Heat flooded my face as I looked away from the stage fast and blinked at him.

“Dance there? Are you joking?” I asked, appalled.

“No, I’m not.” He shrugged, smirking at me.

“I would never do that even if you requested it,” I said firmly.

“I know.” His smirk widened. “I mean… in our room,” he pressed. Not for an audience.”

Our room.

The two words hit me strangely in the chest and I swallowed as warmth spread through me.

We had never truly shared space as anything resembling a couple.

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   I Love You…

Barely a day into our new relationship status and we were already so close to biting each other’s heads off.I followed her up, already out of breath and edging toward insanity. However, the moment I stepped through the doorway, a shoe struck my chest.“I don’t want these useless shoes,” she said, her voice thick with tears, already reaching for the other. I caught it before it hit me.I caught the second one out of the air with a quick reflex before it could hit my stomach, and glared at her to see her already pulling at her dress.“I don’t want these useless shoes. I don’t want this useless dress either,” she continued, tugging at the fabric. “I don’t want any of it!”Marco and another guard appeared in the doorway with the shopping bags from earlier. They had already retrieved them from the car while we were arguing, brought them up, and left. And now, Vanya tore through the nearest bag, searching for something to wear, and yanked out the first soft piece of clothing she found.

“Say to whom? That girl?” she asked, feigning innocence. “What would I say? We’re not even friends. I don’t even know the girl. I went to freshen up and she was there. Just a coincidence…”“Cut the bullshit.” I sneered. “She wouldn’t have run off like that if you had not said something to her,” I said. “And it’s obvious that the only person she spoke to in there was you, so tell me what the hell you said to Vanya!”Serena sighed, finally dropping the act. “I simply told her the truth. That she’s simply a replacement. A convenient one for now. That’s all.” She studied my face. “Isn’t that the truth? Ivan! You can’t possibly be taking a girl like that as anything permanent…”Anger spiked through me. I glanced around, clenching her wrists tightly enough to make her wince, and gritting the words out to her. “If it weren’t for old times’ sake, I would have done something you would not have expected of me.”Her face paled. I released her hands sharply and moved quickly to find Vanya. I c

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   Threat…

Ivan. The private room was the main heart and soul of the underground casino. It was the part beyond the club and the public floors, rid of all entertainment and pleasures, and the place where only business was strictly discussed. Matters that controlled the entire city of Moscow were casually discussed here even before the lawmakers knew what it entailed, and my sole reason for walking in there tonight was an important meeting with The Shepherd.Don Maksim. My meeting with him had been anticipated for months. A deal we’d both been circling carefully, each of us waiting for the other to blink first.I met him in the private back room, alone, having specifically told Marco to remain outside. In this world, there were still men who outranked me, and this man was one of them.I walked past the two sets of doors and past four sets of guards who only glanced at me without speaking.I met Maksim already seated with a drink and a cigar in hand. We got to business, and most of our conversat

“And not just that,” he continued, slowly. “She’s my wife-to-be.”He released the woman’s hands immediately, reaching for mine instead and deliberately lifting it. She glanced downward at our intertwined hands and then the ring, and her eyes widened, disbelief and anger flashed in her eyes, and for the first time since she started to speak, she truly looked at me, then back at Ivan.“You can’t be serious,” she scoffed. “Did you not say that you had no interest in marriage? That you’d never want anything long-lasting with anyone…”“Whether I had an interest before or I’m developing it now, it has nothing to do with you, right, Serena?” Ivan cut her off, his voice low and daring as he glared at her.Her lips trembled.“Answer me, Serena,” Ivan said sharply, calling her by name. She looked at him for a long moment, glared at my hand, then turned on her heel and walked away without another word.Ivan guided me to a quiet seating area slightly removed from the main floor.“I’ll be back in

Not for an audience.”Our room. The two words hit me strangely in the chest and I swallowed as warmth spread through me. We had never truly shared space as anything resembling a couple. The idea of living that way… with Ivan… still felt foreign to me.I hesitated, uncertain how to answer him.“Answer me,” he spoke again, staring at me. “Would you not do it if I wanted you to? I’m not asking you to do it publicly. I just want it between the two of us.”My lips parted and I pressed them tightly together. “I don’t know how to do things like that,” I said honestly. “Stop asking me for things that I genuinely can’t do.”We were still arguing back and forth when, suddenly, someone approached

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   Pole Dance…

Vanya.Ivan brought me somewhere I’d never seen before. Some sort of expensive, weird-looking place with dangerous-looking people that could pass as a casino and a sprawling club. One look at it and I knew it wasn’t accessible to just anyone and probably catered exclusively to Moscow’s underworld.Even before we stepped inside, the atmosphere outside told me everything I needed to know. There were enormously built men lining the entrance, with guns displayed fearlessly on their waists, and most of the men moving in and out of the door looked even weirder. Some had scarred faces, shaved heads, and unlike Ivan, who only had tattoos from half of his thigh upward to his waist and the side of his neck to his shoulder blade, they had hideous-looking tattoos sprawled across major areas of their skin. Some had shaved heads and spiky hair in some parts; others had long, braided hair. A few of them smoked openly, watching everyone who passed with the same flat, assessing stares.Marco follo

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   The Monster Between My Legs…

Vanya. My body hurt all over, and my head ached from crying all night. I had no idea how much time had passed since I was dragged into this cold cell. There was no window or any reliable source of light.I collapsed on the floor as emotions rushed through me. Now that I was alone, I felt every wa

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   He Doesn’t Play Games…

Ivan.I’d just scrubbed the stench of Katya’s blood off my body, yet it remained clear that people no longer valued their miserable lives.I had spent years building order out of chaos. Every living, breathing person in this estate operated according to my rules. Every guard knew his place. Every s

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   The Don Is A Liar…

Vanya I had heard the stories. Ivan Petrov was a ruthless man, a monster every soul in Moscow feared. A man who walks in secret, kills without mercy, the world believes he’s crippled while he tightens his grip on Moscow’s underworld. No one dared to cross him, not even now, when he lost the ab

  • The Mute Bride For The Don   Breaking Point…

Vanya. “Vanya!” The cold hit me first. A shock of freezing water slamming across my face and chest. I gasped, bolting upright on the thin mattress, my thin nightgown clinging to my skin like a second, shivering layer. “Vanya! Get up!” My stepmother’s voice sliced through the morning light l
