Chapter 5

Author: wowo
I looked at the man in front of me and began to doubt myself.

It seemed I had never truly understood him despite having liked him for so many years.

Perhaps whenever Christine was involved, he'd lose all sense of reason and principle.

"Augustus Brock!" I called him by name as well. "You're the Alpha of Brock Pack. I'll leave the matter of severing the mate bond to you.

"Think about it. This is what benefits you the most, isn't it?

"You can resolve the issue with the news and get what you've always wanted, your one true love.

"Your parents and your son like her more too. It's a win-win."

Augustus stood up. "You're still angry. I understand you're speaking without thinking. We'll talk again once you calm down."

With that, he took Ethan's hand and left.

As for the viral news, it was handled exactly the way he said.

The headline disappeared without a trace, and the buzz died down quickly.

From beginning to end, Brock Pack's official page never issued any statements.

All parties involved remained silent.

But everyone knew that silence meant acknowledgment.

Brock Pack had tacitly accepted the narrative of that family of three.

I felt nothing about it anymore.

I simply waited quietly for Augustus to complete the preparations to sever our mate bond.

But three days passed, and there was no movement on his end.

When I called, his assistant always answered in a professional tone. "Alpha Augustus is unavailable at the moment."

On the fourth day, I still couldn't reach him.

So I sent a message through our mind link.

[If you don't sever the mate bond with me, I'll hold a press conference as the real Luna.]

He quickly replied.

[Let's talk after I get home from work.]

That night, Augustus still showed no intention of severing our mate bond.

He seemed convinced I was just throwing a tantrum. "Alright. I'll apologize. This matter is over. Stop making a fuss," he said impatiently.

"I truly don't understand," I said while looking up at him. "You clearly like Christine. Why not just sever the mate bond with me and mark her?"

"If I do it right after she returns, what will the other werewolves in the pack say about her?"

"Oh!" I suddenly understood. "You don't want her to carry the reputation of ruining our relationship.

"But that's none of my concern! I just want to sever this mate bond with you. Whether her reputation is good or bad has nothing to do with me."

"Hannah, even your willfulness should have limits," Augustus said harshly. "If I really say yes, you'll regret it."

"Augustus, I'll say this one more time. I'm not joking.

"If you don't go through with severing the mate bond tonight, I'll publicly announce on every werewolf platform that I am the real Luna, and that Christine is the third wheel who ruined our relationship!"

"You wouldn't dare!" he snapped. "Fine. As you wish. I'll have the Alpha King arrange it now. Don't regret this!"

"Hurry up," I urged.

"Ethan is a pup of Brock Pack. I won't give him to you," he added.

"That's fine. He doesn't like me anyway. Even if I wanted him, he wouldn't come with me."

More than two hours later, the elders of Brock Pack arrived at our door.

They handed me an agreement to sever the mate bond.

I skimmed through it. Ethan's custody would go to Augustus, and I would have visitation rights.

What surprised me was that Augustus was relatively generous when it came to material matters.

Back when we formed the mate bond, under his parents' insistence, we had signed an agreement stating that the Brock family's assets had nothing to do with me.

I had already prepared to leave with nothing.

But in this agreement, he allocated a handsome share of the assets to me, including the house we lived in.

I didn't dwell on it. I picked up the pen and signed the agreement.

After signing it, I said to him, "We'll go to the Werewolf Council tomorrow to register it. You can leave now."

As the door closed, Augustus said coldly, "Hannah, I won't indulge your willfulness. You'll pay the price for this."

Even now, he still believed I was just throwing a tantrum.

He was warning me that if I kept this up, I would truly lose my way back.

But what he didn't know was that once I decided to leave, I had no intention of turning back.

The next day, we went to the Werewolf Council to register the mate bond severance. We agreed that one month later, the Alpha King would formally sever the mate bond.

During that month, Augustus and I never saw each other once.

On the weekend, I went to pick up Ethan as usual.

He asked me, "Are you really going to sever the mate bond with Dad?"

I nodded.

The joy on his face was impossible to hide.

I no longer felt hurt by the fact that he disliked me.

He spoke in a way that sounded as if he was doing me a favor. "You can come see me in the future, but not too often.

"Hmm. Once a month is enough. Otherwise, I'm worried Christine won't be happy about it."

I didn't respond.

That's how it was. I had done everything I could with Ethan.

I decided to let go. I had accepted the fact that he didn't love me.

A month later, under the witness of the Alpha King, Augustus and I officially severed our mate bond.

It seemed like Augustus wanted to say something to me, but I didn't want to see him anymore.

I turned around and walked away without looking back.

Since then, Augustus would bring Ethan over every holiday, but I only allowed Ethan into the house. After all, he was still my son.As for the past, I didn't blame him that much anymore. He had been too young back then. His values hadn't fully formed.Whatever his grandparents had said about me in front of him and caused him to dislike me, it wasn't entirely his fault. But the hurt was real. I could never love him the way I used to.Now, what I felt for him was a sense of responsibility and duty.I was his mother. If he needed me, I would provide care and companionship, but nothing more.I even told him directly, "I may never be able to love you the way other mothers love their sons."Ethan gave a knowing smile. "I understand. You used to love me a lot, but I took it for granted."I didn't know how to cherish it. This is my punishment."I'm just glad you're not chasing me away."On his sixth birthday, I bought him a cake and gave him a hug."It's so nice. You finally hugge

Augustus fell silent for a moment. He seemed to have made up his mind on something."You can bring Lilian back to the Brock family. We can raise both children together.""I don't want that!" Ethan shouted. "I don't want her coming to our house!"Lilian trembled in fear and hid behind me.I held her hand and gave her a reassuring look.I then looked at Augustus and Ethan. "Lilian has her own home. She doesn't need someone else to give her a place to stay," I said firmly."Hannah, that's not what I meant," Augustus said anxiously. "You can't stay here with her forever, can you?""Why not? This is where I grew up. It's my home, and it's Lilian's home too."And I'm sure you saw it too. Ethan doesn't want Lilian in your house."It just so happens that I don't want her living under someone else's roof and constantly reading the room.""No one would dare treat her poorly!" Augustus uttered firmly. He then softened his tone. "Hannah, Ethan and I both need you."I rubbed my temples.

I didn't care about Augustus' remark that he would wait three days for me.Even when it came to getting back together, he still expected me to take the initiative. In this lifetime, he would never be able to treat me as an equal. That wasn't the kind of mate bond I wanted. On the third night, the two showed up at my door again.Ethan stood there with a stern expression. "Mom, Dad came personally to pick you up. What else do you want?"I crouched down in front of him and explained calmly, "Ethan, your dad and I have already severed our mate bond. We can't be together anymore."And if I remember correctly, the mother you wanted was Christine, wasn't it?"Ethan puffed his cheeks. "I don't like her anymore."I looked at Augustus. "You're not with Christine? I thought you two had already become mates.""Can we talk?" Augustus asked.I nodded and let them inside. There was no point in staying at a stalemate. It was time to make things clear. They sat on the couch. I brought over

Augustus was my senior by two years. The first time we met was because he stepped in to help me.That day, I bought some fruits from the convenience store in the dorm building. When I got back, I realized they were all spoiled.I went back to confront the clerk.Unfortunately, I didn't have the receipt. The clerk refused to acknowledge my request and told me to leave with the fruits so I wouldn't disrupt his business.I was so anxious I couldn't even get my words out.Augustus, who had been waiting in line to check out, couldn't stand it anymore. He pointed across the street and said the shop there belonged to his classmate. The camera at the entrance just happened to cover this side."I'll ask my friend to check the footage. If we see this student walking out with fruits ten minutes ago, that ought to do the trick.""Oh, I must have been mistaken." The clerk immediately changed his tone. "We have so many customers every day. I can't remember everyone."After leaving the sto

I actually laughed in anger at Augustus' arrogant, self-assured attitude."Augustus, let me remind you. Our mate bond has been severed for almost six months now."He glanced at me. "I know. You've refused to contact me. Haven't you just been waiting for me to come for you?"Well, I'm here now. You've achieved your goal. You can drop the act."Without waiting for my response, he pushed past me and walked straight into the courtyard. As he looked around, he spoke with clear disdain. "This yard is way too small. Is it even 500 square feet?"Since you like gardening, when you get back, move to that house in Seinville. The garden there is over 2,000 square feet. There's plenty of space for you–""Augustus!"I raised my voice. "Don't you get it? It's over between us! Get out of my house!"Augustus frowned. He was about to speak when Ethan suddenly cut in.Despite his young age, he was showing that familiar dissatisfied expression again."Mom, Dad and I came here personally to pick

The officers told me that Lilian had been taken in by an old werewolf living in the countryside.According to the nearby werewolves, when the old werewolf found her by the roadside, she was burning with fever and barely alive. He took her to a healer's den, got her injections and medicine, and slowly nursed her back to health.Since she hadn't reached school age yet, and the old werewolf had limited knowledge, he never brought her to the police station to register her identity. So all these years, Lilian followed him around and went out every day to collect scraps.Recently, the old werewolf passed away.Neighbors sent Lilian to the police station to register her identity. Only then was the truth discovered. My tears wouldn't stop falling.Holding the little girl tightly, I said, "Lilian, you've endured all the hardship you ever will. From now on, you'll live a safe and peaceful life."My brother-in-law had been an only child, and his parents had also passed away. Now, I was
