Olivia

Nobody moved.

For once, Jeremy didn’t have a smart comment. Thomas wasn’t quietly watching everyone like he was trying to solve a problem before anyone else noticed it existed. Ethan looked ready to say something and kept stopping himself, while Logan stood closest to me with one hand still half raised from where he’d tried to catch me.

I barely noticed any of them.

Because I knew what I had heard.

Mate heard him.

It hadn’t come through my ears. Jeremy’s mouth hadn’t moved. The words had

OliviaThe four brothers reacted at exactly the same time.Logan grabbed the edge of the table hard enough that the wood cracked beneath his fingers. Ethan stumbled backward and clutched his head, while Jeremy’s hand tightened around mine until it almost hurt. Thomas didn’t move at all, but his eyes had gone completely black.“What happened?”Nobody answered me.“Guys?”Logan looked at his brothers. “You heard it?”Ethan nodded. “Every fucking word.”My stomach dropped.“Heard what?”Jeremy released my hand and looked at me. The humor that normally lived in his face was gone.“Adrian.”Cold slid down my spine.“He talked to you?”“All four of us,” Thomas said. That didn’t make sense. Adrian had gotten into my head because of whatever Fae craziness was happening to me, but the brothers communicated through their own mindlink.“How?”Seraphina stepped closer. “The bond.”I groaned. “Can we have one problem that isn’t somehow connected to this mate bond?”“No,” Jeremy said.I looked at h

Jeremy“My dad called him Uncle Adrian.”For several seconds, nobody said anything. Then everybody started talking at once.“When was the last time you saw him?”“How often was he at your house?”“Did your mother know him?”“Did he ever contact you after she died?”Olivia’s eyes bounced between Logan, Ethan, Dad, and Seraphina as questions came at her from every direction. Thomas wasn’t joining in, but I saw him watching her the same way I was.She looked overwhelmed.“Everybody stop.”The room went quiet.Logan frowned at me. “What?”“Look at her.”That did it.Olivia stood in the middle of us with her arms wrapped around herself. Her face was pale, and she looked like she was trying to search twenty years of memories while six people demanded answers she didn’t have.“We’re interrogating her,” I said.Dad sighed. “Jeremy—”“She found out werewolves exist today. Then she found out she’s our mate, apparently Fae royalty, and that we’re technically quadruplets even though two of us spe

Logan“They have Cassian.”Olivia tried to run toward the woods.I caught her around the waist before she made it two steps, and she immediately started fighting me. Not playfully. Not the annoyed shove she’d given me earlier when I’d gotten too protective. She was genuinely trying to get away.“Let me go!”“Not happening.”“They have him!”“I heard you.”“Then why are we standing here?”“Because that’s exactly what they want.”She stopped struggling.I turned her in my arms. “Think about it, Liv. Whoever got inside your head didn’t tell you Cassian was dead. They told you they have him.”Her face changed.Seraphina nodded. “Logan is right. Cassian is bait.”Olivia looked toward the trees. “Then we can’t leave him.”“We won’t,” I promised.Brutus growled inside me.Find guardian. Kill enemy.Simple plan.Unfortunately, I wasn’t letting my wolf handle strategy.Dad was already issuing orders to the warriors. “Lock down the estate. Nobody crosses the borders without my permission. I wan

Olivia“Cassian is dying.”Of everything Seraphina had told me, those three words were the ones that hit hardest.I didn’t understand why. I didn’t know Cassian. Until yesterday, I hadn’t even known his name. He was simply the giant silver wolf who kept appearing outside the Hawthorn house and speaking inside my head. Yet the thought of him dying caused an ache so sharp in my chest that I pressed my hand against it.“No.”Seraphina’s expression softened. “Olivia—”“No. How do you know he’s dying?”“Because maintaining your mother’s spell all these years has required an enormous amount of power. Cassian has been giving you his.”“For years?”“Since Elara died.”I stared toward the woods. My mother died when I was seventeen. For years, while I was worrying about bills, working whatever jobs I could find, and trying to keep my father functioning, someone I didn’t even know existed had apparently been quietly protecting me.“Why?”Seraphina hesitated.“Because he loved your mother.”Somet

Ethan“I think they’re quadruplets.”For the first time in my life, I actually wondered if I’d heard someone wrong.I looked at Logan. He was staring at Seraphina with the same expression I probably had. Then I looked at Jeremy and Thomas. Same dark hair. Same eyes. Same height. Same damn face, for the most part. People had joked our entire lives that the four of us looked more like quadruplets than two sets of twins, but there was one obvious problem with that theory.Jeremy and Thomas were a year younger than us.“That’s impossible,” Logan finally said.“Thank you,” Jeremy added. “I wasn’t held hostage in Mom’s uterus for an extra year.”Olivia covered her mouth.Thomas groaned. “Why would you say it like that?”“Because apparently nobody else was going to address the obvious biological problem.”Despite everything, Olivia laughed.Mom didn’t.Dad didn’t either. And that was when my stomach dropped.I looked at them. “Why aren’t you laughing?”Mom’s eyes filled with something I coul

Logan“The people who murdered your mother’s family know you’re alive.”Seraphina’s words hadn’t finished echoing in my head before Brutus surged forward so violently my claws punched through the tips of my fingers.Kill them. For once, I wasn’t telling him to calm down.Olivia stood beside me staring at the woman who claimed to be her aunt, all the color gone from her face. Five minutes ago, she’d been joking that she was only a nanny. Now she’d been told she was descended from a Fae Queen and that the people responsible for slaughtering her mother’s family were coming for her.“No,” Olivia finally said.Seraphina frowned. “No?”“No, you don’t get to drop something like that on me and stop talking.” Olivia folded her arms, although I noticed her hands were trembling. “Who killed them? Why? And why did my mother spend my entire life pretending none of this existed?”“That conversation should happen somewhere protected,” Dad said.Seraphina looked toward him. “Your territory isn’t as p

Olivia“I still don’t understand why you have to live in that house,” my father said quietly. We sat in our tiny living room, the old television humming softly in the background. Dad was in his recliner while I sat curled up on the couch across from him, explaining everything about my new job.For

OliviaI couldn’t decide whether I wanted to hug Mrs. Hawthorne for giving me the opportunity I desperately needed… or slap her for making me sound like some girl who would throw herself at her sons the second I moved in.In the end, I swallowed my irritation. This job mattered more than my pride r

Olivia“I’m sorry about showing up like this,” I said, wringing rainwater from the edge of the towel in my lap. “My car broke down, and I really didn’t want to miss this interview. Unfortunately, the weather decided not to cooperate either.”Mrs. Hawthorne studied me carefully before giving a small

OliviaI tightened my grip on the steering wheel and turned the ignition again. The engine sputtered violently before dying with a pathetic cough.“No. Absolutely not today,” I groaned, smacking the dashboard. “You cannot do this to me right now.”The ancient Honda had been barely surviving for mon
