"Elysia!" Kai shouted as he ran into the abandoned building.

Nicholas followed right behind him without a second thought.

"Spread out! Don't let a single one of them escape!" the detective barked at his men.

The officers immediately split up, disappearing into different parts of the building with their guns raised.

Declan rushed in after them.

Inside the building, one of the abductors had Elysia locked in a chokehold, a gun pressed against the side of her head.

"I'm sorry..."Declan's voice was barely above a whisper as he reached up and gently wiped away the tear that had escaped down Elysia's cheek. She immediately pushed against his chest."You think saying sorry takes away five years of neglect?" Elysia asked quietly. There was no shouting. No hysterics.Just a calm anger that somehow hurt even more.Declan refused to let her go.Even as she kept pushing against him, trying to free herself from his embrace, his arms remained firmly around her."Give me one more chance," he pleaded. "Please. I promise I'll make everything up to you."Elysia let out a soft laugh. It wasn't an amused or happy laugh. It sounded... defeated."Mr. Windsor." She slowly tilted her head and looked up at him. "How exactly are you going to make it up to me?"She held his gaze, silently daring him to answer.Declan swallowed."I'll be a better husband..." he said earnestly. "And a good father."Elysia's eyes widened for the briefest second.A good father. So… He kn

It had been two days since the kidnapping and rescue.Elysia had refused to go home. She'd refused to leave Kai's side.Declan, on the other hand, had practically refused to leave too.He wasn't about to leave his wife with another man. Every day, he'd return to the villa, take a shower, change into fresh clothes, then come back to the hospital with food for both himself and Elysia.Even though she'd refused to talk to him, she hadn't chased him away either."You should eat something. I had Martha prepare your favourite dishes," he said, setting the basket down.Elysia glanced at it before looking back up at him.The room was quiet except for the steady beeping of the heart monitor. She was sitting beside Kai's bed. He still hadn't regained consciousness, but the doctor had assured them he'd be fine.It was only a matter of time."Mr. Windsor," Elysia called quietly but firmly. There wasn't an ounce of warmth in her voice.Something twisted inside Declan's chest. She wasn't calling hi

"I asked you to bring her back to the Windsor family's residence!"Alistair's furious voice thundered through the home office. The moment Daniel stepped through the door, a bound document came flying across the room.It struck him squarely in the chest before falling to the floor.Daniel looked down at it for a brief second. His jaw tightened. His fingers slowly clenched and unclenched at his sides. He was getting tired of his elder brother's constant lectures."You think I didn't try?" Daniel shot back, jabbing a finger toward him. "How was I supposed to know half the damn city would get involved?"Alistair scoffed. He rose from behind his desk and began pacing the length of the office with both hands clasped behind his back."You make it sound like I planned for it," Daniel continued impatiently. "Even your son showed up trying to play the hero."Alistair stopped walking. His head turned sharply toward his younger brother before a deep frown settled on his face."Of course he did,"

"Ely!"Camille's voice rang through the emergency hallway the moment she burst out of the elevator.Nicole and Rémy were right behind her, all three of them having rushed over the instant Camille called from the hospital.Elysia slowly lifted her head. The moment Camille saw her younger sister, her steps faltered.Blood.There was blood everywhere. It stained Elysia's sweater, soaked into her sleeves and covered both trembling hands. Even her cheeks carried faint crimson smears where she'd unknowingly brushed them. For one horrifying second, Camille thought it was Elysia's.Her heart nearly stopped."Elysia..." she whispered, rushing toward her.She dropped to her knees in front of her sister and grabbed her shoulders with shaking hands, frantically looking her over."Are you hurt? Where are you bleeding? Tell me where you're hurt."Elysia stared at her blankly before slowly shaking her head."It's... it's not mine."The words barely left her lips before her voice cracked."It's Kai's

"Doctor!!"Nicholas's voice echoed through the hospital the moment the automatic glass doors slid open.He rushed inside with Jade in his arms, his shirt completely soaked with her blood."We need a doctor!" Detective Baker shouted as he hurried in behind him."Gunshot victims!"The emergency department erupted into motion.Doctors and nurses rushed toward them, pushing stretchers as they called instructions to one another.Outside, Declan's Rolls-Royce screeched to a stop in front of the emergency entrance. He immediately threw the door open and stepped out.Elysia didn't.She remained in the back seat, still cradling Kai in her arms. Her entire body was trembling. She didn't know what to do.She didn't even know if moving him would make things worse. His face had gone frighteningly pale, and every shallow breath looked more painful than the last. This was all because of her.If she hadn't gone to the institute… If she hadn't become the target...None of this would've happened."Plea
