The rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor filled the air inside the VIP hospital room. Amora lay unconscious on the hospital bed, her head wrapped in bandages. A mask covered her nose and mouth, oxygen being supplied through a tube connected to a tank.

Sitting beside her, holding her hand tightly, was none other than her biological father, Alejandro Volker.

Though Alejandro’s eyes looked drained and weary, he hadn’t taken them off Amora for a second. His hands stayed wrapped around hers, refusing to let go. He didn’t even flinch at the sound of the door opening—until footsteps approached.
