Chapter 8 - Mixed Feelings

"Wait dad, i didn't get you very well, me, joan betrothed to damien? And is going to marry him?, that can't be possible dad, it can't work. Just why? Why dad, why was i even betrothed to him in the first place, why wasn't it someone else, why does it have to be Damien of all people and how do you expect me to get married to him? Huh?, i mean if it was someone else i would have agreed for you and mom's sake because that's the least i can do for you guys, but not Damien, dad who would want to be with or even marry someone who barely shows his face and looks scary, dad why did you even make a promise to his family in the first place or better still you could have choosen someone else for me but definitely not Damien" Joan said while panting.

"Are you done with all your rant" Joan's dad said amazed at the little speech she just gave.

"What??? But da-" joan tried to say but her dad cut her off

"Shhh, i told you before that whether you like it or not you must get married to damien, you have no say in the matter and you want to know why i made that promise, well you'll find out very soon, but I'm not going to tell you now." Joan's dad said.

Joan then looked in her mom's direction pleading with her eyes because she didn't know what else to say. She was hoping that her mother would be able to say something that might help to change her father's mind, but her mom just ignored her and then proceeded to talk.

"Darling, you may not realise it now but Damien is the perfect man and husband for you that any girl could ever dream of. Joan you don't know how much Damien has loved you since you were born. Getting married to a man who loves you is one of the best things that could ever happen to a girl. You know we always want what's best for you and right now we think that this marriage is best for you, don't worry darling you may not understand the importance of this marriage in your life right now but you'll have us to thank later in the future. So just make this enjoyable for yourself and don't even bother to stress yourself about it because you know your dad won't back out on his words so just think about the positive side in this matter" Mrs Rosa said while looking at her daughter.

"And what is the positive side mom, because i clearly don't see any"

"Well he loves you, he has enough money to carter for your needs and he can take care of you an-"

"Okay, it's enough mom, i get it they're many positive sides to it" Joan said in a bored tone

"But dad can't you at least try to talk to them and see if you can break the promise or stop this marriage from happening" joan said with a look of hope on her face.

"You're just wasting your time joan because i would never do that, the promise had already been made since a long time ago and it can't be cancelled so you'll have to end up getting married to him eventually, there's no two ways about it and the earlier you realise that the better for you. Like I've said before the marriage will take place in 10 days so your mother will help you prepare for it and be ready for that day" Mr Felix said in a tone that left no room for arguments.

Joan heaved a tired sigh there was nothing she could do, she had tried her best to convince her dad but he wasn't ready to listen to her, so she had no other option left than to get married to damien even though she didn't love him, but she had to do it for her parents, his parents and most especially his dad and the company in general she just had to bear with the marriage and the feeling of being with someone like him. And by the way it wasn't like she really had much of a choice.
