CULLEN'S POV

I took the concrete stairs two at a time, my heavy boots making absolutely no sound against the rough stone steps.

The air grew significantly warmer as I climbed away from the freezing, damp dungeon levels, replaced by the smell of expensive floor wax and the lingering, bitter stench of cheap cologne. I kept my breathing shallow and even, relying on the dark shadows of the stairwell to hide my massive frame.

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 127: Blood On The Steps

CAOMH'S POVShawn Zach Comhraidhe had walked into the room ten minutes earlier, his boots heavy against the concrete floor. He hadn't said a single word. He simply tossed the rugged electronic device onto my thin mattress, tapped the screen twice to unmute the audio, and walked out, locking the heavy steel door behind him.The Luna thought you should see what she did to your kingdom, the Arden guard’s silent gesture had implied.I sat on the edge of the cot, my stitched ribs throbbing with a dull, persistent ache. I stared at the high-definition video feed streaming directly from the Silver Moon security network. The Northern hackers had completely hijacked the southern cameras, offering a flawless, multi-angle view of my former home. The central courtyard was a chaotic, surging sea of bodies.Hundreds of lower-ranking wolves had abandoned their posts. The co

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 126: On The Hot Hood

CULLEN'S POVI kept my hand firmly on the small of Meghann’s back, guiding her up the concrete stairwell toward the surface. My blood was rushing through my veins, thick and hot with the intoxicating high of our offensive victory. We had not fired a single bullet in the last hour, yet we had just delivered a fatal strike to the usurper sitting in the south. We stepped out into the freezing night air of the upper courtyard."My truck," I growled, pointing toward the heavy black SUV parked near the armory.Meghann didn't ask questions. She walked quickly to the passenger side, her boots crunching over the packed snow. Her cheeks were flushed a deep, vibrant pink, her bright green eyes shining with a fierce, untamed energy. I unlocked the doors, sliding behind the wheel and slamming my door shut against the howling winter wind.I twisted the key in the ignition. The mass

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 125: The Red Dots

MEGHANN'S POVRows of glowing computer monitors cast a stark, pale blue light across the faces of our elite intelligence operatives. The quiet hum of the massive cooling fans drowned out the howling winter wind raging above ground. I stood at the head of a long, brushed steel table, my hands resting flat against the chilled metal.Spread out directly in front of me was the paper trail of my own destruction. The forged medical certificate declaring Dreda Jaida Penn pregnant. The frantic, terrified letter written by the witch-healer, Caryn Green, begging for her sister’s life. The detailed banking logs proving Bronson Riordan had funneled thousands of dollars into the private accounts of the Silver Moon elders.I traced my finger over the yellowed parchment, the dry texture scraping roughly against my skin. For five years, I had blamed myself. I had carried a heavy, tox

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 124: Ash In His Chest

CAOMH'S POVI did not move. I remained on my knees, the sharp shards of broken glass from the shattered medicine bottles biting deeply into the bare skin of my shins. A pool of clear rubbing alcohol mixed with dark amber iodine slowly spread across the white tiles, soaking into the knees of my thin cotton trousers. The harsh, sterile smell of the chemicals burned the inside of my nose, completely masking the faint, lingering scent of the Northern Alpha who had just walked away.My right hand trembled violently as I stared at the yellowed parchment resting in my lap.The ink was faded, but Caryn Green’s frantic, terrified handwriting was perfectly legible."She wasn't even pregnant," I whispered. My voice sounded completely foreign. It was a hollow, dry rasp that seemed to belong to a dead man. The sound bounced off the sterile white walls of the cell, mocking me in th

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 123: The Forged Letter

CAOMH'S POVI lay flat on the thin mattress, staring blindly up at the flickering red bulb mounted above the door. My left arm throbbed a steady, deep rhythm inside its tight sling. The thick black stitches holding my ribs together pulled sharply every time I took a breath. The entire room smelled of harsh bleach, bitter iodine, and the stale sweat of my own failure.I was entirely hollow. I had given Cullen Hayden Arden the map to my home. I had handed the Northern king the keys to destroy my pack, hoping he could save the few loyal men I had left. I had nothing else to offer. My title was gone. My freedom was gone.I closed my eyes, listening to the quiet hum of the ventilation system. Then, the concrete floor beneath my cot began to vibrate. It was a low, powerful rumble that originated deep within the earth. It did not shake the walls or rattle the heavy steel door. It

  • The Mate He Rejected   CHAPTER 122: The Mutual Mark

MEGHANN'S POVI stood bare in the snow, my heart hammering violently against my ribs. Beside me, Cullen was already moving. He didn't waste a single second trying to investigate the sound in the dark. His massive hands grabbed my discarded winter jacket from the snowbank, wrapping the thick, dark fabric tightly around my shivering shoulders."We are going back inside," Cullen ordered, his voice a low, rough rumble. His silver eyes scanned the pitch-black tree line, his broad chest shielding me entirely from the wind. "Now."We didn't shift back into our wolves. We pulled on our freezing clothes with frantic, urgent motions and ran.The wild, feral hunt was over, replaced by the sharp, protective instincts of an Alpha securing his territory. We pushed through the dense pine branches, our boots crunching loudly over the icy crust of the snow. The sheer adrenaline of the run kept the bitter cold from se
