ELORA

I wasn’t dead yet. I could tell when my eyelids slowly parted to reveal the ceiling above me. I had a feeling heaven would be a lot more overwhelming.

But that wasn’t the reason my eyelids parted completely. No. It was the very familiar smell that hit my nostrils.

The fresh linens, flowers, and something sweet in the air.

Then, the pain followed.

It was dull, but it was there. I had been through a lot in the past couple of days, and I wasn’t even sure where I was yet. I had managed to get a glimpse of my pack’s flag before I fell unconscious. I wondered if I was in Stormrider, or in the den of another evil prince who had a vendetta against my father.

I blinked up at a chandelier I didn’t recognize.

The ceiling had gold accents. The bed I was lying on was way too soft. This room didn’t feel safe. If anything, it felt like a trap.

I tried to sit up, resting my head against the wooden headboard.

Despite my body’s ache, I could move.

Bandages covered most of me, but I could

ELORA Tonight should have been perfect. I should have been standing by Alpha Kael’s side on his coronation ceremony, maybe…if the goddess was kind, I’ll be his mate. But my father’s voice had ran loud in my ear that evening. “You’ll just embarrass us, Elora. You must stay put in your tower.” He was going to replace me with my step sister, Selene. His golden child, his warrior. Her golden hair reminded me of the sunlight, her smile was bright enough to charm anyone. Still, she didn’t deserve him. She was mean, very mean. And Kael… I stretched my arms against the windowsill, smiling at the full moon. Oh! Kael was everything an alpha should be—strong, commanding, and devastatingly handsome. His dark hair always seemed to fall perfectly down his face, and his green eyes sharp and full of fire. He was kind too. I had often heard the servants say he wasn’t anything like his father. My love was honest, full of integrity. He was a warrior of valor, and he loved his people unco

  • The Mute Luna Bride    A dejected queen

Elora’s POV The room was quiet, except for the soft sound of Kael’s breathing. I tried to take in sight of him. This would be the closest I would ever get after today. I made a mistake last night, and it could never repeat itself. I slipped out from under his arm, moving carefully so I wouldn’t wake him. I couldn’t afford that. Not until I figured out how to keep our secret. I found my clothes and grabbed them, pulling my dress on as quickly as my shaking hands would allow. Slowly, my fingers rose to brush the mark on my neck. The bond had been sealed, but it felt like a curse, not a blessing. Sierra whimpered, confused and hurt. “I don’t understand,” she tried to say. “Why aren’t you happy? I’m trying to be, but there’s an energy I can sense from you that isn’t letting me.” “He’s yours, not mine.” I told her. It didn’t ease her confusion. “What does that mean? You and I are the same.” I scoffed. “Not when I’m the mute, abandoned daughter. Not when I’m no

Elora’s POV Just as I had expected, the meeting was a disaster. Kael had called one in the throne room between his father, my father, Athlea - my stepmother, Selene, and I. He told them everything. How he had found out we were mates and how he marked me. Just as Selene said, his father, the former alpha, told him he didn’t have to marry me. “It’s not compulsory. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.” He spoke about the prophecy again. “But it said you’ll be with one of the Valewind sisters, and you made your pick as a young man.” Athlea cut in. She placed her hands on Selene’s shoulders. My sister’s eyes were swollen from all her crying. She had always been very cruel to me. Still, it hurt me to see her like that. “The goddess chose Elora for me. I’m sure there’s a reason for that.” He had responded. “So, I would take Elora as my Luna, and she would be accorded the respect she deserves. I would not question fate or the goddess. If I am to end this

Kael Day or night. I didn’t care. I had lost the understanding of the concept of time since she left. The ever quiet, ever happy lady Elora. “We couldn’t find her, your majesty.” The guards chorused as they bowed their heads to the ground. I sucked in a deep breath and scratched my chin in thought. It had been five days since the meeting with our parents. She was never to be seen again after that. It was a very silly thing, if I dare say, how I had gone from never really knowing her to unable to barely able to function since she went missing. I had searched the entire pack, and even neighboring packs to the East and West. Everytime the guards came back without her, one thing became clearer. Elora was gone. On the first day, I had searched the entire pack house, checked the gardens, the training grounds, and even the little cabin she liked to sit in when she wanted to be alone. I had often found her there during my visits to Selene. Nothing. She wasn’t anywhere

Elora’s POV The sheets covering my body did little to stop the chill that seeped into my bones. My head pounded like I’d been hit by a rock, and my limbs felt heavy. I struggled to part my eyelids, but they wouldn’t budge. The smell of the room was strange. No matter how hard I sniffed, I couldn’t recognize it. Where was I? It was raining outside, I could hear the sounds of soft raindrops. Fear shot through my bones, causing my eyes to open widely. Rain never came during this part of the year. How far away from home was I? My fingers brushed the soft fabric of the bed beneath me. It wasn’t familiar. Nothing here was. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my side, forcing me to lie back down. It all came rushing back. The attack. The wolves. The pain. My hand flew to my side, expecting to feel open wounds, but instead, there was nothing but smooth skin. What happened? Amidst my confusion, the door creaked open. Frightened, I pressed my back aga

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Trapped with the enemy

Elora First, I was mated to Kael Stormrider, the man who loved my sister. Now, I was mated to my pack’s worst enemy? Why didn’t I remain without a mate? I was better off locked up in my tower in the pack house than in enemy territory. My eyes didn’t leave his amber ones as I stared intently at them. Sierra stirred softly within me. He was right when he said that she had been injured severely. As she awakened slowly, I began to feel the pull again. The hairs at the back of my neck tingled under his gaze. It was the same feeling I had with Kael last night, and when his gaze softened, I could tell his wolf had recognized me. ‘Mate.’ Sierra purred. “Yes, another one.” I replied to her. I needed to speak to him. To tell him it was all a mistake and I needed to return home as a soon as possible. There was a huge chance he already knew who I was, seeing as he took me and brought me here in the first place. But what if he didn’t? I gestured for writing materials with my

Elora I sat on the bed, my legs tucked under me, staring at the locked door. It had been days, maybe longer—I had no way of knowing. The only people I ever saw were the maids who brought my food and left without a word. I wasn’t allowed to leave until I was strong enough to start my training. It wasn’t my first time being locked up or hidden, still I felt like a prisoner. Then, the door opened and she walked in. She was tall, with short, dark hair and sharp eyes that looked like they could cut through steel. I recognized her from the other night. Kiara. Relief washed over me. Finally, someone I could talk to—well, communicate with. The maids never spoke to me, almost like they were afraid to. I grabbed my scroll and quickly started to scribble a message, but before I could finish, Kiara sighed and shook her head. “Don’t bother,” she said. “I can understand sign language just fine.” I paused, the quill hovering over the paper. Slowly, I set it down. Kiara pulled a chair

Ryker “Anya, always watch your back! She can…” Too late. Hagar’s sword cracked against Anya’s back, sending her crashing to her knees. Before she could recover, Hagar swept her leg out and slammed Anya down hard into the dirt. The entire field erupted into loud screams. I fought hard to mask my smile. These were my men, my strong women. My warriors. My pack of wolves dressed in human skin. I would do anything for them, and it was for this reason I made sure to train every single one of them as soon as they were of age. Everyone deserved a fighting chance, and only the strong dared to fight. They needed to be strong. Hagar stood tall. She barely nineteen and already ruthless. She bowed her head, her cheeks coloring as she stole a glance at me. She was proud. Desperate for my approval. They all were. Good. They should be. I gave a nod. Barely. i didn’t need to smile. KAEL I loved my people, I really did. But council meetings like these, about things that didn’t matter as much as the lives of our subjects, were my least favorite part of being alpha king. The fact that I had to sit through them was more than enough torture for me. Honestly. I’d been zoning out for a good ten minutes when Elder Myrick launched into another one of his legendary speeches about tradition and reverence for the Hunt. I tried to listen. Believe me when I say I really did, but the man could talk a tree to sleep. The annual hunting feast was important. I knew that. It was one of those royal duties I had to act excited about, even if I couldn’t care less about chasing down a bull with a pack of nobles who thought bathing was optional.I leaned forward, just to feign interest, when I caught Darius standing by the doorway. He was standing there like a damn statue. A long, distant, yet confused look in those narrow green eyes of his. I had known my beta long enough to unde

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Surrender

ELORA I didn’t expect a parade. But I thought… maybe it’ll be harder for someone to say goodbye. They had been like a family to me in these past days. I didn’t know how to explain it. But being cast away like this, it hurt more than my father’s hatred ever could. With my father, I could tell myself he was reminded of his misfortune everytime he looked at me. But with these people, the wolves of the south who were supposed to be my enemies, it was different. The wind was cold against my face as I stood just outside the borders of the camp, my cloak pulled tight against me. A small bag was slung over my right shoulder. It contained everything I’ll need for my trip back home. At least, that was what Ophelia said. The bruises from the fight hadn’t fully healed despite Sierra being a silver wolf. However, it didn’t hurt that much anymore. Not as much as the silence that greeted me while I walked slowly, with aching knees, out of the camp. Hoping, praying, that he would change his

ELORA Flashes of white, bright white, craved to blind me. Then came the silver. Lightning…so much lightning. I pressed my eyes shut with force. I could see teeth tearing into flesh. The images of blood…so much blood, pooling beneath me in a thick red sea. My heart pounded against the tired muscular walls of my chest. I could feel my limbs twitch, and something…very deep inside me clawed through my skin, desperate to get out. Then it all went dark again.Until it didn’t.My eyes flew open, and I jerked upward, drenched in a pool of my sweat. But my body had only moved forward a tiny bit when it stopped with a harsh rattle.Chains? It hasn’t registered into my mind. Not yet. Not until I turned to my right and saw the cold metal biting into my wrists. To the left, and it was there. I looked down, panic swelling in my throat as bile rested on my tongue. The cold steel bound my feet as well. I was in shackles. Chained like a feared, dangerous criminal. Why? What the hell had I

  • The Mute Luna Bride    An uncontrollable storm

AUTHOR In the former beta’s quarters in the Stormrider pack, the heavy oak doors slammed open with a crash that shook the stone walls. Athlea, his wife and mother of the Luna, stormed into the great hall, her blood red robe clung to her curvy body like a second skin. By the hearth, Varek sat slouched in a carved chair, swirling a goblet of dark wine lazily between his fingers as he stared outside the window. He didn’t notice her step in. He should have heard from the leader of the mercenaries by now. They were yet to return with Elora’s head to claim their reward money. “Old man!” Athlea roared, but Varek didn’t flinch at his wife’s rude entrance. In fact, he barely looked up.It was typical of her. Athlea’s lip curled in disgust as she crossed the room, her boots striking sharp against the cold floor. In her hand, she clutched a bloodied scroll. “You sit here and drink,” she hissed, throwing the scroll at his feet, “while everything falls to pieces at our feet, and under our

RYKERI had never seen anything like it. In all my years, it was the most powerful thing I had ever seen. Elora cried out for the power of the moon goddess, just as I was told she would be able to, and the goddess wasted no time in answering. She sent lightning from the heavens, and the moment the lightning struck her, everything stopped.Time itself seemed to fold in on us, suspended between one heartbeat and the next.Elora was at the center of it all. She glowed with the lightning coursing through her skin. Her eyes beamed with a dangerous red glow. I stepped back in awe of her. She was terrifying, quick, unstoppable. When she moved, she moved with a force faster than light, faster than my thoughts. The rogues didn’t stand a chance. One by one, she tore through them, snapping their necks with her teeth. Heads rolled, she broke their limbs with ease, leaving them bleeding out on the ground.Torn apart by wind blades so sharp the air itself screamed. She wasn’t fighting alone,

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Kill them all

ELORA Both our gazes snapped in the direction of the cry. Across the fire, a figure crumpled to the ground. Everyone around the fire screamed and scattered into several parts as the figure became even clearer. He had blood pouring from the gash in his gut. Behind him, shadows poured from the darkness as rogues, snarling and howling like demons unleashed from the deepest, darkest parts of hell. In the blink of an eye, Ryker was gone. He rushed to the center, summoning his warriors behind him. “we’re under attack! Warriors, fall behind me now!” I watched him turn to Odessa.“Take the women and children into the woods, now! Hide them, make sure they would not be seen! They must not be found no matter what,” his voice cracked as he sniffed in. Was that a tear from the great Ryker Veylard? “Please. They all have to survive. Please.” She nodded and called on the women and children to gather around her. Ophelia offered to stay back to make sure she could heal the wounded soldiers w

ELORA Sun rise met the South in very high spirits. I had woken up to find myself in my tent. My right hand brushed my cheeks gently, feeling the heat on them. I couldn’t help the smile that plastered itself on my face. Had Ryker carried me all the way here? “He did, didn’t he?” Sierra whispered softly in my ear. She had also been stretched out by Ryker’s wolf after all. “It smells like joy out there.”I nodded, flipping the sheets away from my body and planting my feet on the ground. It was the festival of the South’s rebirth, almost two decades since they all lost everything and had to start afresh. Anya had said this festival meant a lot to them. They honored their fallen heroes, welcomed their spirits to speak to their children, their wives and husbands, and bid them farewell after. Odessa and Ophelia had told me all about it before. If a spirit stayed too long with the living, it could begin to harbor evil intentions. Regardless, there’s nothing I wouldn’t have given to be

Now that he no longer had responsibilities to the pack, and I had taken over his throne. I returned to my room and made sure to visit him when he was interested in dealing with real world affairs. Thank the goddess, he was finally caught in his smoking room, where he loved to polish his weapons and smoke. It was no surprise to me that the room smelled of steel and smoke.Still, I hated it.The heavy stone walls pressed in on me as I stood before my father, Kranos, and his beta, Varek. Varek Valewind still functioned as the grand commander of my father’s army. They were tied up in a conversation when I stormed in. My father looked up from his table with a raised brow. “Son.” “Father,” I turned to Varek. “General.” He gave me a courtesy bow, which I returned. “My dreams have worsened,” I said, voice rou
