I scrambled to my feet immediately, utterly embarrassed to be seen in that position. It made me feel like the slut I was sold to be.
I heard Keith’s deep growl, and I couldn’t tell what his feelings were.
“Jackie, what are you doing here?” Keith asked her disgruntledly.
He sounded disgusted.
“Really, Keith?” She asked him without flinching.
She didn’t seem to be moved by Keith’s harshness. It was as though she was used to it already.
“The least you could have done was knock,” Keith told her.
She glanced at me, but her eyes were hot with fire and rage, and it burned into my skin. I couldn’t even hold her gaze.
Jackie, as Keith referred to her, was strikingly beautiful. There was something about her that screamed power and class, and looking at her and Keith, they seemed like the perfect match.
A slice of jealousy cut through me instantly.
Gosh, I don’t even know who she is, and there is nothing going on between Keith and I, so why did I feel slightly jealous?
“We need to talk, Keith,” Jackie said, eventually taking her eyes away from me.
“Leave us,” Keith ordered.
For a second, I didn’t know who he was ordering out of the room. I thought it was Jackie because she was the intruder, but when Keith looked at me stiffly, I understood that it was me.
“What the fuck are you still standing here and staring at?” Jackie barked at me.
I dashed out of the room, more embarrassed than I had ever been.
Then I heard the door slam loudly.
I guessed it must have been Jackie. She seemed really hostile and upset, and it made me wonder why on earth she would be upset with me.
She didn’t know me and I didn’t know her either.
Anyway, curiosity didn’t make me leave. Instead, I glued my eyes to the door and eavesdropped on them.
“Who is she?” Jackie asked Keith tightly.
“That shouldn’t be any of your business, Jackie,” Keith responded.
She sounded like a jealous lover to me, especially from the way she glared at me. If Keith already had a lover, then what was he doing with me?
“He bought you as his sex slave, duh,” a voice in my head reminded me.
“We are business partners, and as such, your affairs concern me as well,” she stated.
“And the last time I checked, this is personal,” Keith said. “How does my personal life affect our business together?” He asked.
Okay, now I understood it; they were business partners, but from my point of view, it seemed as though Jackie saw Keith more than that.
Well, who wouldn’t?
Keith was handsome and well built, and he carried with him an air of masculinity and power, and judging from everything I had seen so far, he was wealthy.
“Who is she, Keith, and don’t tell me that what I saw was exactly what was about to happen before I came in?” She asked, insisting on the first question.
“Why are you here?” Keith asked, deliberately ignoring her question.
They were simply going back and forth, and it didn’t look like either of them was ready to surrender to the other.
“You shouldn’t be eavesdropping on them, Mia,” a voice in my head warned me. “If you get caught, you might be in a more dangerous situation than you already are.”
But I didn’t walk away.
Where would I go?
Keith merely commanded me to leave. He didn’t say where, and I couldn't see anyone around, so I held onto that as my excuse for eavesdropping. My mum had warned me several times about fixing my ears into other people’s business without being asked, and that it would land me in serious trouble someday, but I didn’t listen to her.
“You should be concentrating on escaping and not listening to a back and forth banter between two business partners,” the same voice told me.
Yes, I knew that I should be doing that, but somehow, I couldn’t move my feet away from the door.
“Why are you being secretive with me, huh?” Jackie asked Keith.
She was refusing to drop the issue that Keith obviously didn’t want to talk about. Even a blind and deaf man could tell that she was obsessed with Keith. I spent only a few minutes in her presence, but I could tell. She might be an alpha female, but she was terrible at hiding her feelings.
So how couldn’t Keith tell? Or maybe he was just feigning ignorance.
“I have never discussed my private business with you, Jackie,” Keith told her gruffly.
“She is not even your type!” Jackie said.
Instinctively, I looked down at myself and felt somewhat inadequate. This was the first time that anyone had ever made me feel this way.
“She is too young for you, Keith, and too bland. There is nothing special about her,” Jackie continued to insist, as though she was trying to force Keith into agreeing with her.
“Why are you here?” Keith asked instead, pretending he didn’t hear all that she had said.
“I have been calling you, Keith, and it seems as though you are allowing your ‘personal’ business to get in the way of our business,” Jackie said sourly.
“I have been busy,” Keith responded, almost sounding nonchalant. “What is this shout?” He asked.
“There have been some problems that require your urgent attention, and you know I wouldn’t have come all the way down here just to tell you about it if it wasn’t,” Jackie said.
I fastened my ear to the door, wanting desperately to hear them. I wanted to know what Keith was into. As far as I could tell, he was a stranger, and I couldn’t trust him. He bought me for an outrageous amount of money and killed a man in my presence, and now, I was in his residence. So I really needed to know.
Again, I should be focusing on fleeing, I knew that, but…
“Hey,” I heard a stern voice.
And I jumped in shock.
Standing in front of me was Cain, the man I saw earlier with Keith. He had obviously caught me eavesdropping as he cocked his eyebrow questioningly.
My heart pounded hard against my ribs.
I was in deep trouble!
KEITHI spent most of the time teaching the lads what they ought to know…what Saint should have taught them long before now.Again, I wondered what they had all been doing in the labor house all this time, but I didn’t let that bother me for too long.“There is no getting tired unless you are done with your tasks!” I told them all. “And lunch today is cancelled,” I informed them. Most of them murmured, especially the younger ones, but they couldn’t speak out. They knew that they wouldn’t dare.I got them so occupied that soon enough, they were hardly thinking of looking towards Mia’s direction, which was also good enough for me because that way, I could also concentrate fully on them.“I have my eyes on all of you,” I told them firmly. After spending hours teaching them, I assigned tasks to them, but that wasn’t all. I stayed right there and supervised everything. My eyes were on every single one of them.Saint should have done his job properly. I was upset with him, but right now, I
KEITHI stared deep into Mia’s eyes, searching for the truth, but her eyes were blank. Aside from the fear that resides in her eyes, they didn’t speak of anything else, so I couldn’t tell if she was lying or not.“Are you sure?” I asked.I was ready to get rid of Jackie if she was ever the reason Mia was like this, but Mia nodded.“I am, Keith,” she responded.I was still holding Mia’s chin up, and her lips were now dangerously close to mine, and as they trembled slightly, I felt the irresistible urge to kiss her, and I didn’t hesitate.Gently, slowly, and tenderly, I kissed Mia, and she didn’t turn away. She didn’t exactly give in immediately, but she didn’t refuse it.It wasn’t a deep or passionate kiss, like I had given her before; it was just a simple kiss on her lip, but a wave of desire rushed through me, threatening to spill out, and my cock sprung to life almost immediately. Mia was the only female who could arouse me instantaneously, or this quickly, and it was taking all m
KEITHAfter Jackie left, I went back to what I was doing, totally unbothered.I never knew that she had developed feelings for me, and what I told her was nothing but the absolute truth. Hopefully, it would kill whatever obsession or infatuation she had been harboring in a while now.About thirty minutes later, I decided to go to the labor house. There were a lot of things to be done there, and the lads still needed supervision.I opened my office door, and Mia jerked in fright, making me worried about her.“I thought we agreed to keep my office door open until I say otherwise?” I asked her.“I wasn’t the one who closed it,” she managed to respond.Mia’s voice was a little shaky, which confirmed my suspicion that she was afraid, and I wondered why. She also seemed uncomfortable.“It is your job as my personal assistant to keep it open,” I told her. “It was only normal for Jackie to have shut it when she left,” I added.Mia drew in breath fearfully, and I couldn’t tell if she was scare
JACKIE Never in my entire existence had I ever gotten my heart shattered in this manner, and worse, Keith wasn’t bluffing. He wasn’t joking. His words were deep and firm, and they sliced through my heart like a sharp blade. All my life, I had been waiting for Keith, desiring him, taking out every obstacle with the belief that someday soon, he would eventually see that I was the woman for him, only for him to say these words to me without flinching. He wouldn’t have been this way if Mia Atwoods hadn’t come into the picture, worse, the little bitch had gone to flush all her pills down the sink; the pills that were supposed to help me get rid of her.I was still reeling from the shock and raw disappointment of that when Keith threw this big blow at me, and it hit me square on the face. It was even more devastating that all this time I thought that I was being discreet, Keith had known all along. Tessa, when she was alive, had told me that Mia was a virgin.Did Keith fall in love with h
KEITHWith Mia’s demands, I was beginning to reconsider my stance on letting her work for me, especially after the question she asked me about my former secretary, but I didn’t expect the last words she just blurted out.“You did what?” I asked her, wanting to be sure that I had heard correctly.“I flushed all my pills down the sink,” she responded solemnly.“When did you do this?” I asked.“It was a mistake,” Mia said, almost sounding as though she was scared, and I wondered if she would soon begin to tremble.I didn’t want that.I didn’t want Mia to be scared of me, or to tremble in my presence, but at the same time, I also needed her to understand that I would also sound like this; stiff and gruff.Life hadn’t been fair to me in any way, and as a mafia, I had learned to become this tough. Softness was never taught to be a part of a mafia, so oftentimes, this was the only way I could communicate with her. I wasn’t like the boys she must have gone to college with. They were privilege
MIAWhen I heard loud knocks, I knew that it was Keith even before I peeped to check. The moment I saw that it was him in front of Jackie’s door, I went back to my bed. I didn’t want to care what he was doing in Jackie's room. I didn’t even want to think about it so that I wouldn’t get jealous, so I intentionally kept my ears and eyes closed.I recalled that some nights ago, I had seen a man running out of Jackie’s room at night. Now that Keith appeared, I wondered if it could have been Keith, but then again, Keith didn’t seem like the man who would be sneaking around. Besides, if he was sneaking around, he wouldn’t be knocking now, would he?“I don’t have a business with this, and I am not going to let it disrupt my sleep,” I told myself firmly. However, my mind drifted to Tommy. He didn’t tell me why he couldn’t take me to the cliff tonight, and a big part of me was curious to know. I had really wanted to, and being turned down, even though Tommy did so remorsefully, just sucked. O
