Chapter 2

Author: Mister Rhapsody
Fearing I might cause trouble for Ivy again, Julian forcibly dragged me home.

Julian’s parents looked utterly displeased. They had already read through the divorce papers, then tossed them straight into the trash.

“Clara, what do you think you’re doing? We haven’t mistreated you, have we? If you want a divorce over a stupid cat, so be it, but on top of that, you want Julian to leave with nothing?

“Did we spoil you so much that you think we’re pushovers?”

My parents’ faces were red from being ashamed of me. “You’ve gone too far. We can’t support such unreasonable actions.”

I offered no further explanation and repeated myself. “If you refuse, we’ll settle this in court.”

The unfaithful party deserved to walk away with nothing.

Julian’s voice trembled with panic.

“Clara, are you divorcing me just for the assets? You know the passwords to all my cards. They’re all free for you to spend. Isn’t that enough?”

Not all of them.

Or rather, I used to. Julian had since acquired several new cards, secretly spending who knows how much on Ivy behind my back.

Just as I was about to point this out, someone knocked on the door.

Ivy greeted us sweetly. “Everyone, sorry to disturb you so late.

“Earlier downstairs, Mr. Shane and Ms. Hill had a misunderstanding because of me. I felt bad about it and came to check.

“Truthfully, Ms. Hill didn’t cause me any trouble. She was taking out her frustration on the cat. I couldn’t stand by and do nothing, so I tried to intervene. It was my fault. It was only right that Ms. Hill hit and scolded me.”

Julian’s parents’ faces darkened. “Clara, you would actually abuse cats and assault people?”

My parents lamented my lack of decorum. “Clara, how did you end up like this?”

None of them noticed the crucial issue.

“Mr. Shane?

“Ivy, so you know my husband after all. It must have been tough holding back all those times we passed without a word, huh?”

Like a deer caught in headlights, Ivy immediately lowered her head in panic. She stole a glance at Julian. Her expression was innocent and pleading, as if she was begging for mercy.

Her right hand, adorned with a sparkling diamond ring, drifted toward her rounded belly.

A flicker of alarm and tenderness passed through Julian’s eyes before he composed himself. “I do know Ivy. She’s a junior employee at my company. We’ve crossed paths a few times.

“I didn’t think she was important enough to mention, and I didn’t want you to overthink things. So I just treated her like a neighbor I barely knew. Clara, be good. Don’t jump to conclusions.”

I could not help but chuckle.

If he had nothing to hide, why was he afraid I would overthink things?

Also, how could an entry-level employee afford a spacious apartment in a high-end downtown neighborhood?

When I remained silent, Julian’s father rose angrily. “Clara Hill, if you have evidence, I won’t say another word about the divorce and property division! But if you’re trying to strip Julian of everything based on mere speculation, I’m giving you a warning. You’re delusional!”

Just as I was about to respond, Ivy blinked and interjected, “Divorce and leave him with nothing? Ms. Hill, isn’t that a bit too much?

“Even though you’ve never visited the company, every employee knows how doting Mr. Shane is to his wife. Everyone knows how deeply he loves you! Ms. Hill, could you have found another man? Are you deliberately using me as a pawn to seize Mr. Shane’s assets?”

I raised my hand and slapped her across the face.

“Watch your mouth.

“Julian may indulge you, but I certainly won’t.”

It did not take long after Ivy’s visit for Julian to show up again. His condition did not look much better than Ivy’s. In just half a month, he seemed to have lost over ten pounds. His sunken eyes gave him the appearance of someone on his deathbed.Only his eyes still held a glimmer of light, fixed on me with a dazed look.“Clara, did Ivy come looking for you? She didn’t go crazy and cause trouble for you, did she?”I shook my head.“She doesn’t have the power to trouble me. Is there anything else you need?”I raised my hand to close the door, lacking even the patience for another word with him.Julian showed no anger. His face was frozen in a stiff smile. “Yes, I have so much I want to tell you. I’ve been holding it in for half a month!“Since Ivy came, you must have seen her situation. Actually, she wasn’t wrong. I bribed the doctor to terminate her pregnancy.“To me, she was nothing but a thrill-seeking toy. And she dared to dream of bearing my child and marrying me? Dream

I had still left one question unanswered.Julian had also asked me why I could not give him another chance. My parents could not understand it either. Forgiving Julian was clearly the best choice for me, so why did I so stubbornly refuse?Because I once loved him too deeply! The deeper the love, the deeper the hurt. The pain had spread to every cell in my body. Every time I saw him, the grief broke me.I had no other choice.I had to let go.I deliberately avoided any contact with Julian and blocked out all news about him.Half a month later, I finally heard about his recent situation from my parents.Julian neglected his company affairs. He was preoccupied with other matters, leading to his company becoming insolvent and being acquired by others for a pittance.Ivy was not sent abroad as planned. She had been recuperating in the hospital, and Julian frequently visited her.My parents could not resist gossiping.“Thank goodness you were ruthless enough not to forgive him. W

Julian’s parents could barely walk steadily. They helplessly supported each other as they left.Deep disappointment welled up in their eyes once more, but their dismayed gazes instead fell upon Julian.Though my parents also wanted me to reconcile with Julian, they were primarily concerned for my well-being and cared little about his fate.Seeing my resolve, they gave up trying to persuade me and left. The vast living room was left empty except for Julian, who had been abandoned by everyone.I glared at him impatiently. “Why are you still here? Do you want to wait for the police to show up?”Julian seemed to summon every ounce of courage before lifting his bloodshot eyes to meet mine.He appeared calmer than before. He knelt on the floor and inched toward me on his knees. “Clara, how many people in my position have never made mistakes?“Yes, I cheated with Ivy. But you... you were injured back then. You couldn’t accompany me on trips or participate in extreme activities. What w

Overnight, Julian’s reputation was utterly ruined. His company was already on a downward spiral. With the renewed public backlash, it was facing bankruptcy. He should have cut his losses, sold the company for cheap, and saved enough to make a comeback later. But he did not have the resolve. Instead, he pinned his hopes for redemption on me.He summoned both our parents once more to my home to plead with me.I dismissed them without mercy. “Get out.“Julian, we’re divorced. This house is solely in my name now. You have no right to enter without my permission!”Julian knelt before me with reddened eyes. “Clara, I know I was wrong. I swear I’ll never betray you again.“Please give me another chance?“I gave you everything you ever wanted. I fulfilled every demand you made. How could you be so heartless as to leave me no way out?”I could not help but laugh. “Every demand I made?“When I asked you to celebrate my birthday, you had lied about working overtime. Those photos and videos were enough to shatter every lie Julian had ever told! The year after my accident, Ivy joined Julian’s company and began their affair.I did not have photographic or video evidence from that time, but I had some spending records and hotel check-in logs. It was ample proof that they had visited dozens of places together. They had gone bungee jumping, skydiving, surfing, and savored every thrill, including the excitement of their illicit affair.Gradually, merely fooling around outside was not enough for them. Their intimate moments of canoodling began appearing within the company, in different public areas that happened to be empty at the time.I had secretly installed cameras and captured several gigabytes of evidence.Julian trembled. His head was down. He did not dare to watch the footage of his passionate, frenzied encounters with Ivy.His earlier roars had echoed in the room, making his current silence all the more pathetic. My gaze remained impassi

“Julian, do you admit to the fact of your infidelity?”The judge’s question instantly plunged the courtroom into an uproar.“What’s going on? Isn’t Clara the one who cheated? How did it become Julian?”“Your Honor, you must be mistaken! The internet is clearly buzzing with rumors that Clara was the one who cheated. She schemed against her own husband for her lover! Quickly rule that she should be stripped of all assets!”The judge swiftly restored order. His authoritative voice continued. “Clara Hill has submitted evidence proving the online rumors about her are fabricated slander. There is no substantive proof of marital infidelity on her part.”Julian rose to his feet in a fit of rage. “If her evidence doesn’t prove she cheated, then how does mine suddenly make it valid?“Clara adopted a neighbor’s abandoned cat. Just because that cat bonded more with me, she went mad demanding a divorce. Your Honor, are you going to declare me at fault based on a cat’s behavior?”To pressure
