I woke up the next morning with my heart still racing from the strange dreams that had filled my night.
The small, cold room in the omega quarters pressed in around me as I pulled on my oversized gray hoodie, the fabric swallowing my slender frame and hiding the faint marks of old bruises on my arms.
I glanced quickly at the cracked mirror, noting how my silver-gray eyes seemed a little brighter than usual.
Something inside me felt restless, like a caged wolf pacing back and forth but I pushed the feeling down and slipped out into the hallway.
Silence had always been my shield in the Silver Moon Pack and today it felt more important than ever with my birthday and the Awakening Ceremony drawing so close.
The school hallways buzzed with the usual morning energy of werewolves moving between classes, their scents mixing in the air like a living tapestry of power and hierarchy.
I kept my head down, mop and bucket in hand, heading toward the cleaning labs after the first bell.
Stronger wolves brushed past me without a second glance, their dominant auras brushing against my skin.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor, carrying the unmistakable rush of alpha pheromones that made the air thicker and harder to breathe.
Brad Lawson appeared first his sandy-brown hair was still damp from early training and those golden eyes locked onto me with hot-headed intensity. Scars from countless fights marked his arms, visible under his rolled-up sleeves.
I kept my eyes on the floor and started cleaning without a word.
Brad drew up close and kicked lightly at the edge of my bucket, sending a small splash of water across the clean section I had just finished.
"Clean that up faster, omega. I don't have all day to watch you drag your feet. Move it."
Derek Harlan stepped in right behind him, his tall, broad-shouldered frame commanding the space. Dark hair neatly trimmed, piercing blue eyes narrowing as they settled on me. His eyes flickered, the blue deepening with a hint of wolf power as he watched me bend down to wipe the spill.
"Something's off about her lately," Derek said, his voice low and authoritative. "She moves different these days. The Awakening Ceremony is tomorrow night now that they moved it up. I wonder if this silent one will even manage a basic shift or just stand there like always."
Isaiah Sterling leaned against the lab counter with his usual polished ease, black hair styled perfectly and sharp green eyes studying me like I was an interesting game.
"Or maybe she's just getting better at hiding whatever weakness she carries,"
Isaiah added smoothly, circling slowly around the table where I worked.
"Those baggy clothes hide a lot. But I bet if we push hard enough, she'll crack before the ceremony. What do you think, Derek? Should we make her run some drills with us later?"
I kept mopping in steady circles, resisting the urge building in my throat. The dream from last night had left small cracks in my control.
In the vision, starlight had poured through me and the dangerous voice had whispered louder, tempting me to speak and command.
Now, as Brad's aggressive scent washed over me, I felt that voice stir faintly, wanting to push back against their taunts.
My hands trembled slightly on the mop, but I bit the inside of my cheek and stayed completely silent, pushing the power down deep where it belonged. I would not let it out, not today.
Brad moved closer, his muscular build towering over me "Pathetic. All these years and she still can't say a single word. What kind of wolf hides like this? Come on, Isaiah, let's see if we can get a reaction out of her before practice."
Derek crouched down near me, his broad shoulders close enough that his body heat mixed with his dominant aura. The cedar and storm scent intensified, making my wolf stir restlessly inside.
"The whole pack will be watching tomorrow. My father expects strong showings from everyone in our age group. Even the silent ones who think they can just fade into the background."
His blue eyes met mine briefly when I glanced up, the color shifting with alpha power and my heart raced in response to his the overwhelming aura like a bond trying to snap into place too soon.
"You hear that, omega? No hiding this time."
The fractures in my control felt wider than before. I had felt the voice rise earlier that morning when another omega bumped into me in the quarters.
A faint commanding whisper had almost slipped out to make her move aside but I had clamped my mouth shut and turned away, resisting with every ounce of will.
Isaiah reached out and tugged lightly at the hood of my sweatshirt, his touch sending a spark across my skin.
"Come on. Show us a reaction at least, we know you can hear every word. Are you scared that if you open your mouth, something real might come out? Bet she'd beg us to stop if she could talk."
His green eyes gleamed with manipulative interest as he laughed and stepped back but not before giving the bucket another nudge with his polished shoe.
Lena Harper appeared in the doorway then, her petite frame slipping in quietly with a tray of supplies.
She set the tray down and started helping me organize the shelves without saying much at first, her actions showing the support she always gave.
"The coach sent me to grab you three for the strategy meeting on the field," Lena said softly, her voice respectful but firm enough to draw their attention. "He sounded impatient today. Something about new rival pack scouts watching the practice and he wants the team ready."
Brad grunted, shoving another empty bucket closer to me with his foot. "maybe tomorrow at the ceremony we'll finally see what weak thing you turn into. I might even make you run extra laps myself if you embarrass the pack."
Isaiah smirked one last time, his sharp green eyes narrowing.
"Sweet dreams tonight, silent girl. Whatever is going on in that head of yours, I hope it prepares you for what's coming at the ceremony."
He adjusted his expensive jacket and followed the others out, their heavy footsteps fading down the hall but their potent alpha essence clung to the air long after, keeping that unwanted attraction humming under my skin.
Lena waited until they were gone before touching my arm gently. She helped me finish the floor, working side by side in comfortable quiet at first. Then she whispered, "They seem extra rough today. Your hands are shaking just breathe through it."
I nodded slowly, continuing to wipe down the lab counters with careful strokes.
We moved to another area after the lab, cleaning the training hall where the football team practiced.
A group of beta students entered for extra drills while we worked, their weaker scents mixing in.
One of them bumped into my bucket on purpose, laughing loudly. "Watch it, silent omega. Don't get in our way or we'll make you clean the whole field next."
I resisted the dangerous voice that stirred again, clenching my jaw and turning to clean the new mess they left behind without a sound.
Later in the afternoon, while ghostwriting an essay in a hidden corner of the library for a beta who left payment on the table, I felt the dreams creeping in even while awake.
Glimmers of starlight crossed my vision and the whispers returned faintly.
I shook my head, resisting the pull with everything I had.
My silver-gray eyes reflected in a nearby window, glowing just a tiny bit before I looked away.
The ancestral bond linking me to the three Alphas made it harder, their commanding presence seeming to linger in my memory and cause fresh nervousness every time I remembered their closeness in the lab.
As evening fell, I returned to my quarters exhausted.
Lena stopped by with some extra food she had saved, sitting quietly with me for a while as I ate.
She talked about the changed ceremony plans and how nervous everyone felt but I listened in silence, nodding occasionally.
The night grew deeper and when I finally lay down on my thin bed, sleep came quickly but brought the dream back even stronger.
Shards of starlight flooded an endless sky, ancient whispers swirling around me louder than before.
The silver-white Lunar Shadow Wolf stood close now, its form massive and ethereal, eyes glowing with the same silver-gray as mine.
Power crackled through my veins in the dream, the dangerous voice rising in my throat, begging to be released in a roar that could change everything.
Shadows crept at the edges, warning of pain and breaking chains but the call grew impossible to ignore.
I woke up gasping in the dark room, sweat covering my skin.
When I looked at my hands in the faint moonlight, they trembled with unreleased energy.
The barriers holding my powers were cracking the voice pressing hard against my silence.
Outside, distant howls from pack wolves echoed under the moon, as if the whole territory sensed something shifting.
I paced the small room, trying to steady myself, but the power inside me kept building.
Then a sharp knock sounded at my door in the middle of the night and my blood ran cold as I wondered who had come for me now.
The word kept repeating itself in my mind long after the wounded guard collapsed into the Elder's chamber. Proof of who betrayed Keira’s parents. And that proof was buried beneath the pack house. It was proof that my father knew a lot more than he admitted. And I wasn't sure how we were going to take the information given to us. The room felt colder, and though the candle still burned along the walls, their flames leaned forward to Keira. It was as if the ancient fire recognized her long before the rest of us did. Her eyes were fixed on the guard, like she was ready to pull answers out of him with nothing but a stare. And though I wanted to watch her to make sure that the shock didn't break something raw in her, I found myself watching my father. Reading his reaction, trying to understand his body language. He braced himself with one hand on the polished table. Every line of his face carved from control was not calm.“What proof?” I asked before I could stop myself. “What is he talki
Keira:Princess Aurelia. The name struck the room like a blade thrown into silence. I didn't know or understand why, but it just did for a few seconds. No one moved. It seemed that even the silver flames on the candle seemed to freeze. Or maybe it was just me hallucinating. But I stared at the wounded border guard on the floor, his blood soaking the stone beneath. His eyes were fixed on me. As if I was the reason his enemies were tearing through the border.Maybe I was.But my name was Keira Brown.Silent omega. Floor cleaner. Ghostwriter. The girl who lowered her head and did not speak because words were too dangerous in her mouth. The person who never dared speak back or even look at someone who was a higher rank than she was.But the guard had looked at me with terror in his eyes and called me something else.Princess Aurelia. The name felt wrong and familiar at once. It was like I had heard it before, a distant memory as they're nowhere, nor did I know whether or not it was real.
Derek’s POVThe candles died the instant Keira spoke. One moment the elders’ chamber glowed with silver light, and the next it was swallowed by a darkness that felt deliberate. It was like some living spirit or essence had stepped into the room, but the elder kept his eyes on her for a second before he looked down at his feet, making my eyes widen in surprise. He never lowered his head. Not to betas. Not to elders. Not even to my father. But for her he did.The silent omega I had ignored for years. The girl I had ordered around without thinking. The girl who had just shifted into a massive silver-white Lunar Shadow Wolf and undone everything I believed about power. My heart raced against my ribcage and I froze as I looked at her, processing the moment before looking away as I knew that my wolf knew one thing.Mine.No, she is not. I snapped at him. Not after everything that happened.A small sound came from Keira, and Lena whispering her name, soft and frightened. I took a step forwa
CHAPTER 5Keira:The silence after my awakening felt like everyone held their breath. And in that moment, for the first time in my life, the wolves of Silver Moon Pack did not look through me as if I was dirt beneath their shoes. They looked at me like something that they could not name, something that I knew they feared.Alpha Harlan descended from the platform with the slow, deliberate steps of a man used to being obeyed. His eyes were fixed on me and I could tell that he was angry for he was not used to someone stealing the lights and authority from him, especially not me.“Keira Brown,” he said, the alpha command wrapping around my name like a leash. “You are going to come with me and we are going to the elders. Now.”For a moment the old reflex rose in. The small, obedient girl who had survived lowering her head by scrubbing the floors and swallowing insults, seemed to want me to shy back. But tonight, something else sat behind my ribs. And I knew that that I was not going to sta
Keira's POVThe power surged through me like a river breaking its dam as I stood in the center of the glowing rune circle and every eye in the packed hall turned toward me under the bright full moon. My slender body trembled inside the simple black dress and oversized hoodie I had thrown on in a hurry, my long dark hair falling around my shoulders like a dark veil. The ancient energy from Elder Selene's chants wrapped around me, mixing with the thick scents of dozens of werewolves and the heavy torch smoke that filled the stone hall. Alpha Harlan watched from the raised platform with his steel-blue eyes narrowed in sharp focus, while the trio stood close to the front, their powerful alpha presences pulling at something deep inside my bloodline."Keira Brown, let the moon guide your shift," Elder Selene called out again, her silver hair catching the light as she raised her hands higher. Her sharp gray eyes stayed fixed on me with a mix of caution and curiosity. "Show the pack your t
Keira's POVThe sharp knock on my door in the middle of the night pulled me out of my restless pacing and my heart jumped straight into my throat as I stood frozen in the small omega quarters. The thin blanket on my bed still lay twisted from where I had woken up gasping earlier and the faint moonlight filtering through the cracked window cast long shadows across the cold floor. My long dark hair hung loose and tangled down my back and I tugged my oversized hoodie tighter around my slender frame, trying to steady my breathing. Another knock came, heavier this time and I moved quietly to the door, eyes wide with caution. I cracked it open just enough to see who waited outside.Lena Harper stood there, shifting nervously from foot to foot, hair slightly messy as if she had hurried over. Her warm brown eyes met mine with a mix of worry and urgency and her gentle herbal scent wrapped around me like a small comfort in the heavy night air. "Keira, I'm sorry to wake you like this," she
Keira's POVI kept my head down, my long dark hair falling over my face as I pushed the mop across the cold tiles of the school hallway. The sharp smell of cleaning chemicals burned my nose, but I didn’t complain. Complaining meant drawing more attention, and attention in the Silver Moon Pack was
