“The boss is not going to like this,” Scott said, looking at the place we had come to.

“You need to get a little creative, Scott. I'm tired of hearing the same lines,” I stated.

“Better think about it before getting out of the car,” he suggested. “Boss won't like you adding enemies at a crucial time.”

“I'm not making enemies. I'm teaching my enemies a lesson,” I corrected.

I didn't wait for Scott to open the car door. I approached the entrance of an office building. A car was waiting at the door. The vehicle I was after. The man I'd been waiting for came out of the building just in time.

“Hi, Fred,” I greeted him.

The man turned. His eyes rounded. “Darcy?” He looked around us. “What are you doing here? Are you with Frida?”

Five years of marriage and those loving eyes hadn't changed. The dark brown-haired man thought I had come with his wife. That ungrateful woman was fortunate to have such a good man.

“Today is Monday. Her schedule is to be with the person on this envelope.” I handed

Hearing him mention Tristan didn't remind me of anyone. I tried to remember someone at school or college with that name, but no face came to mind.I would have remembered it if I had ever bullied him. My friends would mention our victim's name. And if his brother died because of me, there was no way I could forget that event. Tristan wasn't on my victim list.“I knew you'd deny it. Everyone knows you're a liar!” Sinclair looked at me with fiery eyes.“Sin... you hurt me. P-please let me explain,” I begged. The grip of his hand blocked my breathing passage. I couldn't breathe through my nose or mouth. My chest felt hot. I tried to move his hand away from my neck, but all my efforts were in vain.“You have nothing to explain! My brother told the truth, and you lied!” Sinclair yelled.“Please... my baby needs me,” I sobbed.Sinclair's eyes softened. He looked down at his hands and suddenly let go of me. I breathed in slowly and coughed. My chest was hot and painful. I didn't dare take a

I sighed. There were security cameras in the hall. I couldn't break the rules without anyone finding out. I walked towards my room, but something upstairs caught my attention. Sinclair was coming down the stairs.I turned toward the front door. Strange. I didn't hear that man come home. How could he be in his bedroom? Was there another entrance? The man saw me. Sinclair came over and took my hand. He pulled something out of his pants pocket.“Oh.” I saw him put my engagement ring on my finger. “You've found it.”“Don't ever take this ring off again. Let people know you're married, but don't mention your husband's name.” Sinclair put my wedding band on. “Do you understand?”I was going to answer, but Sinclair kissed me. He took advantage of my parted lips to explore my mouth. His hand caressed my waist and stopped at my back. His other hand teased my chest before going up and holding my head.He kissed me hungrily, and his hand on my head prevented me from stopping the kiss. I didn't k

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   87|Good News

After weeks of living in hardship, that was the first good news I heard. I didn't mind paying for all my past crimes. It was a lesson I had to learn for causing so many people to suffer. However, the Creator still cared for me. I had a way out of the job that ruined my self-esteem and away from the people who almost killed me. Paying off the debt was my focus.“When can we meet with Channing to discuss this?” I asked.“I need to go through all these files before I conclude. How about we meet next week at the same time?” Mason offered.“That's too long,” I muttered.“If I finish before the scheduled time, I'll call you,” he promised.I didn't know much about the law. Mason seemed sincere and competent in his field. He wouldn't have delayed in dealing with my problem. After all, I wasn't his client. I was only the wife of one of his clients. I couldn't be selfish.“Alright. What about my son? Do you think I can win custody of him?” I asked expectantly.“What do you mean? Children are th

[Darcy]I didn't understand. Sinclair said we had our own bedrooms, but he slept in my bed each night. I didn't mind because he could do whatever he wanted in his house. Oddly, I wasn't free to enter the rest of the house.Sinclair didn't have breakfast with me on Sundays. He wasn't in the dining room on Monday morning, either. Lionel didn't say anything, and I didn't ask. Was it possible that he was in another part of the house that I couldn't enter? What was upstairs and behind the back door? I didn't have time to check the yard, but I saw a wall with a padlocked fence. The maid opened the door in the morning so Sinclair could exercise and locked it after he finished.Sinclair didn't sleep with me after the accident, not because he didn't want to. So, he couldn't have a secret lover to fulfill his biological needs other than me. That was evident by his arousal last night.“Good morning, Darcy,” the warden greeted me. “Do you want to see your mother?”“Yes,” I replied.“It's not her

Lionel and the servants worked hard to get the yard ready for Halloween. They decorated it with pumpkins in creepy expressions. The lights inside made the faces even scarier.Little pumpkins and white ghosts with various expressions were on the right and left of the porch steps. Bats hanging from the ceiling made the atmosphere of the haunted house even more real. The scene contrasted with the unchanged mood of the house.I glanced at my son's room before entering mine. Dashiell wouldn't have anything terrible happened to him. I swore we would live in peace and out of trouble after I avenged my family.I closed the door to my bedroom, and my legs were suddenly unsteady. I leaned against the door, and my body slid to the floor. My heart was pounding, tightening my chest. I took a deep breath, but tears welled up.I clenched my fists, trying to control myself. But my efforts failed. I couldn't stop the sobs coming out of my mouth. I gave up and cried silently. God. Dashiell and I almost

[Sinclair]There was no caption on the last picture, so I looked at the other documents. It was a proof of transfer from an account to Joaquin's. I didn't recognize the name of the account holder. Wesley provided the answer in another file. The account belonged to Bridget Channing's friend. So, she told Joaquin to kidnap Ivy. “I don't understand. What does Bridget have to do with Ivy?” I asked.“Look at the date on the video screenshot,” Wesley said.I complied. October fifteenth, a few days before my mother's death. If Ivy was in Joaquin's hands, did he use the girl to threaten her parents? My heart pounded. No way. Poppy loved my mom very much.“Ivy was held for two weeks. Joaquin released her after your mother died. You might think a mother would do that to protect her daughter. But Poppy showed no remorse after provoking Paige as a failed mother,” Wesley explained.“You don't know Poppy,” I argued.“Poppy didn't call the police or involve her bodyguards to help her daughter. What

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   83|The Best Performance

My heart pounded loudly, deafening my ears. My chest felt tight as I struggled to breathe. I needed that job. If they got mad at me, Sinclair would force me to quit. I couldn't let that happen. The audience cheered as I entered the stage. They cheered in support, not to insult or curse me. It was an astonishing sight. What was going on? Why weren't they mocking me?My mask was useless because they recognized me, but I didn't open it. Archie could have been in the audience and waiting to photograph me. The mask was my trademark. I couldn't perform without it.“Darcy!!! Put on your best performance! Shake your body, baby!” they shouted.I avoided the audience's eyes and focused on their foreheads. Although many cheered, supporting my performance, I knew some were disgusted. I'd never been in a public place in skimpy clothes. We performed well. Neither my colleagues nor I made mistakes. We moved in harmony. The music was almost over, making my heart beat rapidly. I had a bad feeling beca

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   82|The Last Practice

[Darcy]Reporters were near the entrance. News media vehicles were lined up neatly by the roadside. They weren't just at the front door but also at the back door. Employees looked at them ruefully as they entered the club.I took a deep breath and exhaled. The public knew I worked at a nightclub. There was no point in hiding or pretending. I glanced at my watch. My team would practice before the show. I couldn't wait until the reporters left.I put on a hat, sunglasses, and a mask to hide my face. I wouldn't let them settle for my photos or videos. Scott opened the door as his colleagues cleared a path for me from the car to the back door.“Darcy, a quick interview, please,” they asked. "Is it true you became a stripper? Have you been working here since Brand New Corporation went bankrupt? Why don't you look for another job? Did your late husband leave you no inheritance?"Scott shielded me as I passed them. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pushed the reporter away with his f
