Chapter 3

Author: Crystal K
Lucius’s office was lavish, as always. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the entire sprawling city.

All of this, built on the wealth of our Silver Moon pack.

"Have a seat, my love." Lucius pulled out a chair for me, pouring a cup of tea, playing the part of the perfect, doting mate. "I had them prepare lunch."

Lunch arrived quickly, brought in by none other than Clara.

She'd changed into a crisp uniform that hugged her curves just a little too perfectly.

But the way her hand hovered protectively over her belly gave everything away.

"Your lunch, Chairman," she said, her head bowed and her voice soft. She didn't dare look at me.

"Leave it and get out," Lucius's tone was clipped and cold, a clear attempt to distance himself.

"Wait," I said suddenly.

Clara's body went rigid.

I dabbed my lips with a napkin, my eyes fixed on her still-flat stomach. I smiled. "Clara, right? How long have you been with the Alliance?"

"Al-almost three years, Luna."

"Three years," I nodded, my voice gentle. "Then are you familiar with our pack's traditions? For example, the blessing ceremony for newborn pups?"

The color drained from Clara's face. She shot Lucius a desperate, pleading look.

"It's our most sacred tradition," I continued, ignoring her silent plea. "Only true-born pups, of pure and legitimate blood, are worthy of the Moon Goddess's blessing. Those of questionable origin..."

"That's enough, Anya!" Lucius snapped. "She's just an assistant! She doesn't need to know these things!"

Just then, the soup bowl in Clara’s hand trembled. With a small shriek, the bowl tilted, sending scalding mushroom soup splashing all over the back of her hand and arm.

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Luna! I didn't mean to!" Her eyes instantly welled with tears, making her look pitiful and wronged.

Before I could even speak, Lucius was already rushing to her side.

"Are you okay? Where did it burn you?"

He grabbed her arm, his voice tight with worry, carefully examining the injury.

It was a raw, genuine concern he had never, ever shown me.

He didn't even turn around as he snarled at me, "Anya! Do you have to be so aggressive? She's just an assistant!"

The air turned to ice.

I watched as he turned his back on me, gently blowing on Clara's reddened skin. In that instant, a sharp, searing pain shot through the mate bond.

It wasn't jealousy. It was revulsion.

My heart died right then and there.

"I'm alright, Chairman," Clara sobbed, but shot a triumphant, defiant look at me from the corner of her eye. "It was my fault, Luna had nothing to do with it..."

"I'm taking you to the infirmary," Lucius said, helping her up without another word and leading her out of the office.

I sat there in silence until the door clicked shut.

For a moment, I was in a daze. Lucius had just sided with her, right in front of me, without a single thought for my feelings.

As if I was some monster ready to tear that bitch apart.

Tears blurred my vision. A few minutes later, Lucius returned.

"I had someone else take her to the medical wing. Anya. You shouldn't have cornered some omega like that. But… I shouldn't have yelled at you."

He walked over and handed me a cup of tea, a weak attempt to apologize.

An omega?

I laughed.

I didn't want to argue. I didn't want his fake apology. I just pushed past him and walked out the door.

He didn't follow. Instead, his voice echoed in my head through our mind link.

"Don't be angry, my love. I'll be home waiting for you tonight. I love you."

Fighting back a wave of nausea, I went for a walk in the garden, only to run right into Clara.

She was leaning against a tree, on her phone.

My werewolf hearing was a gift. Even from a distance, her words were crystal clear.

"Sarah, I'm freaking out!" Clara's voice was filled with panic. "That bitch Anya was here today. I think she knows something!"

A muffled voice answered on the other end.

"No, Lucius promised! After the baby's born, he'll use the excuse that 'Anya can't produce an heir' to break their mate bond! Then I'll be the new Luna!"

My fists clenched, nails digging into my palms.

"He promised me! This baby is his only heir! That old hag is just a placeholder!"

Old hag?

My wolf snarled, and the killing intent became almost a physical thing.

"Sarah, you don't get it. Lucius said Anya was just a stepping stone. Once he has full control of the Alliance, she and her family are the first to go!"

A stepping stone?

I emerged from behind the tree, death clinging to my every step.

Clara was still bragging into the phone. "Once I give birth to our little Alpha, Lucius will announce our relationship to everyone. Then, even the Silver Moon pack will have to listen to me!"

"Clara," my voice cut through the air behind her.

She whipped around, her phone slipping from her hand and shattering on the ground.

"Luna Anya! I... I..."

I walked toward her, step by step, my sheer presence making the air crackle and freeze.

Her legs started to shake. She could barely stand.

"Congratulations," my voice was soft, but laced with deadly cold. "I hear you're pregnant."

"I... I don't know what you're talking about..."

"You don't?" I stopped right in front of her, looking down at her. "Then what about this?"

I reached out and lightly touched her belly, feeling the faint flicker of life inside.

Clara went rigid with fear, not daring to move.

"A new life," I whispered. "So precious. But Clara, did you know?"

"K-know what?"

I leaned in, my voice a demon's whisper in her ear.

"Betrayal brings a curse. You might be carrying something that isn't yours... but that doesn't mean you'll get to keep it."

The color drained from Clara's face, her eyes wide with terror.

I watched her for a moment longer, then turned and walked away.

Lucius's hand trembled as he picked up the pen and signed his name. Before the ink was even dry, my father, Elder Logan, strode onto the stage.Behind him were the elite guards of the Silver Moon pack, each one radiating killing intent."Leaders of the Alliance," my father's voice thundered through the hall. "Now, as the High Chieftain of the Silver Moon pack, I will announce the final judgment for the traitor, Lucius Blackwood!"The entire hall held its breath."This man betrayed his mate, defiled our god, deceived the Alliance, and plotted to murder his own kin. For these crimes, combined and unforgivable!"Every word was a hammer blow to Lucius's soul."The sentence is as follows: You are hereby stripped of your Alpha status. Your wolf and all its power are revoked. You are exiled to the Frozen Wastes, to never return!"It was a punishment crueler than death.A powerless former Alpha wouldn't last a day in the Wastes."No!" Lucius crawled toward me, desperate. "Anya! Please! We had

All eyes turned to me.The triumphant smile on Lucius’s face froze, a flicker of panic in his eyes."Anya? What are you talking about?"I walked slowly toward the center of the stage. Every step was deliberate, echoing in the silent hall."I'm talking about," my voice was clear and sharp, "the fact that this ritual was a sham."Whispers erupted from the crowd.Lucius struggled to keep his composure. "A sham? The Goddess has spoken!""The Goddess's answer?" I sneered and signaled to my aide. The large screen flickered to life, showing a high-definition audio file."Why don't we listen to this first?"I hit play.Lucius's voice filled the hall, so clear that everyone could hear every word."I've already contacted a warlock from the black market. They have ways to interfere with the ritual's outcome...""Once the ritual is a success, I'll take care of Clara and that bastard pup. They will never be seen again..."A dead silence fell over the hall.Everyone stared in shock at Lucius, whose

On the day of the ritual, the Alliance Grand Hall was packed.Every pack leader was present, media drones hovered, and the entire wolf world was watching the trial of blood.I sat in the VIP section of the main stage, dressed in the formal regalia of the Silver Moon pack.Lucius stood at the center of the stage in a white robe meant to symbolize purity, his face a mask of tragic determination.A fine performance. When the guards escorted Clara onto the stage, she looked weak and terrified, her trembling earning her a great deal of sympathy."Everyone," Elder Morrison, the presiding official, raised an ancient crystal sphere. "Today, we will witness the most sacred Blood Proving Ritual. The Moon Goddess herself will reveal the truth."The hall fell silent. Everyone held their breath.Morrison approached Clara and placed the sphere on her stomach. The orb began to glow with a faint silver light."Clara Winters, do you swear on your life to accept the judgment of the Goddess?""I... I do,

The next morning, I, as Luna of the Silver Moon pack, issued a formal announcement to the entire Alliance."To quell the rumors and defend the honor of my mate, the Silver Moon pack will host the most sacred Blood Proving Ritual. All pack leaders are invited to witness the truth."The news ripped through the Alliance.I sat in my office, watching the flood of replies on my communicator."Anya is so magnanimous.""The Silver Moon pack always puts the Alliance first.""That is the bearing of a true Luna."Every word of praise was another turn of the noose around Lucius's neck.It was too late for him to back out now."My Lady, the Chairman is here," my assistant announced.Lucius rushed into my office, still looking disheveled from the night before."Anya! You moved too fast!" he said urgently. "I haven't had time to arrange...""Arrange what?" I asked, feigning innocence. "Your warlock friend?"His face flushed. "I... I just wanted to make sure the ritual went smoothly.""Don't worry,"

That night, the rain fell in sheets.I was in my study, handling Silver Moon pack affairs, when I heard a frantic pounding on the door. No, it was more like someone was trying to break it down."Anya! Open the door! Please!"It was Lucius, his voice choked with desperation and terror.I ignored him, my eyes fixed on the documents in front of me. The pounding grew more frantic, punctuated by his pathetic wails."Anya! I know you're in there! Please, help me!"After ten minutes, the noise stopped.I thought he'd given up. But then came a heavy thud from the window. He was climbing in.I watched with cold eyes as the once-mighty Chairman of the Alliance crawled through my window like a stray dog.He was soaked to the bone, his suit in tatters, his face scratched and bleeding from the branches outside. The moment he saw me, he fell to his knees."Anya!" He grabbed my legs and sobbed. "I was wrong! I was so, so wrong! Please, forgive me!"I looked down at the man I had once admired, now gro

Beyond that, every conversation between Lucius and Clara about their illegitimate pup was laid bare for all to see."An Alpha who defiles a sacred spring," Marcus's voice boomed, "is not fit to lead this Alliance."The hall exploded. The graphic video on the screen left every leader stunned. A tsunami of whispers and accusations swept through the assembly."Gods! That's the sacred Moon Spring!""He took his mistress there? He defiled holy ground!""That's our Chairman? And they have a pup?"Lucius’s face was ashen, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He whirled around, glaring at Clara with pure venom."You!" His voice was a furious hiss. "You set me up, you bitch!"Clara, terrified by his sudden accusation, stammered, "What? Lucius, what are you talking about?""Stop pretending!" Lucius abandoned all pretense, jabbing a finger at her. "You must have recorded this secretly and given it to the Silver Moon pack!""I didn't!" Clara shrieked, stumbling backward. "Why would I do that?
