The garden became silent with just me staring at Diego’s unconscious body. The soft sound of crickets became louder, and the clouds darkened.

I took a few steps backwards, trying to catch my breath. Before I could gather my thoughts, shadows moved swiftly between the fences. Alex’s men appeared as if they had been waiting for the exact moment.

Their movements were silent, and none of them looked at me. Their eyes were focused on the task. Two of them lifted Diego’s body without stress, as if he had no weight.

The other man reached for my arm, and I followed him out of the garden. My feet felt so numb, and I couldn't say any word.

In minutes, I found myself in the backseat of the black SUV, and we were on the road before we knew it.

My mind was full; it was filled with guilt and hatred. The ride gradually became suffocating with each bump on the road and my body jolting.

I wrapped my arms tightly around me with goosebumps appearing on my skin. Soon, the car stopped and the massiv

Lillian hurried to the top of the stairs and slammed the bedroom door behind her. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly. She locked the door and pressed her back against it, sliding down until she sat on the floor with her knees to her chest. The image burnt behind her eyelids. Giorgio's lifeless eyes stared at the ceiling, and Alex standing over him looked calm and calculating. Her hands shook as she buried her face in them. The man whom she thought was a changed man. Whom she felt safe with just murdered someone.Tears rolled down her cheeks, soaking her palms. She had known Alex to be dangerous. From the moment they met: his ammunition, his bodyguards and the call.“Clean it up,” Alex ordered his men and went into the mansion. Life is going on as if nothing had happened. But everything had changed.A soft knock at the door made her flinch."Lillian." Alex's voice called out."Open the door."No.There was silence in the room. No Mercy LeftIt was midnight in the mansion. They no longer stayed at the hotel. Alex had ordered everyone to his mansion in Paris. A private mansion far from a residential area. The underground basement was dark and silent. The walls were cold, and the lights were dim. There was a strong smell of iron and damp concrete in the air. For Alex, that wasn't a place meant for mercy and negotiation. That was a place of exile. Alex descended the stone steps slowly. His shoes made no sound against the floor. Giorgio lay down, tied to a stone at the centre of the basement, his arms spread wide and chained. His white shorts were stained with dark red blood, and blood dripped from his mouth. Despite his condition, Giorgio smiled when he saw Alex walk in. He lifted his head with effort and exhaled deeply. “Well,” Giorgio called out, “here comes the great Alex Nick.”Alex stopped a few feet away, his face carved from stone. His men stood behind, silent shadows. He lifted her with guns strapp

THE PARTYThe ballroom was decorated with a huge chandelier and crystals that brightened the whole place, making it too perfect, like a gala night. Lillian walked in alone. Her head was high, and her hips swayed from side to side. She looked so confident and attractive that heads turned and whispered as she walked. Deep down, she wondered why everyone was staring. She felt eyes on her legs, her dress, her hair and even her eyes. They were whispering, but she maintained her confidence. She stayed calm and collected, looking like a mysterious goddess. She smiled throughout as she lived through the room, and her gaze caught on a shadowed corner. It was Alex. He walked in unnoticed as planned, dressed in a black suit, and blended in with the room, but his eyes were on Lillian the whole time. He watches her closely, hoping that she will carry out her mission without hesitation, but the eyes on her make him feel jealous. He also couldn't get his eyes off her because he hadn't seen a

The makeup artist studied Lillian with narrowed eyes. “Close your eyes for me,” she murmured.Lillian did as she was instructed. Soft bristles swept over her eyelids and cheekbones. Each stroke adding bronzer on her skin. Her cheekbones sharpened, and her lips were bold. Tonight wasn’t about beauty.Tonight, Lillian had to be a trap in order for Alex to achieve his goals. The city of Paris glowed through the skyview window. When she stood, the red satin dress, which Alex selected for her, glittered under the light. It hugged her skin and trailed down her hips with a high slit at the side. She looked at her reflection and admired her beauty. The dressing and make-up gave her full confidence. For the first time in her life, she felt like she belonged. She felt classy and confident. She looked like someone Alex would want, but he only used her for his own gain. And the thought alone made her pulse misbehave, and she silently sighed. The heels made her tall, elegant and impossible

Her breath hitched. He said it like a compliment, like something he was proud of.And somehow, that made it worse and better at the same time.“They’ll underestimate you, thinking you're soft,” he continued. “Good. Use it.”Lillian looked at him. This man trained her like she was a soldier. Who dressed her like a queen. Who dragged her into danger but watched her like he expected her to beat the odds every time?“What do I need to know?” she asked. He nodded toward the dining table. Profiles, photographs, and handwritten notes covered the surface.“Charm. Start with charm. Men like them crave attention. Make them feel understood. They’ll talk,” he explained.Lillian swallowed hard. They just arrived in Paris, and Alex is just all about business. But she has no choice. “And after charm?” she asked“Manipulation,” he said bluntly. “The kind they won’t see coming.”“So I’m spying on them?”“I’m teaching you how to stay alive,” he corrected, locking his eyes on her. She reached for the
