CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE

GRAHAM

The room was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. I stood by the large window in my office, staring outside, but I wasn’t seeing anything. My sight was blurry, my thoughts were too loud, and I clenched my jaw so tightly that it hurt.

The bastard, Viktor, had left a dead body in my territory as a message, not just any message, it was a loud and clear warning.

The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. I clenched my fists so tightly that it hurt. He had come into my pack, slaughtered one of my people, and left him bleeding into the earth like his life meant nothing. That was something I couldn’t ignore. That wasn’t something I could let slide.

And yet, this entire mess was about her. A silly damn vampire in my pack. An enemy that I should have thrown out the moment she stepped foot here, but for some reason, I hadn’t. It wasn’t for a reason, it was because of my mother.

Now, a war was brewing, and it had nothing to do with my pack or my people. It was about her,

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVEZOEY The hallway was mostly empty, quiet except for the low voices behind the training room doors. I was on my way to check on Lily when it happened. One step, and then my foot hooked on something hard.I stumbled forward with a gasp, caught myself against the wall, and stayed still, breathing heavy. My heart jumped into my throat, but I didn’t fall. Laughter sounded behind me.“Oh no,” a voice said in fake surprise. “Are you okay? You looked like you were flying for a second.”It was Nicole. Of course.I straightened, turned around slowly, and met her eyes. She was leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, looking smug as ever. Her two loyal shadows, Cassandra and Jenna, stood beside her both smirking like they’d just won a prize.I said nothing.Nicole clicked her tongue. “What, no ‘thank you’? I helped you practice your reflexes. You’re welcome.”I gave her a tight smile. “Sure. And I’m sure you didn’t mean to stick your foot out either, right

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURKELVINThe room was quiet except for the ticking clock on the wall. I sat in my chair, staring at the fire in front of me. It wasn’t cold, but I liked the fire. It helped me think.Charlie was late.I already knew why she was coming. One of my men had seen her earlier, arguing with Zoey in the market. He sent me a message right away.I leaned back in the chair, trying to stay calm, but my hands were tight fists on the armrests. She wasn’t supposed to talk to Zoey. The door opened.Charlie walked in, dressed like she always was, tight jeans, too much perfume, and a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.“You’re not going to believe who I saw today,” she said like it was some joke.“I already know,” I said. Her smile dropped. “Then you know she started it.”I stood up slowly. “Did she?”Charlie shrugged. “She was walking around like she owned the place. Like nothing happened. I just said hi. She was the one who made it a big deal.”I walked toward her. “And what

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWOZOEYThe wind was cool and soft as it brushed against my face. The sun wasn’t too harsh, and the streets were alive with quiet sounds, birds, chatter, the occasional bark of a dog in the distance.I was walking between Hannah and Lily, a soft smile tugging at my lips. We were downtown, in the small market square just outside the pack border, where wolves and humans traded food, clothes, and crafts. It smelled like bread and roasted meat, and I didn’t hate it.“Okay, I’ll say it,” Lily said, tugging off her sunglasses. “I like being outside today.”“You sound surprised,” Hannah said, flipping her braid over her shoulder.“I am. Last time I came here, some dude tried to sell me a love potion made out of rat teeth and rosewater.”“I remember that guy,” I said with a laugh. “He said it worked better if you chanted under the moon.”“Yeah, and then he winked at me like he wanted to test it on himself.”“You should’ve let him,” Hannah teased. We were halfway past a ro

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND ONEZOEYThe sun was already up, but I didn’t care.I was still curled under the thick blankets, staring at nothing. My body was still, but my mind was loud, flashing back to the blood, the fear, the guard’s lifeless eyes. I pulled the blanket over my head.A knock came at the door. “Zoey?” Lily’s voice, soft but not giving up. I didn’t answer. The door creaked open anyway. I didn’t have the energy to stop them.“I know you’re in here,” Lily said. “And unless you’ve suddenly turned invisible, we’re coming in.”She walked in, followed by Hannah, who was holding a tray full of food.“We brought reinforcements,” Hannah said, lifting the tray like a prize. “There’s toasts, fruits, hot cocoa and chocolate croissants.”I peeked out from under the blanket. “I’m not hungry.”Lily walked over and yanked the covers down halfway. “Well, too bad,” she said. “Because we are. And your room has the best view.”“And the comfiest pillows,” Hannah added, already kicking off her shoe

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONEGRAHAMI didn’t move right away after walking Zoey back to her room.I just stood there, staring at the door I’d just closed behind her. The four guards I’d assigned were already at attention, tense and alert, but it didn’t feel like enough. It didn’t feel like anything was enough.Zoey had been shaking when I found her. Not just afraid, terrified. And the guard… the blood… I clenched my jaw so tightly I could feel the muscle jump beneath my skin.Someone had gotten past my defenses. Into my pack. To her. And I hadn’t been there to stop it.I turned and walked away, fast and silent. My steps echoed down the hall, but I didn’t care. I needed space. I needed to think. I needed to breathe, or I was going to explode. When I reached my chambers, I slammed the door behind me. The sound shook the walls.I paced the room like a caged animal, chest tight, hands curled into fists. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her face. It was pale and tear-streaked, and she was

CHAPTER ONE HUNDREDZOEYI had a nightmare. It felt more like a memory than a dream. I was running barefoot down a dark hallway filled with fog. My chest burned with fear. I didn’t know what I was running from, only that it was behind me, silent and close.I kept going, searching for something, anything. Then I saw a door. It was mine.I grabbed the handle, desperate to get inside. But before I could open it, I heard a voice behind me. A whisper, cold and sharp.“Mine.”I turned. There was nothing at first. Just dark shadows. Then I saw a pair of eyes. They were red and glowing, and they were focused on me, watching me.They blinked, and in the next second, they were right in front of me. I screamed.——I woke up gasping. My heart slammed against my chest like it was trying to break free. Sweat covered my skin. My sheets were tangled around me. I sat up, shaking, and held my head in my hands. I couldn’t breathe properly. It didn’t feel like a dream. It felt like something more. It fel

CHAPTER NINETY NINEGRAHAMI was halfway down the hallway when her scent changed. It hit me hard, making warning bells go off in my head. I felt anxious, laced with something bitter, like fear.I turned immediately, heart in my throat. Her room wasn’t far. I reached it in seconds, fist raised to knock, but the door opened before I could touch it.She stood in the doorway, barefoot, her face pale. There was something crumpled in her hand, and her arms were crossed like she was trying to hold herself together. Her voice was low, almost fragile. “Someone was in my room.”That one sentence slammed into my chest.“They left this.” She handed me the paper. Her hand trembled slightly.I unfolded the note carefully. My eyes scanned the words once, twice. Anger rose slowly, hot and cold all at once.“Stay away from him. You are mine and I don’t share.”The handwriting was elegant, precise and possessive. The scent on it was even worse. The distinct scent of a bloodsucking Vampire.“Did they to

CHAPTER NINETY EIGHTZOEYWe didn’t plan it.One second I was leaving his office with too much in my chest, and the next, I found myself standing on the porch beside him as the moon carved silver edges along the world.Neither of us said a word at first. The night air was cool against my skin, carrying the fresh scent of the air after rain and something faintly sweet from the greenhouse behind the pack house. The noise of the world had fallen away, replaced by crickets and the distant rustle of leaves.Without thinking, I started walking and Graham fell into step beside me.We walked past the training field, quiet now, the sand smooth and undisturbed. Past the garden with its stubborn patch of herbs and flowers that refused to bloom. Our shoulders brushed occasionally, but he didn’t try to take my hand this time.It was… peaceful. Almost dangerously so.“I don’t think I’ve ever seen the pack this quiet,” I said softly, breaking the silence.“They sleep easy when they think everything’

CHAPTER NINETY SEVENZOEYThe door was still swinging slightly when I reached the top of the stairs. I paused. It was Nicole. Her scent hung in the air like spoiled perfume, floral, and it left a bitter taste at the back of my throat, too sharp. She breezed past me without a word, without a glance. But her posture said everything: tense, insulted, thrown off. Her heels clicked down the hallway like gunshots, and a second later, the front door slammed hard enough to make the floorboards groan.I stood there for another breath. Then another. And then I moved. I didn’t even knock this time. The office door creaked open.He was standing behind his desk, hand pressed flat against the surface, shoulders squared like he was still bracing for a fight. His expression softened the second he saw me. The steel behind his eyes melted to something gentler and warmer. But I wasn’t sure I trusted that warmth. Not yet.“Did she come to mark her territory?” I asked. His jaw ticked. “She came to remind
