Chapter 1

My palm felt empty. My phone had slipped to the ground.

Only then did I realize I was still lying there.

I jolted upright, and a wave of dizziness hit me.

I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was 3:27 p.m.

That was when it hit me. Had I really been unconscious for more than two hours?

'It's probably my low blood sugar,' I thought.

It had happened before. I'd almost collapsed like this once.

Right now, what I needed most was candy or chocolate.

I pushed myself up, and I heard a loud crack under my feet.

When I looked down, I saw the castle model I had spent most of the day building was crushed to pieces.

I couldn't care less about it. After staggering into the living room, I rummaged around for some candies and bread. I stuffed them into my mouth.

The moment the sugar hit my bloodstream, I felt alive again.

I slumped back against the couch and stared at the ceiling for over ten minutes.

I then picked up my phone again.

I tapped on the trending post and pressed play.

In the secretly taken footage, the Brock Pack Alpha's family of three moved through the amusement park together.

They rode the roller coaster, watched the parade, and played tossing games.

The comment section was flooded.

"The Alpha is such a gentleman! He's even carrying the Luna's purse!"

"The Luna is gorgeous! Only a woman like her deserves the Alpha!"

The footage was blurry, but I recognized the woman who was mistaken as Luna instantly.

She was Christine Terra, the woman my Alpha, Augustus Brock, had loved for ten years.

The video kept playing.

Christine scooped up a spoonful of her strawberry ice cream and held it out to my son, Ethan Brock.

Ethan, who had never eaten anything I touched, opened his mouth without hesitation.

The next second, Christine kissed his cheek.

Ethan had never allowed me to kiss him, yet he smiled and kissed her back.

It felt like my heart was pierced by a silver blade.

The pain forced me to bend over. Tears fell before I could stop them.

What exactly had I been holding on to all these years?

When Ethan was just born, I couldn't resist kissing his soft, fluffy cheeks.

But by the time he turned two, he stopped letting me kiss him.

Every time I tried, he would push me away.

He'd grab a wet wipe and scrub the spot I'd kissed.

"Why won't you let me kiss you?" I had asked.

With his tiny, serious voice, he answered, "Saliva isn't hygienic."

He never ate anything I had touched either.

If I took a bite of fruit and offered it to him, he'd push it away in disgust and frown. "It's dirty."

Back then, I thought my son was adorable. He was so particular at such a young age and was truly worthy of being an Alpha's pup.

It was the cutest thing.

Although it made me a little uncomfortable, I had to admit he was right.

It wasn't hygienic.

I even felt proud that my son was smart and cared about hygiene at such a young age.

Being strict on himself at a young age meant he was a qualified Alpha successor.

The way he spoke so seriously reminded me of his father so much.

I loved his father tremendously. How could I not love him too?

That's why I respected his wishes.

I stopped kissing him, and I stopped forcing closeness.

After he turned three, at his insistence, I rarely even held him.

I thought it was just his nature. He was cold and distant, just like his father.

I thought I understood and respected that.

It wasn't until today that it hit me.

That kind of coldness depended on who it was directed at.

I never realized Augustus was capable of smiling either.

When he smiled, it was so gentle. It felt like the light of the Moon Goddess.

The pup I thought was a neat freak could eat food someone else had touched. He could kiss someone else on the cheek and let them do the same.

All these years, no matter how hard I tried, I had never received the kind of affection Christine got from them.

I had to admit I had failed as both Augustus' mate and Ethan's mother.

Suddenly, all the strength was drained from my body.

An overwhelming exhaustion washed over me like a tide.

I stared at the ceiling numbly and thought, 'Forget it. I should just give up.

'Holding on alone is too exhausting.

'Augustus, being your Luna is too exhausting.

'I don't want to try to please any of you anymore.'

Since then, Augustus would bring Ethan over every holiday, but I only allowed Ethan into the house. After all, he was still my son.As for the past, I didn't blame him that much anymore. He had been too young back then. His values hadn't fully formed.Whatever his grandparents had said about me in front of him and caused him to dislike me, it wasn't entirely his fault. But the hurt was real. I could never love him the way I used to.Now, what I felt for him was a sense of responsibility and duty.I was his mother. If he needed me, I would provide care and companionship, but nothing more.I even told him directly, "I may never be able to love you the way other mothers love their sons."Ethan gave a knowing smile. "I understand. You used to love me a lot, but I took it for granted."I didn't know how to cherish it. This is my punishment."I'm just glad you're not chasing me away."On his sixth birthday, I bought him a cake and gave him a hug."It's so nice. You finally hugge

Augustus fell silent for a moment. He seemed to have made up his mind on something."You can bring Lilian back to the Brock family. We can raise both children together.""I don't want that!" Ethan shouted. "I don't want her coming to our house!"Lilian trembled in fear and hid behind me.I held her hand and gave her a reassuring look.I then looked at Augustus and Ethan. "Lilian has her own home. She doesn't need someone else to give her a place to stay," I said firmly."Hannah, that's not what I meant," Augustus said anxiously. "You can't stay here with her forever, can you?""Why not? This is where I grew up. It's my home, and it's Lilian's home too."And I'm sure you saw it too. Ethan doesn't want Lilian in your house."It just so happens that I don't want her living under someone else's roof and constantly reading the room.""No one would dare treat her poorly!" Augustus uttered firmly. He then softened his tone. "Hannah, Ethan and I both need you."I rubbed my temples.

I didn't care about Augustus' remark that he would wait three days for me.Even when it came to getting back together, he still expected me to take the initiative. In this lifetime, he would never be able to treat me as an equal. That wasn't the kind of mate bond I wanted. On the third night, the two showed up at my door again.Ethan stood there with a stern expression. "Mom, Dad came personally to pick you up. What else do you want?"I crouched down in front of him and explained calmly, "Ethan, your dad and I have already severed our mate bond. We can't be together anymore."And if I remember correctly, the mother you wanted was Christine, wasn't it?"Ethan puffed his cheeks. "I don't like her anymore."I looked at Augustus. "You're not with Christine? I thought you two had already become mates.""Can we talk?" Augustus asked.I nodded and let them inside. There was no point in staying at a stalemate. It was time to make things clear. They sat on the couch. I brought over

  • The Mate Bond Severance   Chapter 9

Augustus was my senior by two years. The first time we met was because he stepped in to help me.That day, I bought some fruits from the convenience store in the dorm building. When I got back, I realized they were all spoiled.I went back to confront the clerk.Unfortunately, I didn't have the receipt. The clerk refused to acknowledge my request and told me to leave with the fruits so I wouldn't disrupt his business.I was so anxious I couldn't even get my words out.Augustus, who had been waiting in line to check out, couldn't stand it anymore. He pointed across the street and said the shop there belonged to his classmate. The camera at the entrance just happened to cover this side."I'll ask my friend to check the footage. If we see this student walking out with fruits ten minutes ago, that ought to do the trick.""Oh, I must have been mistaken." The clerk immediately changed his tone. "We have so many customers every day. I can't remember everyone."After leaving the sto

I actually laughed in anger at Augustus' arrogant, self-assured attitude."Augustus, let me remind you. Our mate bond has been severed for almost six months now."He glanced at me. "I know. You've refused to contact me. Haven't you just been waiting for me to come for you?"Well, I'm here now. You've achieved your goal. You can drop the act."Without waiting for my response, he pushed past me and walked straight into the courtyard. As he looked around, he spoke with clear disdain. "This yard is way too small. Is it even 500 square feet?"Since you like gardening, when you get back, move to that house in Seinville. The garden there is over 2,000 square feet. There's plenty of space for you–""Augustus!"I raised my voice. "Don't you get it? It's over between us! Get out of my house!"Augustus frowned. He was about to speak when Ethan suddenly cut in.Despite his young age, he was showing that familiar dissatisfied expression again."Mom, Dad and I came here personally to pick

The officers told me that Lilian had been taken in by an old werewolf living in the countryside.According to the nearby werewolves, when the old werewolf found her by the roadside, she was burning with fever and barely alive. He took her to a healer's den, got her injections and medicine, and slowly nursed her back to health.Since she hadn't reached school age yet, and the old werewolf had limited knowledge, he never brought her to the police station to register her identity. So all these years, Lilian followed him around and went out every day to collect scraps.Recently, the old werewolf passed away.Neighbors sent Lilian to the police station to register her identity. Only then was the truth discovered. My tears wouldn't stop falling.Holding the little girl tightly, I said, "Lilian, you've endured all the hardship you ever will. From now on, you'll live a safe and peaceful life."My brother-in-law had been an only child, and his parents had also passed away. Now, I was
