[Darcy]

I was evil, but I didn't expect people to retaliate against me in such a cruel way. I knew I deserved to die for some of the crimes I had committed. But why did it have to be someone I had never hurt?

I had no problem dying at the hands of David, Heather, and Cullen. I had committed unforgivable crimes against them. But it wasn’t them who sent the hitman to take my life. Must I live in fear forever?

Why did these evil people come when I was determined to live a better life? I would have accepted it if they had done it when I was arrogant. I would have gladly died to atone for my sins if no child depended on me for his life and future.

I woke up that morning with a hoarse voice. I had no idea what had happened while I was asleep since I couldn’t remember it. I sighed as I looked at the side of the bed. Sinclair slept in my room but didn’t touch me. Then, what happened to my voice?

“Where are you going?” Scott asked as he saw me pulling a large suitcase.

“Moving,” I replied brie

I had no idea what was so serious about my question. But I pushed that thought aside and enjoyed Sinclair's pampering touch. His habit of not saying anything when we had intercourse no longer surprised me.I liked compliments. Sweet words stimulated me to enjoy our activities in bed even more. But with Sinclair, I didn't need any of that. He had his way of satisfying me with his silent and cold demeanor.“We need to consider another narrative to explain Dashiell's presence,” Sinclair said.I caught my breath after having intimacy with him while staring at the ceiling. I turned to him. “There’s no better story than that.”“Keane will hate Dashiell if he’s old enough to understand. I don’t want the two brothers to hurt each other,” he explained.“I don’t want to lie by saying someone set us up. Also, I don’t want to use the scenario that we were drunk and did it just one night,” I refused.“Saying someone set us up would make Keane or Dashiell seek revenge on whoever did it. Drunk scena

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   141|Trust No One

I never imagined that my visit to Sinclair's office would open my eyes so wide to the business, and most importantly, to him. The man trusted no one but himself. The tragedy that befell his family had deeply wounded him.No wonder he hated me so much. He even used my most precious possession to seek revenge. Without a second thought, he brought a living being into the world without considering its feelings.“I investigate everyone close to my employees. I don’t want to pay people who work for my enemies.” Sinclair’s explanation echoed in my ears.I didn’t bother to find out who was close to Vicky and Lydia. I didn’t even know Whitney before. But I trusted them to be my partners in building a new business. Gosh. I didn’t learn from my mistakes leading Bailey Incorporation and Brand New Corporation.Cullen trusted Whitney. But what if that woman did something evil to me to avenge what I did to the child she had raised since she was little? I had no idea where that woman came from or who

[Darcy]I forced myself to open my eyes when I heard the voice of a baby crying. It was dark around me, but I didn't turn on the light. I knew where the closet was. The light turned on automatically, making it easier for me to grab some clothes and a coat.I slowly opened the bedroom door and closed it. I hurried to Keane's room. His loud voice could wake Dashiell. So, I closed the door quickly. Olivia sighed with relief when she saw me.“Keane, it’s Mommy. Be quiet, okay, sweetie? Are you hungry?” I picked him up and sat on the couch. After positioning him on my lap, I breastfed him. The baby quieted down. I turned to Olivia and glanced at the connecting door. The young woman needed rest. Keane wouldn't want to leave me. He didn't need his nanny.I woke up lying on the couch. My son was in his crib. He was giggling while playing with his stuffed toy. I sat up and stretched my body. Faintly, I heard a dog barking in the distance.I glanced at the wall clock. Sinclair was about to leave

[Sinclair]Keane's return changed Darcy. She spoke to me frankly. Her demeanor was more relaxed. I didn't see the usual doubt or worry on her face. She even initiated an intimate encounter with me.The change was both a relief and a cause for concern. That woman was easily swayed when something triggered her. Darcy agreed to marry me after I promised to protect her parents in prison, but the truth about Dashiell made her want to leave me.The same thing could happen again. Keane staying with us changed her mind about divorce. If something terrible made her angry with me, would she file for divorce? What would happen to me and Dashiell if Darcy and Keane left our lives?“Important things? What important things do we need to discuss?” Darcy asked.“Did Cullen tell you if he left a will?” I looked at her.“We never talked about wills. We were too young to think about death,” Darcy said. “Besides, Cullen would have told me if he made one.”“My people found the will in the safe in your hou

I carefully washed my hair and down to my feet in the bathroom. Although I didn't do any special skin or facial treatments, I was satisfied with my reflection in the mirror. I went into the dressing room and chose one of the evening gowns. The servants did their job well. They moved my belongings from my old room without changing their positions. It made it easier for me to find the clothes, bags, or shoes I needed.Looking at Sinclair’s clothes, I lifted his watch to open the door to the secret room. I entered the room and saw my photos. I was joyful during my teenage years. That happiness diminished when I entered my early twenties. At that age, I discovered there was an issue with my ovaries. I didn’t dare tell anyone. I put on a good act in front of everyone, but the photographer captured me at my most vulnerable moment. Why did Sinclair print my picture in such a large size? He hated me because he suspected I was involved in his brother’s death. Then, why did he provide a special

[Darcy]I ignored Scott and Rocco's protesting glances. I knew I risked our lives by traveling with my son. But I couldn't leave him in his room. Keane wouldn't sleep. The boy knew I would be somewhere during the day.Canceling my dinner plans with Vicky and Lydia wasn't an option either. I had to meet with them if I wanted to open the inn soon. I’d go crazy if I didn’t keep myself busy, especially since I’d quit my job at the club. When I arrived at the restaurant, I saw Vicky crossing the street. Thankfully, I wasn’t late. I got out of the car and waved at her. My former secretary squealed when she saw the baby in my arms.“Keane!” Vicky greeted him. “Do you still remember me? Aunt Vick! Oh my. It’s been so long, and you’re this big.” She stroked my son’s hair.“We shouldn’t talk here,” I suggested.“Oh. Come on. Let’s go inside,” Vicky said.We entered the restaurant, which wasn’t crowded. The waiter led us to a corner of the room, away from the window. Rocco and Scott sat beside u
