’t feel real, but they sank in slowly. The call dropped and I was left staring at my hands. I had a life growing inside me.
My daydream was cut short with the doorbell ringing. Maria answered it and I heard her gasp loudly.
I ran to her, scared for her when I saw him. Standing tall in my living room was the most handsome man I had ever seen.
His dark wavy hair graces his chiseled face perfectly. The dark suit fitted on his olive skin, and those greenish blue eyes stared into my soul like they owed me.
I froze, watching him walk forward. The few open buttons of his silky shirt revealed his toned chest and I gulped.
Who. The. Hell. Was. He?
My eyes traced the tattoo on his left chest and he caught my eyes wandering.
“You must be Serena Vale,” he said, looking at me from top to bottom.
“Y..yes,” I stuttered. I made a mental note to buy a bigger lock for the gate after he leaves.
“Who are you?” I muttered, holding onto Maria.
“I’m Adrian,” he said boldly. “Your child's father.”
My what?
“Did he just say?…” Maria asked, looking at me. “Are you pregnant?”
I didn't know how to answer her. I hadn't told her about it yet.
“Yes, she is. She's carrying my child,” he announced. How I wished he would shut the hell up!
“What do you want?” I hissed. “Wasn't there supposed to be confidentiality?”
“There is,” he answered, and looked at Maria. “Isn't there?”
Maria kept quiet and he smiled coldly. “You’ll be moving into my home until the end of your pregnancy.”
My ears rang and I blinked. What did he just say?
“You want me to move in?” I asked, shocked. “I…I don't understand. I was told I could…”
“It was stated in the contract. Did you not read it?” He asked, and I froze. I hadn't. I was in so much hurry that I signed whatever I was asked to.
“Are you ready to leave?”
“No,” I spat. “I can take care of myself just fine. Please, leave.”
“Fiesty. I like that.” He smirked, and glanced at his watch then back at me. “It didn't say you could argue. You're carrying my child and you're now my responsibility. You leave with me and that's final.”
My heart thundered as he glared at me. It wasn't harsh but I felt the cold hit my body. Something told me I was talking to the devil.
“So…” he said, his deep voice echoing in my head. “Will you come willingly? Or do I take you by force?”
I stared at him with my mouth open
Oh lord. What sort of a man was he?
Serena's POV I stared at Adrian with wide eyes as he began to pace, waiting for Jack to retrieve the videos. Jack was still fiddling around inside the car. After a while, he came back out with a laptop in hand. He walked straight to Adrian and handed the laptop over."I've downloaded most of the videos for today's events. I'll go through them to see who it was that bumped into her." Jack explained.Adrian snatched the laptop from his hands, instead."Not you, you're fired." He barked.Jack looked at him in confusion. He didn't seem to understand what was going. Then, his gaze slid to me and he finally understood."Dur, I...please...you....""I said you're fired!" Adrian cut in. "Since you let an inexperienced pregnant girl get past you, that .means you're shut at security and if I leave you around, who knows, she may eventually get kidnapped.""No, sir. That would never happen." Jack said."Get the hell out of my sight." Adrian retorted. There was no point arguing., so he turned to l
Serena's POV "What are you not telling me? I demanded.Gabriel chuckled nervously and stood up."I just don't want you to get yourself in trouble. Adrian is the head of the Mafia family in Sicily which means he's a very dangerous man. He's got eyes everywhere and will not be happy to find you looking in his business. So I don't think you should keep sniffing around." He explained.I exhaled in frustration."But if he knows something about my father's death, then I want to know it too." I protested."You father died in a car crash, Serena. It was an accident. I don't want you putting silly ideas in your head."I looked down and but my lip trying to hold back the tears that were starting to pool in my eyes."I just don't want you to get hurt." He said softly and tapped my back gently, calming me down.I sniffed and stood rubbing my palms against my jeans."I should go." I stated.Gabriel's face scrunched up in confusion"But you just got here." He whined. "Stay. I was just about to hav
Serena's POV By the time I took a shower and changed out of Adrian's shirt, I felt better about the events of last night and this morning.I also noticed I felt somewhat nauseous but I chalked it up to the pregnancy and ate a lot of mints to tamp it down.It was almost noon so I decided to go sit in the library and read. The minute I opened the door, it felt like I had teleported into a different universe. There were guards everywhere and I started to wonder why Adrian had installed all of them inside the house.I shut the door softly behind me and stepped out."Ma'am..." A voice cut through my subconscious and I whipped around to see who it was.Another guard. He had been stationed outside my door."What is it!" I asked. He cleared his throat and looked at me nervously."I'm sorry, but you're not allowed to go anywhere without permission." He said.I scoffed in disbelief."You're kidding, right?" I asked. He just stared at me.Angrily, I turned around and stormed down the stairs."M
Serena's POV Adrian's eyes moved between Bianca and I. Her hands were still tangled in my hair. Her nails digging in my scalp like she wanted to rip me apart. I refused to cry and give her the satisfaction of seeing her break me.The moment Adrian's voice interrupted, Bianca's grip loosened. Fear crossed her face, but she masked it immediately. Then, she let me go like I had burnt off her flesh."Let. Her. Go." Adrian demanded.Every word dropped slowly with venomous poison dripping out of them.I felt Bianca shiver at his tone. The fear she was trying to hide was now very evident. She laughed nervously."We.....we were just goofing around. That's all." She said "It's nothing serious"Her tone was laced with uncertaintyAdrian moved so fast, I didn’t even see it coming. One second he was behind us, the next his hand wrapped around Bianca’s wrist, yanking her away from me so hard she stumbled forward and almost fell"You don't ever fucking touch her! Am I clear?" He growled in a low t
Serena’s POV I walked back to my room on shaky legs with his scent wrapping all around me. It felt like my senses were on hyper alert. I stared at the ceiling for the next few hours, tossing and turning. Sleep was not forthcoming. I groaned and got up again, pacing the length of my room."What the hell just happened?" I asked myselfWhy was my body reacting this way to a man I barely liked? I shook my head trying to shake off the naughty thoughts running through them."Fucking hell" I sighed and went out of the room going straight to the kitchen I pulled out a bottle of water and drank it, hoping to drown the butterflies flickering in my belly.Next, I pulled out a giant tub of ice cream and plopped myself on the sofa to watch some TV"Hey," a voice said from the doorway.I yelped and turned around, Luca was standing in the doorway with a smile.I rubbed at my chest trying to calm my racing heart. I thought I was alone."Hey," I greeted back."Mind if I join you?" He asked.I shook
Serena’s POVAs I shut the door, my back stayed glued to the door. There was a tension in the air that I couldn’t ignore. The scent of him was everywhere—a dangerous mix of musk and citrus, and a dash of spirit. My eyes locked on his and my heart did a million backflips. He was leaning over his desk, and his body resembled a work of art. My eyes drew immediately to the tattoo from his neck covering his left arm…and that just made him even more sexy. And then my eyes travelled to his rock hard abs, and his v-line was carved to perfection and his—"You should be sleeping." he said, drawing my eyes away from his body. I cleared my throat, "I couldn't sleep," I whispered, hoping that my drooling wasn’t so obvious. "Come here." As he said those words, a current surges through me. He didn’t bark, he didn’t shout. His voice was so calm, yet it caused a storm to rage inside my belly.Against the loud voice screaming in my head that listening to him was a grave mistake, I walked toward
Serena’s POV "Everybody get down!" someone screamed. My feet were frozen in place, immobilized in fear. The screams were deafening, but I could not move. Another bang sliced through the atmosphere. My body began to tremble. Was it a gun shot? Or a bomb?? I didn't have the time to wonder. Adria
Adrian’s POV"The perimeter was breached at the northern docks," the voice on the other end was distorted, a digital mask hiding the identity of one of my most trusted informants.“How much of the shipment stolen?” "They didn't steal anything. They just... looked. It’s a message, boss. Someone is
Adrian’s POV: For the first time in my life, I saw red everywhere and it wasn't blood. I watched as the dark-haired girl in front of me spilled out her guts. I didn't understand what exactly she ate, but it was messy.I watched in shock for like 2 minutes before I got myself. I opened the separati
Pain seared through my heart as I packed my clothes. Maria helped me get the other things ready and he just stood by the door, his arms folded, his eyes fixed on me, as if protecting something that could slip off anytime soon.I wish I could just kill him already. He's such a pain in the ass.“Hurr
