I didn’t sleep much, but Alexander slept well as he always did. My nerves were shot, and I was nervous. Would the Council reject our case? What would happen if they did? I took a deep breath before moving to the edge of the bed, watching as the sun began to settle below the trees.
There was a knock at the door, the sound made me whip my head toward the door. “Come in.” Alexander’s voice spoke behind me. I twisted to see him looking up at me, his arms behind his head. “Hurry and get dressed.” Lachlan’s voice chirped from the entryway. “Court’s starting early. Apparently they have a lot to talk about tonight.” I sighed, climbing out of the bed and going to my outfit that had been laid out for the night. “Night two.” I muttered to myself as I gathered my clothes and headed to the bathroom to get ready.

Ever since I graduated 5 years ago, I have enjoyed my time as a nurse. I liked the chaos; and thrived in stressful situations that would cause others to shut down. I chewed my lip anxiously, attempting to prepare myself for the bombardment of questions and soreness from Aunt Maggie when I got home. I was in a daze, in a mere matter of minutes, my life went from normal, to downright something out of a tv show. Aunt Maggie had not shut up the entire time we were in the car. All she did was ramble off about everything that had occurred in the last 19 years since she had left with me. I was valedictorian in high school and went to nursing school on a full-ride scholarship. I graduated there on the Dean's List and was also valedictorian there. Though they were a short 'yes,' or 'ah,' Adam acknowledged her. I didn't know if he was really listening after the first 10 minutes of her speech.
