LOGINReina’s POV
I got dressed in an hour like he said, a simple gown from the wardrobe. I stood in front of my room door, fidgeting with my hands until a guard came for me and led me to the garage. He opened the door to a Bentley, and I realized Rai was already in it. I tried to make myself invisible, but he actually paid me no attention this time, like I didn’t exist. Like there was no presence in his car. It felt relieving but weird at the same time. His eyes always met mine before. We rode in silence for what felt like about twenty minutes till the car stopped. He stepped out and I followed, wondering where we were. It was an open field with a serene environment… There were flowers and a little hue of nature. It felt peaceful. My mind relaxed immediately, breathing in the fresh air. I continued to look around till I found handguns in a carton. My heart sank. “Wipe that fear off your face now, Petalo… at least for now. We are practicing… in a shooting range.” My eyes found the targets immediately. I wondered for a second if he was going to use humans at all, but all I saw were targets. My fear started to vanish a little. Just then, a small white rabbit passed by me, stopping at a small patch of grass by my side. I unconsciously gasped, smiling before going to it, carrying it, forgetting in a minute my predicament. I carried it, stroking it. I had a thing for cute animals… rabbits especially. I had one as a child. I loved it so much till it died mysteriously. Now I realized maybe either Grace or Amara killed it because it brought me happiness. I cried so much when I saw its dead body, matted in blood. I was still smiling, stroking its soft body when I looked up, meeting Rai’s eyes. My body stiffened quickly, suddenly aware of him. He had this amused look on his face. I quickly dropped the animal, slowly walking back towards him. “Fascinating,” was all he said before he took eye protection and ear protection, placing them on me. He didn’t use any as he handed me a gun. My hands shivered as I held the strange, heavy, cold metal. It was the first time I’d ever held a gun. “Now shoot,” he said to me, startling me. I looked at him in confusion. He gestured with his head towards the targets. “Shoot, Petalo.” I looked at the gun in my hands, slightly shaking my head. I had no idea how. I looked back up at him, my heart pounding as my hands shook. I shook my head slightly. “What? You don’t know how to shoot?” he asked, looking down at me, while I wondered why he suddenly wanted me to learn how to shoot, just a few days after owning me. Did all his maids go through this too? “Well, we have to make you learn, Petalo. We don’t want you missing your real targets,” he said and moved behind me. Real targets? I swallowed. I felt his heat and hot breath behind my ear and body as I felt dizzy in his presence. He had that much effect on me. My hands started to sweat. He pulled me closer to him from behind as my heart picked up pace, then he slowly put his hands on mine, angling the gun towards the target. “You need to focus, Fiorita. Position your gun to the target.” My breath hitched with him so close to me as his breath fanned my neck. I felt a strange sensation. Our hands together gave me a sharp current that unexpectedly felt warm. He was like a shield. I felt his chest, which was surprisingly warm. His chest that harbored his cold, dead heart. “And when your target is in focus… you pull the trigger.” He pulled the trigger and I gasped from the force as I looked at the target. Bullseye. 10 points. I smiled at the accomplishment, then he stepped away, and I felt the absence of his presence immediately. I felt bare. “Now try it on your own,” he said, looking relaxed as he watched me. I stood positioned like he taught me, pointing the gun towards the target and angling it. I breathed in and out, steadying my racing heart. Then I shot. I squealed, seeing I got 8 points, outer ring. I squealed in excitement, forgetting myself as Rai watched me with an amused look before he started clapping. It brought me back to my senses. “Good job. You’re a fast learner,” he said, smirking. “Now for the main show…” A guard suddenly brought something forward, placing it on the target and tying it to steady it. It was white. And moving. My gun dropped from my hands in shock. No… Fear hit me as I realized what was on the target. The rabbit I carried a few minutes ago.Reina’s POV“Why the sudden change of attitude, hmm?” he said to me. “There’s your target, now… shoot. Just like you did just now.”No… No… I screamed inwardly, but all I did was shake my head violently as tears rolled down my cheeks. I looked at him, pleading.“No? You don’t want to shoot it? It’s a cute little animal, right?” he said and chuckled loudly.“Well, welcome to my world, Petalo. Those things don’t matter in my world. You have to understand that.”I looked at the monster in front of me. He had no empathy, no emotions. His eyes were void.“Shoot now! I hate waiting.” My chest tightened even more. He wasn’t asking. He never asked. He placed the gun in my hands again and nudged me forward.“Now.”I turned back to him, dropping the gun slowly as I met his eyes. I shook my head slowly, then brought my shaky hands forward and clasped them together, pleading…my fingers trembling so badly I could barely hold them still. He looked at my teary face, then slowly at my clasped hands.

Reina’s POVCorinne sighed and looked at me, giving a soft smile. I shook my head immediately, fear rising in my chest.No.No… I didn’t want to go anywhere, not again, not to him.One of them stepped forward and grabbed my arm. I gasped, trying to pull back, but he was too strong.“Move.”My feet dragged against the floor as they pulled me out of the room. My breathing became uneven again, panic slowly building inside me.Where were they taking me? Why?We walked through the long hallway again. Everything looked the same, big as usual and cold and empty, like a place with no soul… like him.My chest tightened. I already knew.I knew where they were taking me.Him.They stopped in front of a door and my heart dropped. One of them knocked once before opening it.And then…They pushed me in.I stumbled forward slightly, catching myself before I fell. The door shut behind me and the sound echoed loudly.I didn’t turn immediately. I didn’t want to.I didn’t want to see him again, but I coul
Reina’s POVAfter what felt like a few hours, the door opened. Corinne walked in, looking disturbed. I rubbed my eyes, climbing out of the bed.I quickly grabbed the paper and pen she had dropped on my table before she left and wrote…What happened?“I’m so sorry, Reina, but the Don wants you to serve dinner.”What?“Don’t worry… just go out, serve him. Don’t look at him… okay?” she said, worry clear on her face.I shook my head, saying no. I couldn’t face him, I couldn’t dare to stand in his presence without my legs getting weak and my heart beating fast. At the mere mention of his name, he already had that effect on me.“Go on, dear, we are left with no choice,” she told me, straightening my clothes and nudging me forward with a small smile.I walked slowly out, clenching my hands.I got to the kitchen and was immediately given food to serve. I held onto it tightly and made my way to the dining area.I felt his presence before I saw him.And when I did, I swallowed.Don’t look at hi
Reina’s POVCorinne led me to my new room in the maid’s quarters.“You’d stay here from now. I hope you like it.”I looked around. It was basic. A bed and a table. I nodded. My eyes were already heavy from crying.“Dear child… What's your name?” she said, holding my face gently.I gestured it to her, using ASL.“I’m sorry, my child… I never learnt,” she said softly. I sighed.“But you write, don’t you?”I slowly nodded as she brought out a pen and paper from her pocket.I took it and wrote my name down.“Reina… it’s a beautiful name. Maybe you could teach me ASL.”I smiled softly, nodding.“I have to go now. You stay here and rest.”I suddenly shook my head in fear.“No, Reina… he won’t hurt you if you stay here. You just came here, he’d have no issues.”Rai Mikailov didn’t look like one without issues.“Just rest here, okay? Shower and change your clothes. I’d call you if you need to do anything.”The way she spoke to me made me calm. If my mother was still alive, she would have been
Reina’s POVThe sudden noise of the door woke me up as it banged open. I sprang up in fear, trying to remember where I was till it all came rushing back.I was in the Podolskaya territory. Mikailov’s new property. I winced at the thought as two armed men gestured for me to step forward. When I did, they both dragged me.“Walk,” one of them said, leading me to wherever it was they were taking me.We walked for about seven minutes till we reached what seemed like another side of the mansion. It was like there were two mansions inside the fortress. We entered the living room, which seemed as big as my whole house back then. We continued walking till we got to the kitchen. They suddenly stopped, leaving me there immediately without a word or a glance. My eyes scanned around. There were a number of maids. Was I assigned to the kitchen? They all turned to look at me. Most of their faces were curious and pitiful. “Hey there… my name is Corinne,” an older woman with an apron came to me, smil
