Chapter 2

Author: Crystal K
Lucius didn't come home until late that night.

I pretended to be asleep, ignoring him.

But then my wolf caught a faint, foreign scent of omega on him.

Disgusting.

I shifted away, moving to the far side of the bed.

The next morning, Lucius was waiting for me at the breakfast table.

"You look tired today, my love."

I had to bite back a bitter laugh.

His lies were so effortless.

I gave a weak nod, then asked casually, "Did something happen yesterday? You came home late."

Lucius met my eyes without a flicker of guilt. "Just a few small things. Some of the Northern packs are voicing... disagreements."

"With the Silver Moon Pack at your back, no one would dare challenge you."

"But," I paused, watching him closely, "power is a fragile thing. The second they smell weakness, the wolves will be ready to tear you apart. You, of all people, should know that."

His fingers, which had been drumming a steady rhythm against his coffee cup, stilled. He was annoyed. "What are you trying to say?"

"I'm saying maybe I should be more involved in your work." I put down my fork, my eyes locking with his. "As your mate, it's my responsibility to ensure our Alliance is stable."

A flash of irritation crossed his face.

"That's not necessary, Anya. I told you, you should rest. I can handle everything."

"Like you 'handled' the pack's resources?" I gave a small, sharp laugh. "I'm going to the headquarters today. We can discuss election strategy. After all, we're mates. We should fight side-by-side."

Lucius’s body went rigid.

He was furious that I was interfering with his plans.

He opened his mouth to argue, but my gaze pinned him.

He swallowed his words, forcing a doting tone.

"Of course... if you insist."

"I do." My fingers traced the mate mark on his neck.

His body gave an involuntary shiver.

"Watching my mate work is my greatest pleasure."

An hour later, my car pulled up to the Alliance Headquarters.

The guards rushed forward to salute. "Luna Anya, the Chairman is waiting for you."

"No rush." I adjusted my gloves, deliberately slowing my pace. "I'd like to see how the headquarters is running first."

A hush fell over the lobby.

Every employee froze, their eyes locked on me with a mixture of fear and awe.

This was the power of my bloodline. The power of a true Alpha female.

My gaze swept across the room, finally landing on a figure at the front desk.

Clara Winters.

She wore a loose, dark blue uniform, trying to hide her growing belly.

But to my keen senses, the scent of a pregnant omega was unmistakable.

But what sent a white-hot bolt of rage through me was the moonstone necklace glittering at her throat.

I recognized the design. It was the one Lucius had promised to buy for me.

He later claimed it was lost during an attack, apologizing and giving me a bracelet I hated instead.

When she saw me, her face went white.

"Luna Anya!" She shot up from her chair, nearly knocking it over. "What... what are you doing here?"

I walked slowly toward her desk. With every step, the pressure in the room mounted, the air growing thick with my power.

"I'm here to see my mate." My voice was soft, but held undeniable authority. "Is there a problem?"

"N-no problem." Her voice trembled.

She subconsciously wrapped her hands around her stomach. "I'll inform the Chairman right away."

I moved closer, my body almost touching the front desk.

Clara’s breathing grew ragged, sweat beading on her forehead.

"Are you a new assistant?" I asked, as if making small talk. "You look... young."

"Y-yes, Luna. I'm Clara. I joined last year."

"Clara." I repeated her name. "A lovely name. Are you enjoying the work?"

"Yes, very much!" Her voice was on the verge of a sob. "The Chairman is very good to us."

"Is he?" A slow, cold smile spread across my lips. "That's good to hear. After all, not just anyone can work at the Alliance Headquarters."

Just then, the elevator chimed, and Lucius strode out.

He'd obviously gotten Clara's panicked message.

"Anya! You're here." He wore a flawless smile. "I thought you were coming this afternoon."

I immediately went to him, linking my arm through his intimately.

"I wanted to surprise you." I rose onto my toes and whispered in his ear, loud enough for Clara to hear. "And I wanted to have lunch with you. Just like when we were first mated."

I put extra emphasis on the word "mated" and watched Clara from the corner of my eye.

Her face was paler than ever, her eyes filled with fear and jealousy.

Her hands were clenched into tight fists.

"Of course." Lucius wrapped a possessive arm around me, leading me to the private elevator. "Let's talk in my office."

Inside the private elevator to the Chairman's office, it was just the two of us.

I turned to face him, my eyes locking with his.

"That new Omega assistant... Clara, was it? Such a pretty name, isn't it?"

Lucius froze for a second when he heard the name, then let out a soft laugh.

He reached out and playfully tapped the tip of my nose.

"What's this? Is my Luna getting jealous? She's just a new assistant. I can't even remember what she looks like."

His Alpha scent wrapped around me—calming and all-consuming.

"Darling, your focus should be on me, not some random girl."

He played his part so perfectly. His honesty and devotion were so convincing, I almost believed everything I'd heard yesterday was just a nightmare.

The elevator doors chimed open. He wrapped a casual arm around my waist, guiding me toward the lavish chairman's office.

"Alright, stop fixating," he urged, his voice low. "Let's talk about something more important—our future."

I leaned into him, obedient, but my heart was a block of ice.

Our future?

No, Lucius. My future.

And you don't have one.

Lucius's hand trembled as he picked up the pen and signed his name. Before the ink was even dry, my father, Elder Logan, strode onto the stage.Behind him were the elite guards of the Silver Moon pack, each one radiating killing intent."Leaders of the Alliance," my father's voice thundered through the hall. "Now, as the High Chieftain of the Silver Moon pack, I will announce the final judgment for the traitor, Lucius Blackwood!"The entire hall held its breath."This man betrayed his mate, defiled our god, deceived the Alliance, and plotted to murder his own kin. For these crimes, combined and unforgivable!"Every word was a hammer blow to Lucius's soul."The sentence is as follows: You are hereby stripped of your Alpha status. Your wolf and all its power are revoked. You are exiled to the Frozen Wastes, to never return!"It was a punishment crueler than death.A powerless former Alpha wouldn't last a day in the Wastes."No!" Lucius crawled toward me, desperate. "Anya! Please! We had

All eyes turned to me.The triumphant smile on Lucius’s face froze, a flicker of panic in his eyes."Anya? What are you talking about?"I walked slowly toward the center of the stage. Every step was deliberate, echoing in the silent hall."I'm talking about," my voice was clear and sharp, "the fact that this ritual was a sham."Whispers erupted from the crowd.Lucius struggled to keep his composure. "A sham? The Goddess has spoken!""The Goddess's answer?" I sneered and signaled to my aide. The large screen flickered to life, showing a high-definition audio file."Why don't we listen to this first?"I hit play.Lucius's voice filled the hall, so clear that everyone could hear every word."I've already contacted a warlock from the black market. They have ways to interfere with the ritual's outcome...""Once the ritual is a success, I'll take care of Clara and that bastard pup. They will never be seen again..."A dead silence fell over the hall.Everyone stared in shock at Lucius, whose

On the day of the ritual, the Alliance Grand Hall was packed.Every pack leader was present, media drones hovered, and the entire wolf world was watching the trial of blood.I sat in the VIP section of the main stage, dressed in the formal regalia of the Silver Moon pack.Lucius stood at the center of the stage in a white robe meant to symbolize purity, his face a mask of tragic determination.A fine performance. When the guards escorted Clara onto the stage, she looked weak and terrified, her trembling earning her a great deal of sympathy."Everyone," Elder Morrison, the presiding official, raised an ancient crystal sphere. "Today, we will witness the most sacred Blood Proving Ritual. The Moon Goddess herself will reveal the truth."The hall fell silent. Everyone held their breath.Morrison approached Clara and placed the sphere on her stomach. The orb began to glow with a faint silver light."Clara Winters, do you swear on your life to accept the judgment of the Goddess?""I... I do,

The next morning, I, as Luna of the Silver Moon pack, issued a formal announcement to the entire Alliance."To quell the rumors and defend the honor of my mate, the Silver Moon pack will host the most sacred Blood Proving Ritual. All pack leaders are invited to witness the truth."The news ripped through the Alliance.I sat in my office, watching the flood of replies on my communicator."Anya is so magnanimous.""The Silver Moon pack always puts the Alliance first.""That is the bearing of a true Luna."Every word of praise was another turn of the noose around Lucius's neck.It was too late for him to back out now."My Lady, the Chairman is here," my assistant announced.Lucius rushed into my office, still looking disheveled from the night before."Anya! You moved too fast!" he said urgently. "I haven't had time to arrange...""Arrange what?" I asked, feigning innocence. "Your warlock friend?"His face flushed. "I... I just wanted to make sure the ritual went smoothly.""Don't worry,"

That night, the rain fell in sheets.I was in my study, handling Silver Moon pack affairs, when I heard a frantic pounding on the door. No, it was more like someone was trying to break it down."Anya! Open the door! Please!"It was Lucius, his voice choked with desperation and terror.I ignored him, my eyes fixed on the documents in front of me. The pounding grew more frantic, punctuated by his pathetic wails."Anya! I know you're in there! Please, help me!"After ten minutes, the noise stopped.I thought he'd given up. But then came a heavy thud from the window. He was climbing in.I watched with cold eyes as the once-mighty Chairman of the Alliance crawled through my window like a stray dog.He was soaked to the bone, his suit in tatters, his face scratched and bleeding from the branches outside. The moment he saw me, he fell to his knees."Anya!" Beyond that, every conversation between Lucius and Clara about their illegitimate pup was laid bare for all to see."An Alpha who defiles a sacred spring," Marcus's voice boomed, "is not fit to lead this Alliance."The hall exploded. The graphic video on the screen left every leader stunned. A tsunami of whispers and accusations swept through the assembly."Gods! That's the sacred Moon Spring!""He took his mistress there? He defiled holy ground!""That's our Chairman? And they have a pup?"Lucius’s face was ashen, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He whirled around, glaring at Clara with pure venom."You!" His voice was a furious hiss. "You set me up, you bitch!"Clara, terrified by his sudden accusation, stammered, "What? Lucius, what are you talking about?""Stop pretending!" Lucius abandoned all pretense, jabbing a finger at her. "You must have recorded this secretly and given it to the Silver Moon pack!""I didn't!" Clara shrieked, stumbling backward. "Why would I do that?
