“Divorce?

“Clara Hill, are you telling me our seven-year relationship is over just like that? Over a darn cat?”

Julian Shane did not even glance at it. He grabbed the divorce papers and flung them at the Ragdoll cat rubbing against him.

“If you won’t sign, we’ll take this to court.”

After saying this calmly, I turned and walked back to my room.

Both our sets of parents looked utterly bewildered.

They could not understand how a couple who had been as affectionate as newlyweds just last month could have reached the point of divorce.

Julian lowered his head to hide the panic in his eyes. His fists clenched so tightly they trembled.

His parents rushed over to stop me. “Clara, you can’t suspect Julian of cheating just because of a cat! Some cats are naturally more affectionate toward men. What does that prove?

“We’ve all seen how good Julian is to you. When you had that high fever from the flu, he stayed by your hospital bedside for 48 hours straight. When you fell off that mountain, he sold off shares and spent a fortune to get you the best medical team.

“Does a cat really outweigh all that in your heart?”

My parents pleaded with me earnestly too.

“If you leave Julian, where will you find a husband this good?

“You’re physically impaired and unable to bear children. It’s already a blessing that Julian stayed with you in spite of that. Don’t you realize how fortunate you are?”

Julian suddenly clasped my hand. His red eyes filled with a dazed look. He looked like he was utterly devoted to loving me.

“Honey, we dated for two years and have been married for five. Even death will not do us part! How could you misunderstand me over a cat?

“Are you unhappy about being neglected because I’ve been busy dealing with my company’s troubles lately?

“I swear, no matter how busy I get from now on, I’ll leave work on time and come home to be with you...”

In front of a room full of people, he expressed his devotion to the utmost.

My in-laws were well-educated and kind. They had always treated me with nothing but kindness.

My parents were more calculating, believing that being with Julian meant I would have a good life.

But the apathy and resolve in my eyes did not waver. I pushed Julian’s hand away coldly. “I’ll only say this once again. If you don’t sign this tonight, we’re taking this to court.

“This is the last shred of dignity I’m giving you.”

Julian’s eyes flashed crimson. “Clara, how can you be so heartless?”

“That’s simple. Because I don’t care about you anymore.”

With that, I was not bothered to argue further. I opened the door and walked straight out.

The disappointed sighs of both sets of parents echoed behind me, but I did not pause. I quickened my pace.

The Ragdoll cat slipped out as well.

As I sat blankly on a park bench in the neighborhood, I saw the Ragdoll cat chasing after its former owner, who was heading downstairs to throw out the trash.

Ivy Summers kicked its head in disgust, but the Ragdoll cat refused to leave.

I could not bear to watch and stepped in to stop it, but the Ragdoll arched its back, hissing and baring its teeth at me.

Ivy laughed.

“Ms. Hill, sometimes people are just like cats.

“If they don’t like you, they just don’t like you. You can’t force them to get along.”

I saw the challenge and haughtiness in Ivy’s eyes, then glanced at her noticeably rounded belly. I instantly understood what she meant.

“You’re right.

“Neither clingy cats nor clingy people are worth keeping.”

Julian arrived just then, his face tense and flustered.

But he had not come to take my side.

“Clara, can you act normal? I told you the cat’s clinginess was just a misunderstanding. It has nothing to do with the neighbors! You can make a scene at home, but how could you be crazy enough to harass others? Can’t you see she’s pregnant?”

Julian had no idea what was happening.

He had simply seen me interacting with Ivy. Without seeking clarity he had rushed in to defend her while labeling me a jealous troublemaker.

I let out a bitter laugh, realizing that even if Julian still loved me, that love paled to his feelings for Ivy.

It did not take long after Ivy’s visit for Julian to show up again. His condition did not look much better than Ivy’s. In just half a month, he seemed to have lost over ten pounds. His sunken eyes gave him the appearance of someone on his deathbed.Only his eyes still held a glimmer of light, fixed on me with a dazed look.“Clara, did Ivy come looking for you? She didn’t go crazy and cause trouble for you, did she?”I shook my head.“She doesn’t have the power to trouble me. Is there anything else you need?”I raised my hand to close the door, lacking even the patience for another word with him.Julian showed no anger. His face was frozen in a stiff smile. “Yes, I have so much I want to tell you. I’ve been holding it in for half a month!“Since Ivy came, you must have seen her situation. Actually, she wasn’t wrong. I bribed the doctor to terminate her pregnancy.“To me, she was nothing but a thrill-seeking toy. And she dared to dream of bearing my child and marrying me? Dream

Every time I saw him, the grief broke me.I had no other choice.I had to let go.I deliberately avoided any contact with Julian and blocked out all news about him.Half a month later, I finally heard about his recent situation from my parents.Julian neglected his company affairs. He was preoccupied with other matters, leading to his company becoming insolvent and being acquired by others for a pittance.Ivy was not sent abroad as planned. Do you want to wait for the police to show up?”Julian seemed to summon every ounce of courage before lifting his bloodshot eyes to meet mine.He appeared calmer than before. He knelt on the floor and inched toward me on his knees. “Clara, how many people in my position have never made mistakes?“Yes, I cheated with Ivy. But you... you were injured back then. Overnight, Julian’s reputation was utterly ruined. His company was already on a downward spiral. With the renewed public backlash, it was facing bankruptcy. He should have cut his losses, sold the company for cheap, and saved enough to make a comeback later. But he did not have the resolve. Instead, he pinned his hopes for redemption on me.He summoned both our parents once more to my home to plead with me.I dismissed them without mercy. “Get out.“Julian, we’re divorced. This house is solely in my name now. You have no right to enter without my permission!”Julian knelt before me with reddened eyes. “Clara, I know I was wrong. I swear I’ll never betray you again.“Please give me another chance?“I gave you everything you ever wanted. I fulfilled every demand you made. Those photos and videos were enough to shatter every lie Julian had ever told! The year after my accident, Ivy joined Julian’s company and began their affair.I did not have photographic or video evidence from that time, but I had some spending records and hotel check-in logs. It was ample proof that they had visited dozens of places together. They had gone bungee jumping, skydiving, surfing, and savored every thrill, including the excitement of their illicit affair.Gradually, merely fooling around outside was not enough for them. Their intimate moments of canoodling began appearing within the company, in different public areas that happened to be empty at the time.I had secretly installed cameras and captured several gigabytes of evidence.Julian trembled. His head was down. He did not dare to watch the footage of his passionate, frenzied encounters with Ivy.His earlier roars had echoed in the room, making his current silence all the more pathetic. My gaze remained impassi

“Julian, do you admit to the fact of your infidelity?”The judge’s question instantly plunged the courtroom into an uproar.“What’s going on? Isn’t Clara the one who cheated? How did it become Julian?”“Your Honor, you must be mistaken! The internet is clearly buzzing with rumors that Clara was the one who cheated. She schemed against her own husband for her lover! Quickly rule that she should be stripped of all assets!”The judge swiftly restored order. His authoritative voice continued. “Clara Hill has submitted evidence proving the online rumors about her are fabricated slander. There is no substantive proof of marital infidelity on her part.”Julian rose to his feet in a fit of rage. “If her evidence doesn’t prove she cheated, then how does mine suddenly make it valid?“Clara adopted a neighbor’s abandoned cat. Just because that cat bonded more with me, she went mad demanding a divorce. Your Honor, are you going to declare me at fault based on a cat’s behavior?”To pressure
