PHOEBE'S POV.
(August 18th Wednesday.)A loud sigh came out of Emily. "So, she's pregnant."I nodded. "Yeah. Which means she's stuck with him."Emily took a sip of her coffee and dropped it back down. "I have a thought, Phoebe."I furrowed my brows. "What's that?""Let's investigate. Let's investigate Leonard, and what he wants. Alexa might not be seeing this, but there's something else about him that she doesn't know about."Her words blanked me into thoughts. She made a lot of sense. Alexa likes seeing the good in people, so she never cares about what bad things they've done in the past, or if they have a dark past.If we could just help her into the light.Although... Won't we be meddling in her business?A sigh came out of me at the thought."You seem to be against it." Emily noticed.I shook my head. "Not really. I feel we'll be meddling, and what if we're wrong?'She shrugged. "Then we'll know we are. If we are wrong, then we'll keep shut, but what if we're right, and Leonard is up to no good? That guy right from the day I met him, seemed unsettled about the marriage."I nodded remembering it all. "Yeah, I remember. He never smiled once.""Exactly," Emily affirmed. "We have to help Alexa. The contract, Leonard, and now the accident I find weird, there's something going on."I shook my head. "The accident could be ordinary."She smiled. "No, it's not. I was able to check if something was wrong with the car, since no one except Alexa knows what happened, and guess what I found out.""What?" I asked curiously."The brakes were messed with."My eyes widened. "What?"She nodded. "You heard right. A friend was the one who helped. I was shocked when I discovered it.""You mean the accident was planned?" I asked in disbelief, cause this information made things a lot different. She nodded. "Although we can't tell her yet until we discover what really went wrong."I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we'll do just that..." I trailed as a thought came to mind. "Although, do you think Leonard was involved with the accident?" I probed doubtfully. She shrugged. "I don't think so, but I think he could be a factor."I was caught in a net of curiosity at the word 'factor.' "You think someone out there is not happy about Leo marrying Alexa?" I speculated uncertainly. She nodded. "That's right. It might be someone he was in love with because I'm pretty sure he had a girlfriend before finding out he was betrothed." She disclosed with conviction, and she was right to be sure, cause it's very much possible. My whole being was suffused with the reality that dawned on me. The fact that we are getting somewhere in helping Alexa has elevated my mood."We have to find out who she is, Phoebe." Emily asserted.I nodded agreeably. "You are the detective here, so it won't be hard for you. Your job is to find out things." I stated in quiet amazement. She just rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right, although it is a very simple thing to do.'My brows snapped together at the information. I was pulled against myself as the words confused me, especially for the fact that she said it at all.She sighed noticing my confusion, then shook her head. "Well, it's easy to just visit his I*, or F******k to see a picture of his girlfriend, and find out who she is."I gaped at the realization."You know, since we already know Leo, it will be easy to find out about his ex-girlfriend." She made it known.I nodded getting it. "Sorry, I didn't quite catch up." I justified. She nodded. "Figured. And that's exactly what you'll do."My eyes sparkled with excitement. "Really?"She scoffed. "Of course. I can't be the only one working on it."I smiled. "OK, then. What will you do?""Investigate the accident. What that Jane Doe what's-her-name did was attempted murder, and has to go to jail for that." She revealed.I nodded understanding it all."It's just that we could be wrong, since we are still standing on a loose thread, and working only with what we think. We don't know anything yet, except someone planned to kill Alexa." She said with a gloomy sigh."Still that would be a step, and a step makes a journey, and with a journey, there's always a destination. You should know that." I reassured her.She nodded. "You're right. Go work on that, so we can find her, and ask questions. And also keep an eye on Alexa. We don't want things of this sort to repeat themselves.""Aye aye, Captain!" I saluted.A mirthless laugh came out of her. "Sadly, I'm not the captain. Just a detective."I shrugged. "You're good at your job, Em, so I'm sure in the near future, you can be promoted."She nodded. "Yeah, but that's in the near future."I nodded. "Yeah. Whatever."She just shook her head. "I should leave."I nodded."We should go meet Alexa in the evening together since she's awake." She cajoled even though she knows that was not something I'm reluctant about. Although she probably thinks since it's her turn, I'd reject it.I smiled. "Why not?"She smiled back. "Rad. Tomorrow we'll start working on things. Gotta get back to work."...ALEXA'S POV.Looking around me, the fact that I'm in a hospital doesn't seem to get to me, although it brings back bad memories, but I've learned to move on from it. After all, hospitals are inevitable since everyone gets sick. The doctors that are made up of it save lives, so they shouldn't be hated by the ones they couldn't save. And now, the accident that I can't remember, they saved me, and my.....and my unborn baby.My mouth curved into a smile at the thought, as I placed my hand on my stomach. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I'm pregnant. I'm about to become a mother. The happiness glowing inside me at the thought was great. I don't know if I have ever felt so happy, or if I have, then I can't remember.Marrying Leo wasn't really a happy thing for me, since I didn't know him, but then he turned out to be a good, reliable person after the marriage.Funny thing was, he didn't let out a flaw even though deep within him, he wasn't happy either. My thoughts were, he knows we both felt the same, and there was no going back from it, so he just wants to really make things work between us since we're already in it.Probably why I developed feelings for him. Feelings that I still can't comprehend. The funny part is, he never wanted to have sex with me throughout the month of our marriage. It was weird since he was a guy. A guy who owns a famous clubhouse where he was. But anyways, we are married, so it's inevitable. One thing I know for sure is he is worthy to be trusted as my husband, especially for the fact that he's my godfather's son.I looked heavenward wondering if my parents watches me, and sees how my life unfolds."It's turning out for the better, right?" I asked lowly in a perpetually tired voice.I smiled faintly knowing there won't be an answer, and I'm just staring at the ceiling. The door suddenly opened making me avert my gaze toward it. I smiled seeing Leo.He closed the door and walked closer to me with a fancy bag in his hands which I'd become interested in."What's in it?" I asked curiously. He dropped it on a vanity a little bit close to my bed and looked at me. "I don't think that's a greeting, babe."I gaped. "Oh. Welcome."He just smiled, walked more closer to me, and laid a kiss on my lips which I returned, then he let go. "First, how are you?" He asked."I'm fine," I replied. He nodded. "Good to hear." He sat on the chair by my left-hand side. "When I called, you didn't tell me what I should get for you, so I just brought fruits, since you take them a lot." He seemed a bit nervous, probably thinking I won't be satisfied.I gave him a smile. "It's perfect, Leo."He nodded and stood up. "Let me go wash...""Wait." I stopped him.He turned to look at me. "What is it?""You went to your dad, right?" I asked hopefully. He nodded. "Yeah. I already informed him."I equally nodded feeling relieved. "I know it was hard, since you don't get along with him, but he...""Had to know. I know." He completed.I sighed wanting to bring back an issue he's been avoiding. "Can you sit first? The fruits can wait."His brows furrowed, his eyes darted from left to right, and then he looked at me. "Do you have something important to talk about?"I nodded. "Yeah.""Please if it's about my dad, and I, forget it." He dismissed.I looked at him with disbelief. "Why can't you talk about this? I'm your wife, right?""Maybe because you don't have the permit yet." He snapped.I was taken aback by it. "When? How long, then?"He shrugged. "Maybe never.""Then maybe I'll ask your dad about it.""Don't even try it."My body went numb at the deep voice he used on me, and his eyes... His eyes were wild, as he glared at me. Not what it used to be. He was angry, and I was left short of words. He blinked away obviously noticing my discomfort. "I'm sorry."I lowered my eyes. "Maybe you're not ready to talk about it yet," I said, though wondering how bad it really is.He looked at me. "Maybe."I nodded and looked away from him still in shock at the other side of him he just portrayed at me. That was new.I haven't brought out the idea of wanting to talk to his father about it, because I believe one day he would. I shouldn't have. I really should be careful since I don't know what he really has gone through, though that is sad.God knows what made him agree to marry me if he hates his father this much."I, um..." He trailed making me look at him. "Let me go wash the fruits, and slice them for you."I nodded. "Yeah, thanks."He sighed, took the bag, and walked out of the room.A huge sigh came out of me making me realize I'd been holding my breath since his sudden anger. When is he gonna be able to confide in me? Does he not trust me enough to do that? When am I gonna be worthy of his trust? It saddens me to know that my husband can't talk to me about his problems. What really is up with him, and his father?ALEXA'S POV.It was late at night, and luckily for me, this night will be the last I'll spend in this hospital. I so can't wait to go back home in the...in the warm arms of......I looked at him, as he was focused on whatever he was doing on his phone.I can't help, but feel like I'm the only one feeling this way toward him. Our afternoon misunderstanding was still clear in my memories."You know I can tell you're staring, right?" He hinted without looking at me.I just sighed. "Of course."He dropped his phone on the bed where I sat and looked at me. "Look, you've got something to say, say it, but it shouldn't be about my dad, and me."I nodded. "Yeah, you made that pretty clear."He paled. "I'm really....""I know, and I'm not angry," I assured him."But you've got something to say." He observed studying me.I nodded. "Yeah.""OK. Shoot." He shrugged.I let out a shaky breath thanks to the nervousness that suddenly engulfed me, but it won't stop me. "Um, I wanna ask if you...."The
ALEXA'S POV.2 days later. (August 20th Friday.)I felt a hand wrap around my swollen stomach, as I switched off my gas cooker. Leo laid a kiss on the left side of my neck making me sigh at the feeling. The feeling he's been giving me for a while now... Probably because I'm pregnant. Don't know."I was gonna go wake you up," I informed."Hmm." Was his answer, as he kept giving me kisses.I turned around to look at him and placed my hands on his arms which were still wrapped around me. "We should eat then.""Hmm..." He trailed off.I was beginning to wonder what his problem was."Have I done something bad to the extent that I don't deserve a good morning kiss?" He asked. My eyes widened. "Oh." I smiled. "Sorry."He nodded waiting for it.Oh. Oh, he's gonna let me go for it instead. He raised a brow at me impatiently waiting.I blinked. I think my body is shaking, and I could see a slight smirk on his face. He's obviously liking this.I feel transparent right now because it was obvious
LEONARD POV."Hey, man!" I heard the voice of the person I'd been standing in this park waiting for. Luckily for him, I'm not angry. It was actually fun watching as kids play, and laugh like there is no care for the world. It makes me imagine the feeling I'll get to watch my own child laugh, and play like that. I don't even know the kind of father I'll be, or who I'll be a father to. A boy or a girl. One thing I know damn sure is, I'm not gonna be a father like my father."Are you ignoring me, Leonard?"I looked at him. "You made me wait, Nick.""I was caught in traffic. I can't control traffic.""Then why wasn't I?" I asked feeling a spark of anger. He noticed me. "Chill, man. What's getting you all worked up? I'm sure it's not me."I sighed. "Nothing."He raised his brow. "Really?"I shook my head. "It's just my wife."His eyes widened. "Whoa. She's getting to you.""Not really. She just wants something that I can't offer. She went all moody on me today because of that. We argue a l
ALEXA'S POV.Five days later. (August 25th Wednesday.)..I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my already swollen stomach. Not too swollen, but very very visible that my top can no longer hideToday marks fourteen weeks, and five days of my pregnancy which Leonard has been waiting impatiently hard for since it is my appointment for my first ultrasound. He really wants to see the sex of our baby. He's excited about it."Babe. You're wasting time there. I'm waiting." Leonard's voice boomed from downstairs. You see what I said? Left to me, I would have wanted to be surprised, but my husband doesn't seem to like surprises."BABE!" He yelled again."I'm almost done, I'll be there," I yelled back.I dropped my top to cover back my stomach with a sigh, as I can't help staring at myself. The changes in my body are hard to miss. I'm adding weight, and I don't know if I should be scared.I'm sure Leonard has noticed it, but he still treats me well. I guess I have absolutely nothing to wo
ALEXA'S POV.It was night, and time to sleep, but my head couldn't stop circling around my husband confessing his love for me.I do love him, but I still feel doubt because he's secretive, and he doesn't trust me enough to rely on me.Although it's not easy to open up to someone, maybe that's why it's taking time for him.The door opened, and he entered in. He can't even make his calls around me. He had to leave to make a call. It bothers me.He climbed the bed, laid down, and threw his right hand over me, his arm on my stomach.I felt like wanting to know who he was talking to, but I decided I shouldn't spoil the mood. I tend to do that."Babe." He called, his eyes closed."Hmm," I responded."Stop thinking, and sleep. Your thoughts could disturb the babies from sleeping too."I chuckled at his statement. I wonder what is in his head, especially about pregnancy. He always has crazy things to say. He can be crazy."It's late. Quit it." He said again.I just smiled, and then I turned,
LEONARD'S POV.August 27th Friday.I sighed as I'd been doing for the umpteenth time. There's a lot of work for me to do, but I haven't even gotten anywhere.I need to make things right. I can't...I can't lose my family. A family that even if the world is turned upside down, I still wouldn't have believed I'll have. Now I have to be a responsible husband and father and vanish the enemies that happen to surround us.It's just... It's just that I only have a limited time, and with that little time, I'm not sure what can be accomplished.I have to be fast, cause even with that little time, the enemies could pull one over me. They could present to me the unexpected. I don't want things to be too late."Mr. Hodge"I turned to look who I'd been waiting for. A spark to getting my job done. Just hope it lights.I stood up from the bench I sat on, and we shook hands."I wasn't really expecting we'll be meeting in a park." He said looking around.I nodded. "That's right, but don't fret. I'm jus
LEONARD'S POV.It's late now, and we are already settled on the bed ready to sleep. I couldn't help but keep staring at my wife who doesn't seem to be in a good mood and seemed lost in thoughts. It kinda bugs me. I wonder what has gotten into her."Babe," I called her for the nth time, but she refused to answer me. She kept ignoring me.I sighed. I was planning on taking her out tomorrow, but with this sudden behavior of hers, I'm not so sure anymore.Something is definitely going on in her head. Obviously about me.I hope she's not thinking twice about...My phone ringing distracted me from my thoughts but happened to get my wife to look at me.I slowly sat up, carrying my phone off the vanity. I furrowed my brows at the caller ID."Who's calling you at night?" Alexa suddenly asked. And here I thought she lost her sense of speech.I looked at her. "A friend."I stood up and walked straight to the door on my way out of it."Can't you answer the call in here? Or is there something stop
3RD PERSON POV.Lion, the boss's right-hand man, and Owen, his left-hand man walked to where their boss sat since they were called by him."You sent for us, boss." Lion acknowledged. The boss nodded. "Yes, I did.""What is it about?" Owen asked with interest."I heard the drug trafficking was a success." The boss began.Lion nodded. "Yes, Sir. We were going to report it to you.""What about the gun smuggling?" He asked."It was equally a success. Luckily, the police don't have an inkling of who we are." Lion reported."I told you guys I hate receiving information from rumors, didn't I?"They both nodded."Apologies, boss," Owen said with a bow."I want things to really go smoothly. I'd hate if the police are on to us. None of us have been caught, right?" The boss asked. They shook their head."None, Sir."The boss nodded. "Good.""Anything else, boss?" Lion asked. The boss sighed and stood up. "As you know, my life's plan has been postponed, but I need you two to work out things for m
